Question Poping sound

My xb has almost 114,000 miles on it and the other day after I had changed the motor oil and filter. I was at a red light, next to me was red Dodge V8 sport package pick up truck. The light turned green and we both hit it... I won by a 1/2 car lenght, but a had to red line it. I think I heard a pop sound from my engine, but I don't notice anything different. Should I be worried?

This has to be the most random thing I've heard all day. Yeah, you should be worried. First of all you're ruining your mpg for nothing. Slow down there, speed demon.. Youve got an xb. Second, you're redlining your xb just to beat a v8 dodge pick up truck for what? You think redlining it will bring something good? Nope.

When did you hear the pop? Was it during the racing and was it at redline when you heard the noise?

The popping sound was during the race, I believe it was between third and fourth gear, but not at the redline. This engine seems running smooth and it’s idle it perfect. But when I shift, I hear/see the rpm’s go up tiny a bit.
Let me picture the situation, it wasn’t like I was looking to race. I was going to a doctor’s appt. at a new location. When the receptionist gave me directions she made an honest mistake, she take a right when she meant left. This was also out on a country road where there is not traffic no danger, so I drove about 5 miles in the opposite direction when I called back to tell her this doesn’t look right, she was sorry. Then this person in the red truck tried to cut me off at the traffic light before. Thanks!

Was the noise up front or from the rear? Perhaps a rare backfire?

I hope you don't race your TC either, or is it your GF's? Girls love TCs 'cause they're so cute and sporty LOOKING.

Haven't you ever heard of an 'Italian tune-up'? Factory red-lines are set intentionally conservative and further protection is afforded by the oem rev-limiter. Blowing the carbon out is actually a good thing.

To the OP, you probably just hit the rev-limiter. Nothing to worry about.
