i've been reading this forum for months now and finally decided to join, im set to get me a Scion but i cant figure out the xA or xB, i'd love the tC but i barely can afford it.. i fell in love with the xB the moment i saw one, but i like the xA too because its more conventional. the only thing that bothers me about the xA is the speedo AND the way the dash is designed, the way it slants downwards/upwards[depending how u look at it].. does that not make u feel like the view is above your eye level? has anyone have problems with that or is it just me?.. i found the xB's dash to be alot better simply because its leveled, and it has a little tray over the glove box.. it looks anything but ordinary. and i would occasionally like to find a empty lot or a long stretch to exercise my car.. have fun wit it ya know! the xB doesnt look like its up for that kinda job.. i'd be scared to do anything with the box unless if im just going straight.. :nails: but on those lines i guess a xA is better because it looks more aerodynamic than the box.. help me out!!

I'd go with the xA. Have you test drove both? If not you should that could make your decision right there. They should both go about the same speed, I mean it's the same engine right or is it just the HP that's the same?

the box is great, but im falling for the xA too, any xB owners here ever played around with their BOX in a open area? donuts, hand brake, high speed turning? i doubt the box can handle that.. thats y im looking at the xA, but the xA's dash bothers me somewhat.. any xA owners feel that way? the dash is so funky with the slant, and from the pictures it looks like it takes up alot more space than it should.. :eyebrow:

I'm honestly not sure what you mean about the dash in the xA. Yes, it does slant, but I've never even really noticed it. The center mounted speedo takes all of about 5 minutes to get used to. I love my xA. It's a fun, sporty little car with loads of personality. The boxes are nice vehicles, but I'm glad I went with the xA.

I like the radio placement of the xA, more upfront where you'd want it if you twiddle knobs, or would also make a much more comfortable viewing angle for DVDs.

If you are on a tight budget, Id say get xA. If you do decide to go xB, then you should give the tC some more thought because the tC is not that much more than a xB. I think your best bet is to test drive all 3.

if your talking about alitle joy riding in the xb ya ive done that. the xb can handle it great. just make sure to turn the traction control off. but you should still drive both of them to find what one u like but remeber to turn th traction control off then ur driving the xB it make a HUGE difernce.

If the dash thing is your only holdup, just get the xA. Like Matt said. . .It takes all of 5 minutes to get used to the center console. It will become as natural as the old school orientation very quickly.
Plus, the xA is sportier (IMO). . . and from the sounds of your posts, you seem to be looking for a sporty little ride you can whip around!
Good luck in your quest either way, joining the Scion family is the way to go, no matter the model!!! :P

I love both the xA and xB, but I say go with the xA. The only reason I suggest that is becasue the xB's are everywhere now. I see 4 or 5 every day and I always see soccer moms driving them. I see maybe 1 or 2 xA's a week and it seems to be younger people in then. So go with the xA and be an individual.

Go xA.. Although the xBs are unique in their design, everyone has an xB! Get the xA cus it's also SLIGHTLY faster than the xB.. and the aerodynamic look can only help you go faster :)

Seriously.

haha damn alot of the xA owners stood up on this.. i dont hear too much feedback from the BOX owners! but im thinking the same way as u guys are suggesting, the xA is VERY NICE for the price.. that alone put me right in the xA's corner because i dont have alot of money to spend.. im working hard to save up every penny i can find.. and Kzuki is very right on the fact that the xA is a bit sportier than the BOX if i wanna whip it around occasionally.. the xA is alot more unique because i've only seen 2 around NYC, 3 Boxes & 6 tCs so far.. its alittle more exclusive in terms of the popularity.
but the BOX is so cool too, its bigger and more features.. keyless entry, trac & vsc.. and the rear "cooler" :silly: i know that those are not neccessary but i'd still like to have those options on hand.. its alot more conveient. and the fact that the xA has little[or no] cargo space makes me hesitant.. i kno the BOX is just a little bit more but it looks to be something extra than the xA.. i kno that i can always flip the back seats down but then what if im carrying a few friends ya know?..
ARRGGG i wish i just had the money to get all 3!!!
its so hard to decide.. but im gonna go to a dealer this week to look around some more.. i went last summer and i almost fainted at the site of all these beauties! and i only had about half an hour to check things out.. but this time imma make it a day at the dealership!
choosing which scion is the first step, the next hardest part will be choosing the color! :tap:

Dude, go to a dealer and test drive. You shouldn't be in here asking us, we're all biased to whatever car we have displayed in our profile.
So, you have the power to make your own decision based on a test drive!
THE POWER IS YOURS!

yes sir u are very right! regardless im gonna test drive each one to see how they are. but it cant hurt to just get a few opinionz ya know? im a VERY indecisive person.. so i gotta have the suggestions to push me on the bandwagon. i know each model is GREAT and has individual advantages, but i just wanna get a feel for what im gonna get into. and nothing better than loving owners telling me what the car is great for and how good it has been to them.. makes me feel alot better knowing that im not in the dark about anything. it matters to me

I have both; both have advantages. I think, that for overall space, the xB has it by far, natch. But the xA has better overall mileage, which may mean something in today's world...
This is really hard to decide. Maybe that is why I have both; I couldn't decide on just one.

Test drive both, perhaps.
They are more alike than different.
The advantage of the xA is aerodynamics. Period.
You won't feel crosswinds as much in an xA and it will be a little quieter on the highway.
The xB sacrifices aerodynamics, but rewards you with a back seat bigger than most mid-sized cars and SUV's, traction control which is great for weather,
stability control which will help you avoid an accident, a better stereo/speaker set up and a cavernous interior that can swallow a loveseat or a giant projection TV.
I suspect people choose the xA mostly because of superficial reasons,
i.e. they think the xB is ugly, because there aren't really any practical reasons when for barely $1000 more you get more than $1000 in options
(traction control, EBD, stability control, 2 more speakers) and the roomiest interior in any compact car (not bad for a SUB-compact!)
It's worth noting though, that you can get the TRAC, stability and EBD in an xA if you get one of the Release Series models,
but the RS is still just as tiny inside. That may not be an issue for you if you rarely carry more than one passenger.
I carry multiple passengers all the time, so the xA was out of the question. Not to mention safety is an issue in a small car and "survival space" is a key factor in accident safety.

We drive around quite often with 3 or 4 people in my xA. It is not tiny inside. Infact, I'm amazed at how roomy it is inside for such a small car.

^^^ I agree. . . I drive around with multiple adults in car (pub crawlin') quite often and it is suprisingly roomy inside. Never run into any problems! 8)

The xA is VERY roomy inside. I don't want to have pull up the damn spec sheets to prove it AGAIN, like I did in previous threads, but we have equal (if not slightly more) interior room than an 05 Civic and Corolla (not counting trunk capacity). So the argument that the xA is small inside is totally junk. However, in comparison to the xB, the xA is smallER. Significantly smaller. Face it, the xB has a HUGE interior for its class, and well, for most cars in general. This is exactly the reason why I grew to love the xB. But I do own an xA, and still love it with no regrets. . . but sometimes I wish I owned both an xA and an xB.
Nothing give me more pleasure than being able to toss around this cheap economy car as if it were something faster and more expensive. It's still nothing close to a sports car, but it sure feels like one. They are just plain fun to drive (coming from someone who's driven porsches, Lexuses, Bimmers, and tons more). The xA is a very rewarding drive for the price (in a 5spd). My personal opinion, I could never own an auto xA. . . but that's me and not you. You have to make up your own mind.

I beleive you about the specs, don't worry. I'm not hating on the xA. I'm just saying that there are dimensions they don't measure.
I'm sure that if you take a tape measure in the xA, the legroom matches up with a Corolla etc, but SIT in both cars and tell me which FEELS roomier.
All I am saying is this: I personally felt cramped in the car and I'm not a big guy. I don't care if it has the same number of inches between the bottom of the rear seat and the back of the front seat, to *me* I felt like all sides of the car were inches away from my head when I sat in the back. It made me feel claustrophobic.
It could be that I'm just not used to cars that small. I'm sure it is comfortable for many people and the numbers and stats are impressive, but you don't drive and live with numbers and stats.
All I'm suggesting is that the guy sit in all the seats and get a feel for it and make sure it's cool with him and do the same with the xB, consider the differences and THEN decide.

yeah. . . compared to the xB, there's no contest. And it's very hard to measure what you are talking about, but I do understand what you mean. . . but for the record, I have owned a Corolla as well, and my old roommate (usually my designated driver) owns a brand new 05 Corolla. After riding in both cars for awhile, the difference doesn't seem to be so big. . . I think the seat fabric also has something to do with it. . . like how dark colors seem smaller, and lighter colors seem larger.
