I had a bit of fun today after installing my new TRD SS & Bushings, and after being rear-ended I knew this was one mod I totally had to have. Full credit goes to Thomas who wrote up a bit about this mod in the xB1 forum (and I will be doing this for my '05 xB in due time).

So the item I purchased is the IBF4 from comagination.com and you can find it right here:

Only thing we need to learn on any new vehicle is which wire does which, since there is never an obvious red/black wire setup for power/ground. So I had to guess and do some poking around to learn how to make this work.
Thomas provided a great wiring diagram for the xB1:

The G-W wire on our car is the Yellow wire, and the W-B is the Brown wire.
In order to get to the wires for the 3rd brake light only (you can opt to make all 3 brake lights flash but that is another location to tap), you will need to remove the inner black panel on the hatchback. It is held on by plastic pop tabs, so...you guessed it, just yank (damn Lego cars). You will also need to get 2 black pop tabs on the sides, but it comes out easily.
When the panel is pulled out, you will see this:

The 3rd brake light is easy to find, but here is a closer look:

Easiest way to connect the IBF4, is just like the wiring diagram shows. Tap the blue and red wires coming out of the flasher into the yellow wire on the tC, and tap the ground wire as well. Then comes the pucker part... cut the yellow wire in between where you tapped. I don't have any photos of this part, mostly as mine got all sorts of ugly due to some other issues (don't have someone test the brakes, if that person doesn't know there is a clutch on the car, just don't). There is PLENTY of room for the flasher itself to sit near the brake light. A small square of 3M double sided tape will secure the flasher to the hatch, and you are good to go.
