Looks good, thanks for posting the pics. The gauges look good in that panel but it's a PITA working around the mounting tabs and reinforcements isn't it?
FWIW, the oem thermostat is 180F, Stant offers a 170F, TRD a 160F and Mishimoto has a 140F version. IMO 160F is perfect but the TRD is so pricey I went with the Stant. The Mishimoto is a bit on the cold side for 365 usage. Also fwiw, I bypassed my throttle body coolant lines and didn't have any problems last winter. Good mod for lowering IAT's.

Just wanted to update that cars been running great, I daily drive it at 10psi, i know its so much faster but getting a little used to so makes me want to turn it up more hahaha
goals are:
new wheels and tires for my bday in sept
cooling system-radiator, hoses, thermostat soon
clutch and lsd by xmas time
that way can upgrade fuel system that will take it up to 13-14 psi range so 340-360whp roughly ^_^
then maybe build block for higher boost sometime next year (dreaming big) haha
ohh yea drove my buddies 07 si other day, he as aem intake and skunk2 exhaust (super load) smooth ride and everything but missed my xb2s power haha

Why do you want to change out your radiator? A colder thermostat is probably all you need unless you've modified the oem fans or shrouds. FWIW, I'd recommend building the block before going 13-14 psi. It might save you a lot of money in the long (or short) term. At 10 psi you've already got one of the fastest XBs on the planet, enjoy it. :)

:ponder: What is a decent Turbo kit that would still keep the car reliable. I am not looking to go out to the track I'm just looking for a more hp. I am NEW at forced induction. What will I need, where is a good place to buy? How much :ponder:
pyroman131
08-27-2011, 04:13 AM
Since you're new at Turbo, you'll want to buy a complete kit.
Descendant is the most popular choice, and their complete Turbo kit sells for about 4,900. If you buy their cheaper Tuner-friendly kit, it sells for about 2,900, but you'll have to provide the other necessary parts (e.g., Fuel Rail).
The Turbo kit you can order from their Web site where they'll ship it to you. Since you're new to Turbo, it's definitely recommended to have a professional install it.
If you are an automatic transmission, you can safely run your car between 5-7psi max. Some ATs are running 7psi, but just know that there could be potential risk running that or higher. I believe 7psi gets you about 260whp? Around that area.
If you are manual, you can virtually run at any psi.
With an automatic, if you'd like to raise the psi, you'll need to fortify the drivetrain. That'll cost more.
ScionFred
08-27-2011, 08:18 AM
^^ What Pyroman said other than the typo about "fuel rail". I'm sure he meant to say "fuel inj's" or "fuel management" instead. You won't need a new fuel rail unless you're aiming for serious HP. For what you're asking, 440cc can work with the stock ECU and 4-6 psi. More boost/HP/TQ will require 550cc+ inj's and a piggyback engine management unit such as the AEM FIC or others.

The XB engine is capable of doing 200 something hp with the TRD SC and that SC costs a lot doesn't give you enough hp to satisfy you. To install it is a pain in the butt hole, In the other hand the descendant Turbo Kit is the best choice around. Another good point about the descendant is that is reliable ___ hell because it is a bolt on the only part you need to modify is your front bumper and it is not a mechanical part so if you want it to be more reliable it depends on you cuz you chose the amount of PSI, have them install you a boost controller, enjoy your ride oh and f*ck aerodynamics lol.
scionxbpr
10-18-2011, 12:17 AM
I believe that the bolt on kit comes with this inter cooler and if you want it to breath and get more power with less effort you should do this n_n
you dont need to modify the bumper for SMIC. Its full bolt on part
scionxbpr
10-18-2011, 10:12 AM
In my opinion that SMIC looks sick, but with the other one it would look more like a sleeper and the TRD CAI might work with the FMIC. As far as I have read here the FMIC was an upgrade for the Turbo Kit and anyway both are good choices.
that looks interesting, but rob said today that the SMIC is just as efficient flow wise, as the FMIC.
FMIC is for those who want the look, or dont like the off balanced look of the SMIC.
Flow rates in both locations are identical
Roller_Toaster
10-18-2011, 03:53 PM
Looking forward to seeing some dyno runs and air temp comparisons of that smic vs an xb2 with a fmic.
ScionFred
10-18-2011, 04:42 PM
There is no "best" IC for a boosted XB. Only what's "best" for a particular application and owner preference. If I were trying to squeeze every last bit of power from my engine I'd definitely go for the larger FMIC. OTOH, the SMIC is adequate for up to 400whp and I plan to stay well below that. If I simply swapped my SMIC for a FMIC I would probably lose some power due to the extra IC pressure loss. I'd need to raise my wastegate boost pressure to compensate.
It's not necessary to cut the bumper fascia like pictured above to run the SMIC and 300whp/tq. Simply removing the blank vent cover should be enough. You guys are correct in what you're saying though. The FMIC is certainly the most efficient and the SMIC would be more efficient with the front fascia opened up and a large hole cut from the fender liner behind it. I'm just saying that because we're all limiting our power anyway for reasons like auto trans, stock block, etc., it's not necessary or even beneficial to cut the bumper or go with the FMIC. If you're staying below 400 whp just choose the IC setup you like best. :)
ScionFred
10-19-2011, 02:22 AM
"to each, his own in this case"
That sums it up quite nicely. I also went SMIC to retain a sleeper look but SP2 did a great job of hiding his FMIC with the black IC, couplers and pipes. IMO either IC should work very well for the typical 250-300 whp/tq turbo setup we see.

So just installed the GGP motor mount and love it, it makes car vibrate a lot but makes her feel like a beast ready to unleash. Driving and shifting feel so much smoother and tight. It gives the exhaust a lil different tone at some rpms cuz the tighter engine with less movement. I greatly recommend as long as you don't mind the vibration.
xseveredveganx

When I had the GGP mount installed with my AT, everything including my teeth rattled at stop signs and lights. If I shifted into neutral, the vibration was very tolerable, especially with the softer inserts. I wouldn't recommend the GGP mount for anyone with a AT XB.

feels nice so far in the morning going to local shop to get my new continental dw 225/50/16 installed and put my ebc red stuff brake pads on myself

I find that most of us with an auto are a bit 'older' per se. :silly:
I couldnt even imagine a weapon r or GGP mount in this car, although I have heard nothing but good things about the GGP in the tc1 dept.
definitely the route to go
Older and wiser... ;) I love the GGP mount but it's strictly for M/T cars. The only way it would be tolerable for a A/T car would be to shift into neutral whenever stopped. The problem is the torque converter pre-loading the solid GGP mount whenever stopped and in gear. Even with the soft inserts it made the whole car shake so badly that it made a Harley Davidson feel like a Rolls Royce by comparison.

Didn't read the whole thread, but as for this post specifically, some main factors that could be explained are:
#1. Exhaust setup. (example: stock vs 3 inch exhaust)
#2. Elevation. (self-explanitory)
#3. Engine Conditioning (proper break-in, proper maintenance)

Is your catless exhaust insanely loud? I tried to replace my scuba with two vibrant ultra quier resonators.....it was louder than my bike (which has an aftermarket can).
Although, i guess the turbo acts like a mini muffler as well?

I would like to see your specs on the kit and a dyno sheet.
Everything you could ever want to know about my setup can be found in this thread (http://www.scionlife.com/forums/showthread.php?t=162346&highlight=cxr+redux). It's very long so you might wish to skip to the end for the current spec's and dyno results. Basically the setup works because the ECU can trim 20% larger injs (440cc), running 93 pump together with Toyos excellent knock sensor handles ign timing issues and keeping the MAF measurement the same as stock keeps ign timing and shift points where they should be. My one dyno run pretty much sucks because the shop was 90F+ and they only had one little fan blowing thru the rad and no air going to the IC or air filter. IAT was ~120F during the dyno runs and the ECU was pulling ign timing.
When I said that I make the same power as a tuned Descendant kit at 8psi I was referring to near-identical 1/4 mile ETs and trap speeds for my car and RJScion's. My heat-soaked dyno session says 215/220 whp/wtq but my ETs say 240whp/wtq which seems about right for 90F vs 60F.
Here is the dyno sheet thread (http://www.scionlife.com/forums/showthread.php?t=193755&highlight=cxr+dyno). I thought I also posted it in the main build thread but apparently not.
