Hi all - I was wondering if someone could settle an argument I'm having with my spouse about a new battery and its impact on presets.

The question is this: When a new battery is installed in the car, does it reset your engine oil replacement reminder light mileage count?

I change my oil every 3,000 miles and my last change was at 15,000 miles. I needed a new battery over the winter. When I looked at my oil replacement reminder mileage count, it showed only 2,000 miles since my last oil change, yet my car just turned over to 20,000 miles.

I know when I replaced the battery, I had to reprogram in my radio presets. Did the battery replacement also wipe clean my oil change mileage count at the same time?

Thanks for your help.

I'm still trying to win the argument though - perhaps I need to rephrase the question:

When the car battery is removed and replaced, does the trip odometer reset itself? (Not the car mileage odometer - I know that doesn't reset.) My wife is insisting that the battery removal reset the trip odometer which keeps track of the oil change time via the engine maintenance light. I don't agree with that.

Short of pulling out the battery to prove it, the only other way are your responses.

Is she right or am I? Chores and backrubs are at stake, so please help out.

Thanks all.

The Maintenance light is tripped by the Odometer, not the trip meter. It doesn't reset when you change the battery ( or disconnect it) if it is set for 3k miles it will come on just before as normal.
This is from 200,000 miles of experience.
