Well i think promoting body sag is BAD.

I also think that looks WAY off.
It looks like a dead Grasshopper.
The doors on the scion are way too bulky to swing up in conjunction with it's body lines and styling.
it's a FnF mod that simpltons throw onto their car when they have no desire or knowledge to tune.

If it's on a Manufacturer's car, that is a different story. Daily driving with Bug wing doors will damage the location where they are hinged.

Aside from the reasons stated above, it also looks bad because the door has a window frame border.

If it didnt have that, and the windows were rolled down, it'd look good.

I like the look of them, I think its really ugly on short doors, but the tc has nice long doors. the problem is the sag, but it won't keep sagging, and when it settles you can have the panels adjusted

not my style, I use to like it but now that I see it on a tC, I'm not crazy about it. It might be interesting to see the doors open backward, kinda like suicide doors.

i like it, it looks alot better on the tc than it does on the xb.

You are correct, it will sag so far as to weaken to failure and no longer sag! Chasing the sag will also cost as much as the kit... or more.

I've seen guys who put this on their daily drivers.... every 4000 miles they "Chase" the sag

Sag is what happens when you hinge those heavy ___ tC doors in an improper location. Hinging it on a body frame can cause the frame to sag... see gravity + Enertia on solids such as metal. (Friction = heat. Not a measurable heat by touch or view, but on a molecular scale.)The molecules will endure friction in varying degrees, more friction (driving, turning, speedbumps, gravel, pot holds, bumps, a penny) will cause more molecule displacement. (they will move) Displacement leads to eventual sag. fixing a "sag" will lessen the tenacity of the frame it's attached to.
therefore, RUINING your car.

This is a mod for Show cars that see very little road.

The vehicles that come from the factory with gull wings, swing ups, etc are engineered to avoid sag.

well.. i do not think it looks TOOO bad looking at it from the rear.. but those head on shots do not look good... NOW.. i have issues with these after market hinges or the way they swing the door.. first.. it's been done AAALLLOOOTTT!! on EVERY TYPE of car.. so it is no longer original.. at least down here in south FLA.. the other is that they do not open/swing up enough.. if you ever noticed a lambo and see how far up they swing, you see that the passengers in the vehicle have plenty of room to get in or out.. every one of these after market rigs i have seen open just enough to allow you to wiggle out..

id like to servey all the people who have these hinges and see how many have had cuts on their heads in trying to get in and out of their cars..

on the sagging.. i would assume that they would use the same mounting points of the original door hinges.. ( i have never looked into this so im just assuming) "if" they do.. i do not understand why then would this cause anymore stress on the frame than regular hinges.. the weight of the door has not changed.. again "assuming" that the factory mounting points are used.. the biggest failure point i see are the hinges themselfs......

I see the tC as a classier sports subcompact, if there is a thing, and the Lambo door just don't flow at all. Perhaps if it was more symmetrical like a Lambo, or Celica...just doesn't go.

Why ricers have to ruin every single kind of mod for a car. Body kits used to be cool, until a bunch of idiots started buying unpainted gross-looking kits and installing them on their Civics. Exhausts used to be cool, until every kid on the block got a fart can on their car. Lamborghinis used to be exotic, until people starting putting vertically opening doors on economy cars.

Thats not rice, it's pretty nice if you ask me. Rice in my opinion, are lames who can't afford to mod their car with any class, so they do a half ___ job. A spoiler isn't by nature "rice" , nor is a sticker, not is a specialty door hinge (lambo). It is the way said items are implemented - that is to say, with class, or without class - which makes them rice. On that stock black cherry pearl tC, I don't think it looks good...the car needs wheels at least, before it is clean enough to have a mod like lambo doors. However, on that second black cherry pearl tC, it looks beautiful. The wheels accent the car superbly, and the lambo doors are a nice addition. Personally I think if someone wants to mod their car with more attention to looks than performance, then that is their preferance. It does not make their mods rice, as long as the car looks good, and doesn't give off some sort of illusion of having many performance mods when it doesn't. Rice is a fake turbo, or a fake "NOS" bottle, not 2000 dollar lambo doors.

Well, you're saying that if someone wants to focus on looks rather than performance then let them. So why are fake turbos and empty NOS bottles rice, then? A person just wants to focus on looks, so they just get a fake BOV, or a fake NOS kit, what's so ricey about it? They just want the look. You can say Lambo doors are not a performance mod, but where do you draw the line? Pretending like you have a powerful engine with a fake BOV, or pretending you have an exotic with vertically opening doors? Is it really that different?

I feel the same way about the Lambo doors. Sure, if you like them and want to do it, power to you, but in my opinion, and even according to what you said, Woodyear, lack of class makes it rice. I think putting doors found on a $200k exotic on a $17k Toyota is lack of class. The feature itself is cool, but it just does not belong on a car of this class. tCs are great cars. but you would be naive to think they are even remotely resembling Lamborghinis in any way, shape, or form.

p.s. i drove a diablo vt a couple weeks ago and um i must say the doors are awesome, and look sweet up, but biggest PITA to get into, espceially since im 6'2. But the thing sits so low too and its a small comaprtment. The doors were awesome, but extremely hard to ge tinto u have to slide in or go head first or soemthing weird like that.

Like I said, That mercedes and that beamer ARE what I would consider rice, because they obviously haven't been done with any class. Proper moding requires a mixture of class, expense, serious thought, and a lot of time and energy. It can't be something expensive which is done haphazardly and slapped on. Nor can it be an ugly body kit or wing, done with care and precision. Moreover, you'll note that I said that modding for appearance only, would require that one does NOT give off the illusion of performance mods which are in fact not present. That would mean, fake nos, fake turbos, etc are not mods done for "looks" but are in fact mods done to give off an impression of performance which isn't there. That is rice. Rice can be expensive , or it can be cheap. But I do not see how 2000 dollar vertical doors, on a very clean car, done properly and functioning as they're supposed to could be considered rice. It could possibly be considered as being in bad taste, relative to your own personal taste, but nothing more. In my opinion, on the stock BCP tC, it would be in bad taste, yet not quite rice. On the second BCP tC that we see, with the ground effects, and wheels I think the mod is complimentary and very fitting. Clean mod if you ask me.

actually. a rep from saleen at the detroit auto show who worked on the s7 told me that. thats y the s7's doors open like they do, the same as a Mclaren F1. it doesn't relly make too much sense to me but i doubt a saleen rep would be talking out of his ___.

um the doors are closed, not open during driving, so therefore it makes no difference ot the aerodynamics of the car.....they could open either way

which is why the Lambo gallardo, Porsche Carrera GT, all Aston Martins, and the Bugatti Veyron have conventional swinging doors.

Lambo doors (which is not really accurate. because of variations between each cars) is all about style and the "oooh" effect =)

Have you guys ever tried to get in an out of a car with the Lambo door mod? Nearly impossible! The bottom corner of the door is placed right where your head would normally be so you have to avoid brain damage every time you exit the car. They should call them LIMBO doors.

i agree - its not rice - its lambo - euro style - i dont like it because the doors must first swing out about 3 inches and then be pushed upward. on a regular lambo they go strait up and look better because of that - aftermarket lambo doors or vertical doors stick out too far before going upwards. with that in mind i bet they look alot better in person and i know most people that get into that car are not expecting their doors to be vertical. get alot of "oohs" and "aahhs" from the girlies but your stock wiring harness must be chopped for this mod.

if I pulled up to a gas station (or somewhere) and put these doors up i'm almost positive that I'd get compliments just because it's so different.

have you guys seen the way the Mclaren SLR or the Enzo opens up? I believe they use 2 hinges, on on the side, and one higher up on the A-pillar. I think that can be better for support and opening, as well as not have too much sagging

SLR opens at the rear view mirrors, one and only to use that type of hinge system, i read an article about it, very crazy design and very very strong hinges

there is a company that makes lambo doors that go straight up. they even go up to 130 degrees. with those there is no problem getting in and out of the car. also they offer a remote door opener that you dont even have to touch the doors to open them. now that is cool and no where near rice.
