Does anyone have pics of their painted calipers/drums on a TCM? I want to do this soon and cannot decide which color. I am down to Blue, Red, Yellow, and Silver.
Thanks in advance.

View Full Version : Pics of painted calipers on TCM? Max 03-11-2005, 01:45 PM Does anyone have pics of their painted calipers/drums on a TCM? I want to do this soon and cannot decide which color. I am down to Blue, Red, Yellow, and Silver. Thanks in advance. Fujiz_xb 03-11-2005, 01:57 PM mee too..same problem i was thinking blue, red, pink, or white. Mooneyzs 03-11-2005, 01:57 PM I say go for Red Lonely_Raven 03-11-2005, 02:16 PM Red is traditional and will pretty much suit any car where you can see the calipers. I'm considering yellow to match my GoldLine springs and future Koni Yellows...but I'm not painting my calipers till I do a disc brake conversion for the rear. Max 03-11-2005, 04:04 PM I've pretty well narrowed it down to blue, red, and yellow, with blue leading. Anyone got pics? Fujiz_xb 03-11-2005, 04:11 PM http://scionlife.com/features/2005003/003.jpg ^^ i might do that to match my tanabe springs Mooneyzs 03-11-2005, 04:26 PM Max if you do Blue I think it would look good if you painted it a brighter blue rather than a dark one. rolstc 03-11-2005, 04:29 PM i want paint mine white ... but im scurred !!! :nails: :nails: chicago_guy 03-11-2005, 04:38 PM im thinking going gold on my SW tc. with some gold volks TheIcon 03-11-2005, 05:28 PM I still want to do this but I know I will have to clean my wheels liek twice a week to keep them clean cause dirt and grease and everything else will be extra noticeable. Max 03-11-2005, 05:39 PM I am pretty well decided on blue, as long as I can fine the right shade. I think it will hide dirt well enough and will still stand out. I will do this within the next couple weeks. pharynx 03-11-2005, 10:17 PM What kind of paint could be used? Also, is it a direct application of this paint? Or does some sort of primer have to be applied first? Max 03-11-2005, 10:23 PM I was thinking about trying this, gonna look some more. http://www.tirerack.com/brakes/g2/caliper_paint.jsp TheScionicMan 03-11-2005, 11:12 PM The G2 kit is good, I used the Duplicolor kit, it's good too. Uses a ceramic additive to withstand heat. Got it at Walmart for about $15. I did yellow to match my springs. Mine don't seem to get much brake dust, but then, I don't brake much and my wheels don't build up hardly any dust with the openness to them. Here's a TCM in Red: http://www.speakeasy.org/~mdhewitt/SCS/images/P1163544.jpg Mine in yellow: http://www.speakeasy.org/~mdhewitt/SCS/images/P1163549.jpg pharynx 03-11-2005, 11:49 PM If i got the Duplicolor kit, what would be the suggested time which i don't use the vehicle? TheScionicMan 03-12-2005, 12:00 AM I painted mine at night and let it sit in the garage over night before I put the wheels back on. Probably a little longer than needed but wanted to be sure. It pretty much dried in a couple hours... pharynx 03-12-2005, 12:01 AM Thanks, going to walmart to pick up some red.. pharynx 03-12-2005, 12:02 AM But also, how did you do all 4 wheels at once? Did you use 2 jacks? Or do you have some sort of special garage :P Huskersnow 03-12-2005, 12:31 AM He probably used jack stands which his the smart way to do it. I used the caliper paint from Autozone. The caliper paint is not only hi-temp paint it is also chemical resistant. Brake cleaner is brutal to painted surfaces. Before you paint make sure you calipers are very, very clean and use more than one coat but allow adequate drying time between applications. Take your time and make sure everything is clean. pharynx 03-12-2005, 02:33 AM Will using 2 jacks on one side be a safety issue? pkoule 03-12-2005, 02:52 AM Just paint them. If you don't like then color, paint over it! pharynx 03-12-2005, 04:12 AM I just finished one caliper, and i will soon have how i did in as a tutorial. On another note: Can you paint the rear drums with the same paint used for calipers? aireck 03-12-2005, 04:29 AM pics when done andrew.... i want to see if i should go with red or yellow ..or maybe chrome..lol!! pharynx 03-12-2005, 04:32 AM Yeah, taking about a 5 minute break, give my back one atleast, then ill be doing the other side. After that, if i get an answer, ill do the drums. TheScionicMan 03-12-2005, 05:11 AM Yes it will work on the drums as well. By their calculations, there's enough to do 4 calipers or two drums but I did several coats on my calipers and I think there's enough in the can to do the drums. I just think it would be to much in yellow. It goes against my stealth approach... Yeah breaks are a must. I did a coat on each side and then the first side was ready for another, etc. I really should do another coat cuz there's a few tiny thin spots but I've got other projects working... pharynx 03-12-2005, 05:16 AM Yeah im trying to decide whether or not to do the drums. I saw the first tcm with red drums, but i cant really feel it. TheScionicMan 03-12-2005, 05:21 AM The first TCM, EVILDAVE (This Month's featured ride) his a that color shifting purple, not as pink as they look in that pic. The second TCM with the red ones works good with the graphics,IMO, but was the view I needed to talk me out of doing mine. pharynx 03-12-2005, 08:07 AM just finished the drums -_- time for bed. Review / tutorial in the morning  |
