just want my box to go faster
thats all... haven't posted in what seems like years..
wondering how many of us are still here from the early days of SL.
Just want my lil box to go faster.... dont want to go turbo / supercharger..
actually i do, i just can't afford the kits right now...
i know aside from stripping the box down, and removing all the extra weight, there isn't anything else i can do, based on the mods i have.. but hey, who needs seats and door panels anyway?

the combo of the three is best tickets..otherwise your getting only partial of what a good header can provide.....you would not have noticed as much without the other two
Oh very interesting. Ok OP, i guess you need all three if you want to see the benefits of the headers. which IMO are quite nice!
You could do many things to get your car to go faster NA.
Lighter weight brakes...you can save up to 25/50lbs...thats better than getting pulleys IMHO. Even though its way more expensive lol
Super light rims helps too.
You can keep your stock pistons and get them ceramic coated. That works by using the "heat" from the explosion as well as the pressure change. Increase thermal efficiency by 30%...meaning you can run higher compression on 87 octane just fine.
You can PnP your own heads. Or get a used engine for like 300 bucks excluding the tranny.
You can get prius pistons/ceramic coat them/regrind cams, get an angled valve job (go on youtube and look up angle valve job), get a tune for 93 octane, do the whole I/H/E at 2" to 2 1/4". You can also ceramic coat your headers/heat wrap them, and well as the mid pipe and some section of the cat back.
The more heat you can retain in an exhaust system the higher the velocity, therefore the more aggressive you can run your intake cams.
Coating your exhaust halfway would also be a supporting mod for higher compression (more heat), PnP, angled valve job, and if you have the money a new intake manifold.
The beauty of NA, is that you can do everything step by step as long as you adjust AFR's. Not like a turbo where you need to dumb a whole wad of cash to see an increase.
You can raise your redline and bypass the fuel cut off. As long as you are lower than 500rpm from valve float! With proper head work, pistons etc, a higher redline will benefit you alot more than you would think.
Other than that, thats all you can really do NA without removing VVTI and getting high lobe cams etc, and sacrificing drive-ability.
But I would seriously look into brakes...rims...pulleys...ceramic coating headers/heat wrap and coating your mid pipe as well.
Then I would go the intake manifold route, get a velocity stack styled intake, PnP if u have the ***** to do it yourself ( 1 or 2 mm will do the trick...), 93 octane tune and voila.
Then you can worry about the pistons, angled valve job, yadda yadda
Hope that helps! O and get your valves checked...maybe they need some love...aka re-adjust
In good regards,
Regis

i/ceramic h/e, pulley, irridum plugs are a go.. I'll probly be porting and polishing this weekend or next.
throttle body spacers dont really provide gains on a direct injected engine.. made a big gain on my carborated harley though..
One question about tune... since i am N/A, is there any tuning that can even be done? if so what would i need? I dont have any fuel management any longer (got rid of the s-afc2 since i decided not to go turbo.) can i just go to dyno, and tell them to take a few runs, and put a tune on it? if so, i'll pnp, and throw in some new plugs and go to a dyno shop..
thanks for all the suggestions!

Awesome on the Pnp!
The only thing I would think could work for cheap is e-manage blue or something. Otherwise I would go with a Haltech or megasquirt or something.
I know it costs money but NA = less stress on you as well haha
Someone on clubxb reported hitting like 120whp with a built head etc... so the potential is there!
Thats the same as getting a blitz SC!
good luck with everything!

And yes there is much than could be done!
Go to the dyno with less than a gallon of 87. Then see how the car runs on 87. They should know how much timing advance is needed for 93, and they can lean out the fuel mixture a bit more as well since it is so good against detonation.
There's more stuff to do, but its more mechanical than anything, more like supporting the tune haha.
Good luck
