Default tC or SRT-4?

I am trying to decide between the 2 right now. I want the S/C version of the tC and have been told it should run me about $2500 by the delaership with the base $16550 that's about $19050.

I found a leftover 2004 SRT-4 at a dealer in my home town with a sunroof and side air bags for $19000.

Also just so I don't continue to get "just a neon" and "they're ugly" and "girls car" posts.........I like the exterior of both cars the same AND the interiors of both cars the same. I wouldn't even be considering the SRT-4 if I thought it was ugly. I was looking for comments about daily driveability for both cars but since this is a tC forums mostly the tC.

Anyone that wants to give me their opinion please feel free. Thanks

If all you want is speed, get the SRT4...The SRT4 has much more speed potential through "practical" upgrades. All other needs will be fulfilled with the tC... The supercharged tC isn't even out yet...nor does anyone know how much it will cost...

yes the SRT is faster and has more power. but no matter what, when people ask what you drive, you still have to say NEON, hate when they say "oh, i drive a SRT4" its a NEON!!!!!

i like the TC because its more practical for all around car.

The SRT4 is crazy fast but that engine won't last as long as the tC's. Toyota reliability baby! You could also buy a turbo kit for the tC that would put it on par with the SRT4 but you wouldn't have a warranty.

With the number of issues with ALL of the chrysler products, definitely including the NEON, get the tC!!!! Chrysler can't seem to build a tranny that will hold up to any kind of punishment.. or much normal driving for that matter. And the rest of the car begins falling apart from day one. Plus....... ITS A NEON!!!!! Definitely not a quality product... sure I can strap a turbo to a GEO if you want and it will go fast... but it wont last very long...

Also, check out the insurance rates for the SRT4. I know when they were first released to the public, there were many many accidents because a lot of teens were getting them and they didnt know how to handle the power and they thought that they were invincible.

I thought I read somewhere that the supercharger would be a $4000+ option for the tC? That's if you're talking about the optional Scion s/c that won't void your new car warantee....

Many racers will tell you in order to win a race you have to finish it. Realiability is key.
I had a 85 rx-7. that car was near bullitproof! I drove it often w/o coolant with no probs.
I have yet to see a tranny of dodge last 100K on normal use much less the punishment the srt-4 would dishout. If you do buy the neon(please don't) get the extended bumper to bumper warranty I hear it's a good product.

I just finished the paperwork on my tc today and while i was there some guy told me it would be out in a month, and it's going to go for a little over 2K. I don't know how true it is but thats what he said. And about the neon, domestic sucks. And i heard that the SRT4 has power windows in the front and rollers in the back. There both 2.4 liter motors.

Well...I'm not trying to argue here but I have some counterpoints to some of your arguments.

1. I don't see the tC as more praticle all around. It has two less doors, less cargo space. The one I found also has side airbags at the same $19000 price. How is that "less" practicle?

2. I test drove both cars (tC without S/C of course) and found both to handle very well. It's not like I am planning on racing or anything stupid like that.

3. Last but not least bringing up the fact that it is a "neon" doesn't mean anything. Say that Chrysler makes and inferior product as far as reliability goes and I won't argue but just saying it's a "neon" means nothing. I am not embarassed to drive a "neon". My only concern with it is the reliability problems of the past, however it does come with a 70000 mile warrenty to ease most of that concern.

I have a 1996 intrepid with 141000 miles on it and the original tranny. Although I don't care for the car it seems to have a good powertrain.

Well, I'm 28 with no tickets or accidents under my belt and I get my auto insurance through USAA (millitary) so it is cheap. However you bring up a good point and I will call the insurance company up and try to get a price quote.

Thanks for the tip.

One thing about the SRT-4 I don't like is that it does not have Cruise control. Can you buy aftermarket cruise control set ups?

My parents are Dodge fiends...and if I had a choice, it'd be the SRT-4 over the tC... That's just my opinion. I've driven the SRT-4 at the track and it sure is fun... It may be a Neon (although it doesn't say Neon ANYWHERE), it'll still whoop ___.

personaly i would go with the srt. the only thing it shares with a neon is the frame. the engine and tranny are both very stong, the srt has a LSD, and IMHO more fun to drive.

Yes, you can buy the cruise through the dealer.
