Gas Mileage? Bad?
well my gas light came on today... and i looked at my trip meter, and saw that it only said 214 miles!! I mean if you did the math, that's less than 20 mpg, this is no 8cyl beast, so why is the gas mileage so low?
It's a new car... only like 1000 miles on it, how come it's so low? I usually shift around 3000 rpms and a few times i might have gone about 5000, but only a few times, why would this effect the mpg so much? Or is there something wrong?

I noticed that when I first got mine, the gas mileage looked rather low. I'm now at 5,100 miles and I can say my gas mileage has definitely improved. I'm by no means a conservative shifter, but I've noticed my MPG has improved since the engine has been broke in.
Well the light does go on well above the slash. and The tank isn;t really empty until the needle is on the LIGHT not the R. I just got 350 out of a tank and i drove it pretty hard. About 26 mpg I hear alot of people complaining about that and i'm confident when i say that i think it's just because the light goes on really early.
How long have you had it? i noticed my MPG didn't start going up until the 3rd or 4th tank right around 1000mi

that's my 2nd tank... right now it's right above the last line. But it's still not the mileage i thought. But I'll wait a few more tanks and see if it improves, thanks for the reassurance guys!
Well Ive never had a tank less than 25mpg, and my best was 27mpg. I shift at about 4K, sometimes 3K if Im putting around. I also redline it several times per tank too so I dont drive really conservative... I always get more than 300 miles a tank where I usually put in about 12 gallons... Also I use regular gas.
I usually fill it back up when it has a quater of a tank left and usually its around 250-270 miles so i figure i can prbably squeeze another 50-60 miles.
Does it really matter, regular, plus, premium?

The best I've managed is 360 miles on a single tank and I was able to put in 13 gallons of gas putting me at about 27.7 mpg with mostly highway driving. Most of the time I fill up around 320 @ 25 mpg. I've got an automatic which is rated by scion to get better gas millage than the stick.
Manual 22/29
Automatic 23/30

i have about 1500 miles on my car. after about 4 tanks so far, i'm still getting 21-23 mpg mostly all city. this sucks. i blaim it on winter. i have a 5 speed, i always shift at 3000 except for 4th gear, i shift at 2500. i use 5th whenever i can, but it doesn't help much because it's not responsive enough, when you are under 50mph, it doesn't do anything but shake the stick and slip against your clutch.
this sucks, my previous ride, corolla, got like 30 mpg city, easily

My car has 4600 miles on it. I consistantly get 30-31 mpg, today I came close to 32. Combined St Louis City/highway 44 (which can be pretty stop and go at rush hour near 270 and 141).
I shift around 2700 rpm on normal commute days. No need to race to work. I have an hour commute to and from work, it doesn't matter if I rev up and race, I'm just going to get stopped in a little while from rush hour traffic. I mostly go the speed limit also, as I can not afford another speeding ticket.
I don't see how you can get bad gas milage in this car, its great.

I have 10k on my '05 5 speed. I consistently get 29-30 mpg around town. I shift in the 4-4.5k range. I have a K&N Typhoon and custom cat back exhaust. I also run full synthetic oil. I always fill up when the light comes on and keep track of my mileage. I think that is pretty good mileage. I know men lie about three things, their mileage, their paycheck and the size of their +++++. No BS
Hmm, my avg tank so far is 17mpg, though 90% of my trips are less than 2 miles long in city conditions. I'm a pretty spirited driver though but under normal driving conditions, I usually shift (or try to make it shift, due to AT) at around 3k-3.2k rpm.
Worst tank = 13mpg, best tank= 21-22mpg (90% highway)

The car is geared low, which causes it to get worse mileage. I would rather have the quick pickup than the extra mpg, but that is the choice you make. It either performs well, or gets good gas mileage. When you are starting with 160 HP (which is good for a stock 4 banger, but not exactly a v
you have to run it at higher rpms to get the performance and response. I usually see about 19 - 22 in the city and about 28 - 30 on the highway.
Hey sorry to thread hijack but does anyone see a longer last in Higher Octane Gasoline when they pump?...I feel as though i get more mileage when i pump Premium..not that I would since gas prices are over 2 damn dollars now but..just wondering.
