Default Any 'S' pipe alternatives that don't cost an arm and a leg?

I haven't climbed under my xB2 and measured the 'S' pipe yet, but I'm guessing it's smaller ID than 3". I'm aware of the Weapon-R which is majorly expensive, and there's also an eBay offering that's apparently 3" diameter, though it appears a different shape from the Weapon-R.

Anybody know what works with the OE scuba, is a genuine upgrade over the OE pipe (definitely superior flow characteristics), and yet fits OE at both ends?

Custom made or Weapon-R is your only choice. You can take a chance with the eBay one then modify it to fit properly though.

Although I have to say, I don't see how the Weapon-R S-Pipe costs an arm and a leg...

one second though. i have I/h/e the only thing stock on my exhaust is that s pipe. now depending on what exhaust you have i remember reading i think having a new s-pipe wont do much. my exhaust is a 2.5 all the way. i have no scuba or anything like that. just pure rawness. if i recall my strup header ends in a 2.5. normally the exuast ends in a 2.25. since mine is a 2.5 thats obv different. so having 2.5 into 3, back into 2.25 would seem to be counterproductive or not very effective. BUT there is 95% percent chance im completely wrong.

Can i get someone else to verify or deny what i just wrote? I remember a similar thread when i was looking at a new s pipe and decided against it.

Hey dude !

The only reason I raised the question is since I'm installing a header, it's an opportunity to consider the 'S'-pipe as well. However, unless there's a significant improvement in flow (perhaps larger ID, perhaps mandrel bend Vs crush) then it really wouldn't make much sense. Even then, if the price is at all considerable, then it still isn't a good fit for me. I agree that it's a relatively minor concern, but I thought it worth looking and asking.

Unless it has smoother bends, I don't see it helping?

Side by side pics of the OEM s-pipe and Weapon-R s-pipe are in posts #8 and #9 of this thread:

Thanks, but looking at the photos, the only think I can conclude is if you have the money, incremental improvements are available, albeit the increments are pretty small ! I'd be interested if an 'S'-pipe really made sense as an upgrade, but I'm not clear that exists yet. Thanks !

the WR s-pipe is believe is about a 1/4"-1/2" larger in ID larger couple that with smoother bends it will make a difference. Huge.. Not even close.

More flow is always a good thing.

^True....but we aren't driving turbo cars here. We don't really NEED huge piping from the manifold back. Anyone dyno this thing?

In that same breath I could say then whats the point of doing anything to your car all mods except for "turbos, SC, and Stroking your car out will always be lack luster and a waste of money. Any header and exhaust and any intake really is ultimately pointless unless its a precursor to a major mod like stated above.

What Im trying to say is if you think its going to look good on your car then get it because you're really spending your money on aesthetics then performance upgrades.

Just my $0.02

True, I see what you are saying. Im just a cheap ___ who looks at parts in a "power/handling result to $$" ratio

If I could get a clearly superior to OE 'S'-pipe for say $75 shipped, I would be very interested ! Since you can get a pretty decent header for $125 shipped, I think that should be doable, however, that doesn't mean I'm expecting it to materialize !

i was just comparing the look of mine to the ebay one it just looks like the ebay one is to short and the bends arent the same. I could be wrong hell i say if you got the cash get it and then do the same thing you did with the header and make it work...

Well, a lot depends on camera angle when taking photos, but in terms of price, the eBay 'S'-pipe is the same as the header -- seems a bit stiff to me ! As I said, around $75 shipped would definitely grab my attention !
