Default At the track last night

I am sure this has been posted 100 different times, but I could not find it and I did not want to try to hard to. I took out a stock 5 speed tC to the track last night. It is my dealerships car, but I wanted to see what it could do. I was hoping for a little better, but the car was stock and I have never run a 5 speed down the track. My questions are how can you get a better time without doing anything to the car. Is there a better way to shift that won't hurt the car. Give me your feed back so I can beat my best time from last night next time I go. Here is the time slip info:

R/T- .357
60- 2.383
330- 6.939
1/8- 10.682
MPH- 66.39
1000- 13.850
1/4- 16.555
MPH- 82.92

That is straight off the slip. I am looking for info to improve on these times while not modding the car at all since it is not mine. Thank you in advance.

What RPM's were you shifting at? Try shifting at 6K-6.2K to catch the next gear at an optimum point in the power band.

Could Call, J, that's exactly what I was going to say.
Push the RPMs a bit closer to where the powerband for the
car.

I wonder what the xB would look like on the slip. I'd like to
find out, but I hesitate to thrash mine like that.

That is what I thought about but did not know about where to shift at. When I shifted from 2nd to 3rd, the RPM's went down to about 3k and it felt like I stalled the car. If there was a way I could keep that up a little bit, it would definately help. I ran an auto xB last night to. I have the slip for it too. It has cold air and a full exhaust if I am not mistaken. It ran the best auto xB time I have seen yet when I ran it. Here it is:

R/T- .061 (awesome)
60- 2.856
330- 7.765
1/8- 11.841
MPH- 59.98
1000- 15.343
1/4- 18.363
MPH- 74.14

The manual is obviously a little quicker. I will work on the shifting next time I go and let you guys know what happens.

Your RPM's dropped to 3K shifting from 2nd to 3rd? That's a track time killer. Definitely have to work on shifting faster in addition to hitting the right RPM range, you'll be sub 16 no prob.

Look below:

As you can see at 3K RPM, the HP output is about 80. At 5K (the RPM's you should be at if your shifted at 6K), the HP output is about 135. That additonal 55hp will help greatly.

You are not bursting my bubble at all. I thought it was a great reaction time. I did better than most of the other people out there. I did not realize that you would be so good at this. The car I was using for the xB time was a customer's car that asked me to do it to see if his car was shifting at the right time or not. You also said that .500 would be an AWESOME time, but I hate to tell you that .061 is better than .500

Easy guys, There are some tracks that start at .0 instead of .5. This isn't NHRA we're talking here.

actually on any open race night its always .500

Its the different style trees that are .000 I forgot what they are called... but they dont use that on open track days or any race event open to the public

On the Autosports Forum, check the Track times sticky. There are people posting less than .500 w/o getting red lights.

One thing is to get used to driving a stick better, and get the most grip from 1st gear without spinning your tires, this means being finesse with the clutch.

yeah.. a lot of tracks start .000 instead of .500.. also.. work on your 60 ft times.. 2.3 isnt completely bad but you can do better.. on my old car i had two different types of tires that were like crapped out and i did a 2.3.. try letting off the clutch slowly and when you feel your tires bite then push on the gas and your 60ft will go down and then your ET will as well

oh and try lowering the tire pressure, that will help out with grip

As many people have said, some tracks have a .000 as perfect... He would have known if he blew the light on his timeslip... To put this one to rest scan or take a pic of your time slip so some people in here can see that not all tracks have a low .500 reaction time and that some really do start at .000
