I'm starting to get small specks of rust forming on my DC headers. How should I get it off? If I sand it, will it remove any of the coating?

View Full Version : My DC Headers are rusting nycazn79 03-15-2005, 10:22 PM I'm starting to get small specks of rust forming on my DC headers. How should I get it off? If I sand it, will it remove any of the coating? English 03-15-2005, 10:24 PM Are you serious??? How long have you had them? Damn mild steel headers!!! I think you could probably touch those spots up with a high temp paint...but it will void your warranty, I think they have a 1 year warranty though... nycazn79 03-15-2005, 10:28 PM I've had them since the first week they were shipped out in December 2004. I just hope they don't become as rusted as the stock headers. English 03-15-2005, 10:32 PM call dc, see what they can do about it Lonely_Raven 03-15-2005, 10:38 PM Definitly call DC!! suby2scion 03-15-2005, 10:40 PM I'd reccomend to anyone getting headers to get them ceramic coated first. they'll never rust and the coating keeps the heat in and underhood temps lower. http://www.jet-hot.com/pages/headercoatings.html?src=overture&OVRAW=jet%20hot%20coating&OVKEY=jet%20hot%20coating&OVMTC=standard I had it done on my WRX's uppipe and it was nice. Alot of subie guys get it done on headers, turbos, uppipes, downpipes, etc... it doesn't cost that much either. BrianxB 03-15-2005, 10:43 PM I hate to say it but its a DC header and you shouldnt expect anything less. Its normal for them to rust, youre lucky yours hasnt rusted more. DC will do nothing for you. Sorry. Your best bet is to take it off, bead blast it clean and use VHT brand high temp paint (2000 deg) to coat it then bake it in the over for about an hour at over 350 degrees. That will last you a good three or four years before needing a reapplication. mikochu 03-15-2005, 11:09 PM If you are going to contact DC Sports, the fastest way to get an effective reply is to take pictures of the rusting areas. Emailing the pictures to them will give the DC tech support department an idea of what is going on... f1nch 03-15-2005, 11:22 PM ARE YOU F*CKIN SERIOUS! grrrrr....spend money on a reputable company and get a sh*t product...if mine start to rust i will most definately use the aforementioned advice.... TurboMe 03-15-2005, 11:44 PM CLR anyone? English 03-16-2005, 04:35 AM CLR? mikochu 03-16-2005, 04:39 AM It's an old infomercial product that was some miracle cleaning chemical.. TurboMe 03-16-2005, 04:40 AM it removes lime/rust DouBLeJ16 03-17-2005, 07:28 AM why does everyone say "headerS"? it's a 4cyl, not a v6 or a v8, it only has 1 header. DouBLeJ16 03-17-2005, 08:53 AM also, megan non-rusting/cheaper header > dc header :) |
