View Full Version : Have you noticed? [scratches]
SaMerXB 03-17-2005, 09:48 PM Have you all ever noticed how easily the xb's get scratches on them. I was just lookin at my car today and saw all kinds of scratches on my door where people had opened their doors and hit mine. Their tiny white scratches but their everywhere. I tried using my scratch remover but it would take them off. I then noticed on the other parts of my car where no car door could have scratched and every now and there i see a small scratch, not really visible but it's there. Does anyone know of any products on the market that are really good for taking care of this kind of thing? Or is my best bet to take it to a body shop and have them take the scratches out? Anyone know about how much this would cost??

very true
Well, here is another bomb on ya. Check your side skirts where you exit the car. You will see some more scrathes from your shoes.
bB626 03-17-2005, 10:49 PM i dont care much about little scratches, i mean, its not a show car...
xBino 03-17-2005, 11:26 PM what color hide scratches the best? I'd imagine darker ones show them more easily.

TheDanger 03-18-2005, 12:40 AM my white doesnt show them bad...but on the other hand any chip in the front end (which we get alot) is very noticable since the plastic is black...

I did a search as I was curious and went 18 pages in without nothing talking 'bout this problem.
I got a black xb and I see the swirls on the freaking hood.
Got a link to this topic Eienstein?
Davestoaster 03-18-2005, 01:08 AM I agree with everyone here too. Had a few cars in my time, and the xB's paint has to be the weakest. They are nice colors, but the cheapest clearcoat I've ever had. All you have to do is look at them wrong and they scratch.
As for your black xB and the swirls, I think the best thing to do for your car and all the xB's is to wax......wax.......... and wax. As for the swirls, you might try doing evrything in a straight- line motion. That is, wash...dry....and wax in a straight line. Never in circles. Try that, it worked great on a black car that I had. I never had to use swirl remover when I did it like that.

Thanks.
I see this is worse than I thought...
XBman 03-18-2005, 03:53 AM no prob :)
I don't have an unusual amount of scratches on mine for a car that is 1 year old. I have two tiny rock chips on the hood (completely understandable in AZ) but that's about it.
Best paint finish I've seen on a sub $15k car. The problem I think, is alot of people coming from $20,25,30,000 cars expecting a Mercedes paint job on a $13,000 car.
IMO the fact that this econobox can satisfy people used to more expensive rides AT ALL, is pretty damn impressive.
HollyDo 03-18-2005, 11:23 AM You know Rion, I think you are right - I came from a 4-Runner myself and never had a problem with paint or scratches etc.............I don't notice much on my PW but the chipping on the front like Danger said is very noticable.
jaymo 03-18-2005, 02:08 PM chips of paint come off every once in a while..White XB.They show up as black..I call them "black holes" or " petrified bug road kill"...
suspended 03-18-2005, 03:23 PM I'm a new owne of a black sand pearl box, and I've noticed the scratches...but its all about maintence...I've been washing once a week, waxing once a month...and using detail spray in between, no problems yet...I use the meguires three stage system...i use their paint cleaners, polishers, and nxt wax whenever i wax...and it turns out beautiful....gotta use some elbow grease
yes I have on my passenger side door
LaVa~NyC 04-02-2005, 03:27 AM i uded to gget scatches and rock chips on my lower lip ..i bought the clear bra... and no more scratches, and u cant even notice it
Skeeterflea 04-02-2005, 03:37 AM I think that having read all the posts submited to the website the consensus is... our paint sucks.
I've noticed a few people with the polar white xB saying they don't see the problem with the paint. /Shrug Maybe it's because fine scratches don't show as easily. Most of my scratches show up as white.
ksl_redsoxfan 04-02-2005, 04:40 AM i wonder if you wet sand and throw more clear coat on it, if it will be thicker?
When I went to purchase my xB the dealer offered a teflon package for a couple of hundred bucks. They said that it would garuntee me from any scratching and I would never have to wax my car again. I declined because I am broke, but has anyone heard of this? (PS. I didn't do a search yet, because I really don't care)
xbfreak 04-03-2005, 05:39 AM the sealant is on my car... it looks a hell of a lot better imho, and man does it shine...:) also it NEVER has to be waxed... EVER... I may still wax it but it doens't need it...
Sciond 04-03-2005, 11:20 AM now that I hard to fathom^^^^^^ having worked in the autobody business

So you have done an expert paint analasys on sub$15,000 cars? :blah: :blah:
Shoof 04-03-2005, 11:21 PM Thundercloud is the best color to hide scratches, IMO
dAbOkZ 04-04-2005, 02:00 AM my car was dirty once and on the trunk i wrote"show me your boobs" and till now i can see my finger prints of where i wrote it . when ever I lift up my trunk i can see it. damn cheap clear coat.

scottwood2 04-09-2005, 12:16 PM Detailed my xB yesterday. I have more chips and scratches than any car I have ever owned. The car is 9 months old and I always park in the back on parking lots to avoid door dings. It is also washed often, mostly by hand.
I have had many cars over the years and when I sell them I always hear comments on how good the car looks. I take care of my cars. I have a 98 Chevy pickup that the paint looks better on. I am talking about how tough the paint is here.
I have also owned many small cars over the years and I never noticed the paint being sub par to more expensive vehicles. Maybe the upper end vehicles have more coats of paints and a slightly better finish but my lower end small cars still held up well. I bet I have 30 to 50 small chips in the paint and a lot of these are on the side. I have a bug deflector so the hood is good.
aedwards 04-09-2005, 05:31 PM would getting a paint job on the car make it more prone to scratches or would it help the problem entirely???
totallyboardz 04-09-2005, 07:53 PM So, is the teflon coating they do at the dealerships worth it? The price from my dealer was $600. I declined it initially, but if it will help prevent some scratches and chips, it would be worth it.
xBeepbeep 04-09-2005, 08:11 PM dang...............
all i ever think when i see my car is "its so cute sitting there in the parking lot...." then sigh and go wherever....i need to start looking at my baby....ya'll freaking a girl out...guess i need to start parking it wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy far back too..................................
