My thoughts on xB owners is that there are three groups; young drivers, middle age and the old folks. I wave to every xB I see and this is the results.

1. The old folks don't even notice other xB's on the road, and if they did the will never wave back.

2. Middle age sometimes notice you and might wave back.

3. Young drivers if guys will wave back, girls hardly ever wave back.

I was sitting at a traffic light and this white xB pulls up to my left. I look over and see a young girl, see never even looks to her right.

One time a lady tried waving at me so hard I sware she was going to fall out of her car...she was fat .....

Not to be a rude person....but I dont wave...if someone pulls up beside me and starts talking to me....I of course will carry on a conversation....

But I dont go all out to wave to every Scion I pass

I love the way some people group people, like all are the same with some rediculous blanket statement. Narrow minded! One recent post...Oldsters don't care about other peoples property.
2.Oldsters don't wave. I am sure some do (I do know my wife and I wave)
Does any young person know any oldster that these statements are not true for? If so, I sure didn't see any defense put up by anybody, young or old in defense of the oldsters on either of these two subjects. Afraid I guess. Some one young out there has to know an oldster that cares for others peoples property, (my Dad sure did) or waves.
We (as oldsters) try to spot xB's every time we are in ours, for an oportunity to wave. Some young, look and wave. Some middle-age, look and wave, and some females wave also. Females wave more when wife is in car. I figure that this is so some male will not see them waving as something more than just being friendly to a fellow xB owner.
Perhaps you don't get waved at by oldsters because of many reasons:
You drive like a maniac. Your music is too loud inside their car. The F*** U oldster's bumper sticker is offensive to them. Your playboy bunny display is not seen as tasteful.
If the any of the above fits you (and you can add many to the list), we would probably not wave either. If none of the above is true of you, we would be happy to wave. Perhaps the oldsters, realizing their reaction time is not what it used to be, strive to pay close attention to the road. If you really want a smile/wave, then try honking to get someones attention so they will wave. I mean a quick "honk", not taking a nap on the horn.
And one question and then I will bother you no longer. Who is really welcome to these "meets"? An age requirement should be clearly posted, less you have some oldster show up and ruin your get together. Is the xB bringing the meets together, or is young and having an xB required. If so, it would be real nice to post the age requirements. I would not want to show up for any "meet" and not feel welcome. Count me "absent".

I am an oldster myself. And like I said, I have yet to have another oldster wave back to me. I drive my car very much in a polite manner, I have to because of the wrap on my car. I do not play loud music, I just drive around and wave to other Scions and Corvettes.

Now when I drive my Vette I am a maniac, no ads on that car.

I wave to every xb I see, and I see a lot in Southern California, sometimes the younger girls will wave back but almost always the younger guys do.

When people drive cars that are few on the road the would usually wave. Drivers of British sports cars, Corvettes, true hot rods and bikers most of the time wave to each other.

In the early days of the Beetle when two would meet on the road they would flap their turn indicators at each other. There are a million Civics on the streets, not amny xB's out there.

I guess I am just one of the few that like to hold onto traditions.

Geez, someone needs to take their Geritol. Just kidding...

He said they were his observations, he didn't say every scion owner must fit into one of these categories.

BTW, It pains me to say, but I guess I'm in the middle group, but like my sig says, I still wave...

I have to say I being female age 31 I check out EVERY Box I pass driving or parked. (TC's and XA's also) If they looked my way I would wave. I did meet an elderly couple near Ocala in a Box - we went over and we chatted quite awhile. They love their Box just as much as we do. I thought that was awesome. I do pass one guy EVERYDAY in a Polar White Box on my way to work. He just stares like he has never seen my car before. One of these days I think Im just gonna have to stop and say hey - But Im usually trying to get there on time and its crossing traffic both ways - people are so rude they wont let you cross. Oh well one day. LOL

I'm 32 and I'll always wave back.

I used to have a Volkswagen TDI as well!

Tell me that a 2400 lb xB with the TDI motor under the hood wouldn't be fantastic!!

Toyota makes fine turbodiesels of their own, I would KILL to have a diesel xB.

I use to pass xB's so often driving around. Now that I've got mine, I've yet to see one to wave at...

Here in california though, I wouldn't be surprised if the person I waived to thought I was giving him a more "aggressive" gesture.

this is a known tradition with corvette owners, old and young alike.. not sure the scion community is made up of mostly enthusiasits... around here there are not many scions to wave to... and BTW, I am old.

Be realistic, your only middle-aged if you plan to live to 100.

Maybe you believe the old saying, "Your only as old as the woman you feel" or something like that. :rolling:

i just got an xB and i have yet to pass another one on the road. i don't know, with all this discussion about waving i'm all nervous now and wondering if i'll wave or not.

I saw an xB every day when I was driving my last car. I have had my bue box for over two weeks and have never even come close to another Scion, except a white tC that I was behind at a light...sad to say I couldn't tell it was a Scion because it doesn't look different from a regular car...oops...

Heh.

OK, I'm am old fart (working on my 59th year) and living where I do I don't see many Scions at all. Those few I do see I always try to acknowledge. Usually I get a smiling wave back.

Then there are the rare ones who wouldn't acknowledge the second coming if it happened on their hood...

Two slots down from where I park at my apartment is another xB. A nice looking one that's always clean and shiny.

Mine is PW with military veteran plates, his is TCM with military base stickers. For some odd reason the few times I've seen him he will look neither left nor right, will acknowledge nothing and no-one, won't even grunt back if we both park and get out of our xB's at the same time and I greet him.

Oh, well.

I've waved to others driving "cars like mine" whenever I've been driving something relatively rare - my MG's, my Porsche, etc. Over the years, most others have waved back, happy to see another who appreciated their ride.

Somehow we seem to have lost some of this in our society/culture over the years. These days, in some neighborhoods at least, indiscriminate waving, light-flashing, or honking can get one shot. Maybe that's why some don't respond? I dunno.

Odd. I live in a large metro area too, and I have yet to pass another xB coming the other way to wave or flash the lights at. But I can tell you in my BMW, no one waves. I wave at other M3's or other nice looking ones, never a wave back. Like "I'm too good to wave to you", or something. But hell, I'm driving the same kind of car they were !!

In my old MGB...........EVERYONE waved !! I think the xB will be about 70% wave---30% no wave.

I nod to those who nod at me. I don't go around waving at people, I don't want them to think I am some kind of psycho.

I see a mixture of people driving around here, mostly a lot of young people. Also, most of them are male drivers, the women are like me, somewhat young moms (in their 30's).

Of course I think I ____ off the mini van drivers who are of the "older" generation with my frame that states, "Because MiniVans Suck!" They always pass me up as if they beat me because it took them ten minutes to catch up to me after I passed them in the first place. WHATEVER! :loser:

Here's to all the Scion owners...{nod, nod, nod}

i guess the reason why people look for a nod or a wave is like someone said b4....there are few around....so its nice to see that others have made a good choice like you did. Its not like a prom dress that if the next girl has it on you throw a drink on her. I guess in a way were a not so secret society. I wave honk my horn and pull up and say nice car to other xb xa and tc owners and Im 23....so i guess im in the young bracket  i hope! how long would it take to wave? just have fun...it is still a FUN CAR?

We used to call this the "Jeep Wave" back when I had my old CJ-7 Jeep, but it was much better because regardless of what Jeep you drove everyone of every age would wave back, especially the CJ and Wrangler owners. The least likely to wave back were the snobs in the gold-trimmed Grand Cherokees.

The funniest part it the mini-cooper owners who wave and give a thumbs up.

Just keep up the xB wave, it will catch on...

I was on my way home today on Mission Blvd and saw the same color box as mine, but w/out the spoiler. Looks like he just bought it recently since there were no plates. He ended up in the left turn lane and I kept going straight, he honked and I waved out the window...not like a psycho or anything, just a non-chalant "hey wuzzup wave". And it felt good, too! I smiled all the way home, I felt I was in some secret Scion club. COOOLLLLLL!!! :P

Finally, I get to wave instead of nod this time!

I grew up in small towns so it was common to wave at pretty much every car that went by. Odds were so good it was someone you knew, that if you waited for a positive ID, you'd be toolate to wave, so it was better to wave at a few strangers than have people you knew think you were too good to wave. Times do change...

No one waves to any one about anything out here. People explicitly look away when walking as pedestrians, when passing other pedestrians. The only people who acknowledge each other are acquaintances, who do that 'the nod' thing.

I passed a BSP xB and the dude gave me a S-E grin. I passed a Camo xB the other day and the kid inside looked kind of horrified at me (I say kid because he was obviously younger than my ancient 23 years).
