Fujiz_xb 03-18-2005, 12:42 PM just buy a bug deflector.
StevisXb 03-18-2005, 12:46 PM I have one small chip but it's low and near the black dots so it's not too bad.
Captain_tC 03-18-2005, 01:09 PM ...
Captain_tC 03-18-2005, 01:10 PM I have multiple chips and an 8 inch crack. My car is only 4 mo. old! The windshield is getting replaced monday. Anyone know what the good aftermarket brand names are? I did some quick googles and mostly saw LOF, PPG, Carlite, and some others. Any tips?
It seems to me that scion windshields are a bit on the delicate/fragile side and cant take much abuse. *Just my personal oppinion, so all you flamers dont even start.*
cmdxb 03-18-2005, 01:32 PM so hey mofo capn tc....not flaming but we had a non scion windshield and it was not that good either, stick with OEM Toyo parts man..
chipzxb 03-18-2005, 02:46 PM I have about 6. I am waiting till winter is over then it time for a new. You know is I replace it now, the very next day bam!

May I ask what non scion windshield you had? I am still doing a bit of research. But I think I will end up going OEM through my insurance w. deductible. I just cringe at the thought of having my insurance pay for anything. I feel like its gonna come back to bite me when its time for policy renewal.
BOXED_N 03-18-2005, 03:03 PM Bug shield might not help that much since the rock have more force than a bug.
I doing my best to stay away from trucks. But once in a while I have no choice.
I just hate that freaking ....Tink noice every time a rock bounces on the glass.
I really don't want to change the glass, but eventually I might.
In Florida if you have Comprehensive insurance you don't pay anything :relief:
I just don't want to put a claim.....yet.
By the way, most dealers don't use OEM windshields, they don't even due the
install them self. They will be calling the same guy you'll be calling!!!!
mattxb 03-18-2005, 03:14 PM Yea, I have crazy chips in the windshield, not to mention all the little pits etc....
The chips also extend to the paint on the hood, front, sides etc...... its really starting to ____ me off. ok I'm done.
FrankenScion 03-18-2005, 03:15 PM I've had my box since August and have had 1 rock chip. I just got it sealed and you can hardly tell it was ever there.

I am aware that dealers dont service their own windshields, but I thought they only sell OEM parts. If the windshield isnt OEM, what are they charging $1100 (not including installation) for? Aftermarket tC windshields are around $150.
scottwood2 03-18-2005, 07:40 PM No chips in 10K miles. Do have a bug deflector. I do have a stone chip just above the windshield.

Welcome to the DEALER WORLD!!
The only difference between OEM & the Aftermarket is that it won't say toyota on it.
I don't even know if it says that now.
1BADXB 03-18-2005, 07:57 PM It's only been 8 months and I'm on my second windsheild. And I had to wait 3weeks for a windsheild from Toyota. :tap:
Captain_tC 03-19-2005, 12:56 AM Actually OEM test their glass specifically for that car model, and they take into account safety factors related to crash and the strength of the glass supporting the roof from caving in during a rollover. So basically there is some math that goes into OEM.
Aftermarkets dont do any test because they are not car model specific, however they still have to comply with american glass standards. But its not car specific.
Thats not to say the aftermarkets couldnt be as good. I guess you just have to try it and find out.
Had one 10 inch crack after a rock hit it, a few weeks later it was about 16 inches(!) Replaced the windshield shortly after that.
I don't this it's a quality issue as much as it is the upright windsheild is less likely to harmlessly deflect an object than a normal sloped windshield would.
ssdm7683 03-19-2005, 01:51 PM Replaced the widshield once already & so far, so good, on the new one  !
Scion-Doll 03-19-2005, 11:44 PM I have 2 big chips and long crack in the middle on the driver's side and quite a few chips on the passenger side due to my commute on 680.

TREX212426 03-20-2005, 10:39 AM i had to replace the windshield on my box 2 weeks after i bought it. I was still living up in ny and a damn dump truck kicked up a rock and CRACKED it right down the middle. I was cussing all the way home. I went with safelite auto glass. They are nation wide and have lifetime warrenty. good job no wind or leak probs.
Chimmy3 03-20-2005, 12:46 PM Actually my windshield got nailed about a month after I got the car.. driving around since then ... I've come up with the theory that being closer is better than being far away.
far away the rock is on its downward trajectory... so when it meets your windshield, the full force of the collision is applied. Whereas, if the rock strikes the windshield on its upward trajectory, the force of impact is greatly reduced (since the windshield is sloped upward and the rock is traveling upwards as well)...
of course the problem with being closer to cars is... you'll get more hits along your bumper
theappe 03-20-2005, 06:24 PM the xB is just one big square taget for debris! :-/
Xbilly 03-20-2005, 06:36 PM i have about 350,000 microscopic pitts, it look sandblasted
