Default Seven years old update

I thought this might interest some of you. I have been on this forum since before I bought my xB in April 2004. Now I can tell you a little about it on its seventh birthday.

My 2005 xB has 154 miles on it. I drive 100 miles round-trip to work every work day. I have followed the service manual and used Castrol 5W-30 at 3,000 - 5,000 mile change intervals. Both right side doors are dented from a buck deer ramming into me last Oct. Since I live in the southeast where dealers are independent I was able to buy the car new with a Bola exhaust, cold air intake, and cruise control. I also bought the factory package cover. The cover is still in the plastic. I don't think I gained any noticeable fuel economy of performance with the intake and exhaust upgrades. I'd save that grand if I were doing it over, and the forty or so bucks on the package cover as well. I would still have cruise installed.

Bottom line, it has been a GREAT car. In the whole time I've owned it the only think that broke is the cigarette lighter plug. Frankly I think that is because they ran the cruise off it. I think that is pretty good reliability for a car that cost me about $15,000.

Thats awesome! Still running well?

I'm on my second xB, my first was totaled 2.5 years ago. Great cars, I'd never drive anything but a Scion!

Great to hear an update. I'm on my second 1gen xB as well, though I still have the first one (one for show, one for DD). The daily I bought used and has 110k, I agree as far as performance / efficiency go the intake and exhaust don't really add anything but noise, my daily is bone stock.

So how long are you planning on keeping it? Until the wheels fall off?

the reliability of these will prolly be never matched by any new Toyota/Scion products sadly

i thought they were the dumbest looking things when they first came out, and then i found myself wanting to get one. i still don't like the second generation ones much. i don't like the looks of the cube, or ford flex either. 7 years though is great! i've got a 187 mile round trip commute to work for now. i'm a union carpenter, and i have to go wherever the work is. every third week i don't work either so it's only 3 weeks a month for now. sometimes i'll take the 2000 f350 diesel i got cause i have a side business so if i'm doing a job after work i'll take that sometimes. that's exactly why i got mine. to commute, and get something a little newer with a little less mileage. i have bad credit, and didn't wanna pay a high interest rate on something brand new, and didn't wanna borrow the rest from my mother, and the newer cars seem to have a lot of headaches so this one is good! you're 55? guess i'm not that old to be driving one huh?

I am 6' 4" and have big dogs and needed a car with room for them. I live seventy minutes from work so my 17 mpg dually truck isn't going to cut it. I bought the car because I was finding other people's trash in the $10,000-$12,000 back when I was looking. I figured I might as well spend a little more and get a lot more. It was a good move.

The car still runs great. I has a belt squeal, especially when it rains and I first start up. I replaced the belt but it still does it. If that is the worse that happens I'm okay with it.

I bought my '05, brand new in Feb of '05 and she only has 67K miles on it! No problems at all from her and I too can't or want to get rid of her, although I've been wanting to add an '11 xB to join her!

Mine. Since 11/2004. Still under 40K miles. Only issue is my door lock (driver's door) and she'll probably be visiting the dealer to get this fixed. Fell in love with it when I saw one in Union Square (NYC). I plan on keeping it for many years to come as well as my H3 Alpha...

I'm pretty much in the same boat has sgf. We bought our xB in February 2004. It now has 136,000 miles on it and the only troubles we've had is a rear wheel bearing went out under warranty and the entire A/C system was upgraded under the extended warranty. We just put our 4th set of tires on it. It's been a great vehicle and still runs like it was brand new. The body is in almost perfect shape minus a small ding and scratch on one of the rear doors.

I started a Count-down/up to 300,000 miles thread here. Last post 291.
They certainly are cheap to own.
