shadowler 02-19-2011, 10:45 AM does the logo in the front windshield block vision? you should remove it anyways :p
errol 02-19-2011, 10:56 AM It doesnt really bother me, I can take it out but not yet cuz I'm waiting for the new team sticker to be finish.
Skeeeett 02-19-2011, 01:48 PM you sould reallly get that plug for the antenna hole color matched to your car...it would bother the ____ outta me seeing a black dot for no reason on my car lol. looks good though besides that little thing that would bother me lol
MightyP 02-19-2011, 02:59 PM Looks good. Love the dual reverse lights. :) I'm actually thinking about going back to regular bulbs. With the tinted windows, the LEDs just aren't bright enough for me to see at night.
XerotC 02-19-2011, 08:12 PM It doesnt really bother me, I can take it out but not yet cuz I'm waiting for the new team sticker to be finish.
i really like that there, even though it isnt practical for me. but is it legal for where you live?

Thanks & yeah I know, but its okay.

Thanks, one of my par has LED reverse lights on his tC1 looks badash it also blinks like yours.

Yes it is, as long as you can see, then your good haha.
highvoltage1 02-19-2011, 09:47 PM Like the antenna delete.
YELOSUB 02-19-2011, 10:35 PM Lookin good...

They look so much better without the truck gap
errol 02-26-2011, 02:04 PM Thanks and yup no more of that 4x4 status lol
MightyP 02-26-2011, 06:43 PM Looks good, man. But ugh on the "4x4" thing. :P
YELOSUB 02-26-2011, 09:32 PM That's a decent drop...
errol 02-26-2011, 10:27 PM @MightyP: Thanks lol yeah I know it was killing me. :p
@Yelosub: Thanks but dont worry about it, it will go lower on my next day off xD
Bloodborn 03-01-2011, 06:24 PM That thing is looking great. Where did you get the cap for the Antenna? I plan on fixing that damned single reverse light as well, that is the most annoying thing on the car.
errol 03-01-2011, 09:45 PM That thing is looking great. Where did you get the cap for the Antenna? I plan on fixing that damned single reverse light as well, that is the most annoying thing on the car.
Thanks, the plug on my antenna is just a regular nylon plug that you get at home depot, on the reverse light i say go for it & yeah its true you do get comments on why the other side is a dummy or how come you got a tailight out. :gun:
Griever 03-02-2011, 02:43 PM Looks good bro! When did they change the license plates on Guam? I still got mine on my dash just to represent lol
FlintMica2005 03-02-2011, 04:49 PM good drop IMO, so much better then stock, what springs did you go with?
errol 03-02-2011, 08:50 PM Looks good bro! When did they change the license plates on Guam? I still got mine on my dash just to represent lol
I think they changed it like 2 years ago not sure. Nice 671 Rep!
good drop IMO, so much better then stock, what springs did you go with?
Thanks par, my kind of springs lol, naw man its cut springs
Bloodborn 03-03-2011, 01:06 PM Do you have a pic of the other side of the reverse light? I stopped the dealer when I bought mine, he even took it into the garage and his mechanic was ready to change the bulb out lol.

Hows it ride compared to stock?
errol 03-04-2011, 04:06 AM Hows it ride compared to stock?
Super smooth bro, gonna cut a little bit more.
donsun 03-04-2011, 12:54 PM isn't it easier to bottom out or rub with cut springs since the travel distance is shorter but the spring rate hasn't changed?
2tCornot2tC 03-04-2011, 02:09 PM You cut a spring, the spring rate goes up! The more you cut off, the greater the increase in spring rate. Engineering 101 guys.
donsun 03-04-2011, 02:16 PM am I missing something? Aren't spring rates constant? unless the stock springs on the tC are progressive, in which case I was wrong earlier.
2tCornot2tC 03-04-2011, 02:43 PM This time you are right...you are missing something...an engineering education. But that was your choice. But if we were all engineers, this would be a miserable place to be.
Take a look at a spring…if you are an engineer or very observant, you might notice that the front springs vary in diameter. They are smaller in diameter at the top and the bottom and larger in diameter in the middle. By varying the diameter, you varying spring rates. Another way of varying the spring rate is to vary the pitch of the spring. Now look at the rear springs. The coils look like they are bunched up at one end…usually the top. That is the other way. A third way is to vary the diameter of the spring wire…but that is very hard to do in a production environment…and not worth it.
donsun 03-04-2011, 03:00 PM lol thanks... 2nd year Mechanical Engineering at Georgia Tech not good enough for you?
I never looked at the springs before and never have looked at any springs on a car before for that matter since the tC is my first car. You could have just answered the question by telling me that the springs have a progressive spring rate... thanks for the info.
2tCornot2tC 03-04-2011, 03:42 PM I tend to be a PITA (I've been told this - not once)...I was hoping that you didn't have such a thin hide. Don't take it personally...
I know a lot about suspension systems. I've designed and built an F1 car...and had the entrance fee paid to start at the Long Beach race (look up when that was held and you'll get an idea of my age)...back when the host country was allowed "wild card" entries, provided you qualified. The driver didn't have the money to start the race...Oh well...I'm a has been! But that is the level of knowledge I have about suspension systems. I get tired of people giving bad information on the internet and so I try to educate them...but they continue to argue their misconception...I usually give up... but this one was simple enough to jump in...again...there is a thread about shocks (I don't recall if it's this one or another) that is wrong too...but to explain that one would require an engineering education to understand...so I din't even bother with that one.
MightyP 03-04-2011, 04:17 PM You cut a spring, the spring rate goes up! The more you cut off, the greater the increase in spring rate. Engineering 101 guys.
Your later post clarifies what you mean, but this particular post isn't necessarily true. You make 3 assumptions. First, that the tC spring is progressive (it is, but you wouldn't know unless you've looked). Second, that errol is cutting the softer, center of the spring (He hasn't had to buy new springs, so it's a safe bet he did). Third, it's not the more you cut, it's the more you cut of the right part of the spring. Cut too much and you destroy the spring.
You're the 30 lbs brain that designs this stuff and, like most engineers, forget not everyone has your education and experience. I'm the guy who has to figure out what an engineer really means and translate it so our technicians, who often barely graduated high school, can understand and reproduce it. :|
I have no doubt you are much smarter than me on this, but it seems cutting springs would greatly reduce the reliability and lifespan of the springs...
P.S. I'm a Spanish Major.
2tCornot2tC 03-04-2011, 04:38 PM ...but it seems cutting springs would greatly reduce the reliability and lifespan of the springs...
No...cutting off the end of the spring has no effect of the life of the spring. Now cutting into it is a different story...that could destroy it...depending on where you nick or cut into it.
Now that the spring is stiffer (because it is cut shorter), it will change the effectiveness of the shock absorber to the point that it could be useless or be under much greater load to fail sooner. The explanation is more that I would want to delve into right now...
donsun 03-04-2011, 05:14 PM lol, kinda new to this forum so wasn't sure how to react.. all is well then.
seems like you're pretty knowledgeable about most things in the automotive field. if i have a question i'll be sure to direct em to you ;P
2tCornot2tC 03-04-2011, 05:20 PM Hey, hey, hey...let's not get carried away here! I can't possibly know everything!
MightyP 03-04-2011, 05:23 PM I think think this thread is sufficiently jacked. :P
Sorry errol. It's still a nice ride!
WellesleyScion 03-04-2011, 06:04 PM Ok, so theoretically I could cut a coil off the top of my S-techs to go a little lower and it would stiffen the ride, not make it bouncier? (CS major over here, LOL)
2tCornot2tC 03-04-2011, 06:38 PM Ok, so theoretically I could cut a coil off the top of my S-techs to go a little lower and it would stiffen the ride,
Correct...but!!! the spring seat will not be clocked properly. I have not looked at it close enough yet to tell you if you could put an eccessive lateral load on the sock tower ball joint...you could put a lateral load on the suspension components if you do that. There have been reports here that that has been happening with the TRD springs that are not installed properly.
not make it bouncier? (CS major over here, LOL)
Wrong! The shock absorber is designed to the spring rate and the weight applied (mass on the corner of the car). The only reason aftermarket shocks have adjustable damping, is to select the correct damping for the spring rate installed...1 shock, lots of springs...cheaper also.
Just take a look at a low-rider...they cut so much out of the spring (to lower it) that the suspension is so stiff that the shock can't handle it any more...therefore it bounces! The handling characteristics are not nearly as good as they could be if you adjust the damping to attain the ride you want/need. This is the backyard way and not the go fast way. If all you are after is..."All show and no go", then cut away...but you will sacrifice ride quality and cornering performance. I personally don't care about show...I will sacrifice looks for performance any day!
2tCornot2tC 03-04-2011, 06:48 PM Another problem with cutting springs is that the end of a spring is "closed" when it is manufactured. That makes is flat on the end to distribute the load on the spring to the "pillow" (rubber seat) to the chassis. If you cut the end of the spring, then the there is no more "flat" to distribute the load. The low-rider guys, torch the spring and let it collapse on itself, but that destroys the temper (springiness) of the spring...it will fail there. Don't cut the spring...buy what you need/want.
errol 03-04-2011, 09:04 PM Leche guys too much info about spring rates.
I cut the stock springs on the bottom instead of the top.
I havent bottomed out or rub..yet but since im going a little bit lower we'll soon find out, but i doubt that i'll rub or bottom out since its really not that slammed. I still have a lot of clearance left.
since i took out the bump stop the ride isnt bouncy at all, super smooth just needa watch out for the bumps & potholes haha.
MightyP 03-05-2011, 03:57 AM Ahh... I get it. I was totally leaving the shocks out of the equation.
And if you don't have the sub-assembly with the bearings (top of the strut tower) clocked properly, you will have issues. I am about to fork out $115 a piece to replace the worn ones because I didn't reinstall them correctly when I put my H-Techs in. Some other people have done the same thing (with S-Tech and TRD springs). It's easy to do. Grr...
errol 03-05-2011, 04:03 PM Did work on the car today lowered it more, slapped on some 10mm spacers & installed a HD front lip

Thanks man really appreciate it. Oh & im on cut springs
1stOne 03-06-2011, 02:20 PM ^LOL! Are you going to a suspension kit eventually? If so, which one are you leaning towards?
FlintMica2005 03-06-2011, 04:18 PM love the drop. try some 25mm bolt ona for the back and 20 for the front. youll really be flush then
mmmpshh 03-06-2011, 04:25 PM nice!
errol 03-06-2011, 10:00 PM Thanks guys :D
^LOL! Are you going to a suspension kit eventually? If so, which one are you leaning towards?
Yeah maybe on a long run cuz as of now im tryna pay off my school the car and insurance cant save up to buy real suspension..yet, but i will like you said eventually lol.
love the drop. try some 25mm bolt ona for the back and 20 for the front. youll really be flush then
Thanks man, uh maybe i will but for now the spacers i got will do for now until i get some offsetted wheels.

HD? home depot? how did you make it? i REALLY like how that looks... not to mention its cheap!
greenbean24 03-07-2011, 06:24 AM I have a few ?'s,
Could you explain exactly how you cut the springs and how much you cut out?
Also, how is the ride with the stock struts since you've cut the springs?
Thanks man, the wait is killing me for coils, you make me wanna fire up the cutoff wheel.
errol 03-07-2011, 07:26 AM @cement: yes its a home depot lip (bottom garage door seal by FrostKing)
@greenbean: 1. FRONT SPRING: from the end point on the bottom of the spring i measured it across (that's 1 coil that i cut off) then i measured it again from end point to a half (that's .5 coil off) REAR SPRING: same exact thing from end point of the bottom then going up 1 coil.
Front: 1.5 inch cut
Rear: 1.0 inch cut
2. The ride is super smooth & this is without the bumpstops on the front suspension. Even though you cut the BS in half it'll still have that bumpy feel.
Bloodborn 03-07-2011, 06:48 PM Looking good man, love that HD lip. I put on a set of Fig grilles this weekend on mine, and it makes it look a lot meaner.
errol 03-07-2011, 10:57 PM Thanks man. Real? nice you got a pic?

KidJustin 03-16-2011, 04:01 PM about the home depot lip...
what did you use to mount it? just double sided tape or did you screw it on anywhere?
oh and I'm really like ur TC2 by the way! so far most of the things your doing/did is what I had envisioned for my SWTC2
errol 03-18-2011, 01:08 AM Thanks man really appreciate it, um for the HD lip I used 3M Red double sticky tape & bracket mounts with tap screws and washers just to be safe so it wont rip or fall off. :icon_biggrin:

Where do you buy that paint? and how long did you have to wait before you could drive the car? o:
I bought the paint at Napa auto parts
More common colors (red, blue, black) are available at most auto parts stores. And they say wait 24 hrs to drive your car.
Well for me I use a heatgun/hair dryer to make it dry faster lol
MightyP 04-10-2011, 01:01 AM ^ Did mine today. You made me jealous, lol. Paint was dry to the touch after about an hour, but I'm gonna wait the full 24 hrs though. We can take my wife's car anywhere we need to go for the next day.
im jealous too!! but now im stuck iin between painting mine neon greenish color or purple
MightyP 04-10-2011, 03:13 AM Why purple?
errol 04-10-2011, 04:26 AM Go rainbow lol jk. I painted my friend that dark magnetic grey tc2 like a TIEN Green looks nice & it stands out too
purple is just a new color i want to try on the new tc since my old one was ALL blue. but im thinking maybe all purple interior lights and under hood lights. and a neon green for under hood parts and calipers?? wont happen anytime soon but i will eventually get to it. i have pay the stupid irs 2k first...
tein green wouldnt be bad either.. i just have to play with different shades first.
johndeo11 04-10-2011, 05:41 AM Go rainbow lol jk. I painted my friend that dark magnetic grey tc2 like a TIEN Green looks nice & it stands out too

errol 04-22-2011, 07:47 AM Just a small acc. update, I bought some #12 finishing washers & 6mmx16/20mm screws & painted it with the leftover purple. Looks good & definitly cheap looking JDM fender washers. Lol xD

MightyP 04-22-2011, 04:20 PM Nice touch!
christovofdunn 04-22-2011, 10:07 PM Will any type of paint work for the calipers? Are they difficult to take off? I've never really gone too far with moding...
MightyP 04-22-2011, 10:28 PM You need to buy high temp paint. If you go common colors (red, blue, black), you can find the paint at your local autoparts store. If you want something like purple, you'll have to get it online. Just search for caliper paint.
As for difficulty doing it, you don't even have to take the calipers off. I just jacked up my car and took off the wheels.
christovofdunn 04-22-2011, 10:35 PM Thanks! I have to try this out.
errol 04-23-2011, 12:40 AM Thanks MightyP

scottobahn 06-28-2011, 04:22 AM Take it back to the dealer and have them fix it....they fixed mine free of charge :) The bracket holes aren't the dealers fault but when they screw the license plate frame in too far and f up your bumper yeah, dealers fault. I just asked them to fill all the holes since they were fixing their mistake anyways.
good luck!

MightyP 07-06-2011, 12:47 AM ^True statement
JPfeffer 07-06-2011, 05:56 AM Errol, if I didn't HATE the idea of cutting springs, it would be at the top of my list of mods. Because that car looks SO sharp with those spacers and that drop. My word. Great job! Is there any way you could fix the pictures throughout your build though? I want to see everything and I think you may have moved the pictures around in your photo hosting account after you posted the link to this thread and it says it can't find them. Help?!?!

It pretty much did on last week thursday but its still good for me the ride isnt bouncy at all. but i'd recommend not cutting it that's if you dont want to but for those that wanna experiment or doesnt give a fk like me then go for it! lol xDD hahahaha
My shocks dont matter to me at all I just like getting attention & what others say about my ride. It makes me wanna slamm it more! hahaha
donweso809 07-11-2011, 08:54 AM ummm okay... lol well i still dont know ... how long after u dropped it did they give out?
errol 07-11-2011, 09:01 AM I'd say about 5months or so.
Scion202 07-17-2011, 08:57 AM did you have 10mm spacers in the front?
what company/how easy to install?
errol 07-17-2011, 02:35 PM The spacers were universal & its not really that hard to install. I bought it here at a local auto parts shop.
Scion202 07-18-2011, 07:14 AM did you just slap it on or used the extended bolts?
errol 07-18-2011, 07:32 AM I just slapped it on im waiting to get extended studs.
JPfeffer 07-19-2011, 02:08 AM Errol, with the antenna plugged, how is your reception? Is the antenna just sitting under that rear quarter panel? I'm toying with the idea of shaving the antenna completely, but if I lose reception pretty significantly, I'll just go with an RDX. Just wondering how it's affected you.
errol 07-19-2011, 12:30 PM Well the only reason why I covered it up is cuz I like the flushness also the look/style, no antenna for me is good, reception wise its still good but havent been using radio since eversince, only a micro usb.
errol 08-14-2011, 01:03 AM Yeah I really needa put spacers on the rear, these wheels are 18x7.5 on 40 series tires (just borrowing them)http://i81.photobucket.com/albums/j214/pogi_09/DSC09554.jpg

errol 12-29-2011, 04:20 AM What are the specs on the wheels?
Sorry mine aren't as badass as compared to yours lol
18x8.75 +20
If it doesnt have that aggressive stance that I wanted Ima be running spacers for that poke looks or stay flush/tucked.
mine are the same size if you want to check out what itll look like.. imo i like it! as far as flushess is concerned. i just need my drop.
errol 12-29-2011, 08:38 AM It'll show a bit of camber once you drop it.
Saw a black 11' tC with deep dish wheels, dropped, with a good amount of poke calling me out. I hate competition. LOL
OH AND I DONT THINK THAT I'LL BE ABLE TO SLAP ON THE WHEELS BY THIS FRIDAY TOMORROW DUE TO LACK OF FUNDS AND PLUS ALSO BUYING A FEW PARTS FOR THE TC, I KNOW IM A LITTLE BIT DISSAPOINTED TOO. HOPEFULLY IT'LL BE ON EITHER NEXT MONTH JAN. OR FEB. UNTIL THEN STAY TUNED GUYS!

Not really know the seller but the products is pretty descent though the roof spoiler isn't a perfect flush fit the edges sorta stick out a bit so you have to some how make it even side to side.
