Default Intake improvements?

Any auto owners have an intake installed? If so, short ram or CAI? Just wanting to know if there is an ample power improvement, as in passing, merging etc. Also, how much should a short ram or intake run me + installation?

My friend has one installed on his auto. From what he says, you wont "feel" a horsepower gain. But that's not saying that there isn't a benefit to having one. I still plan on getting one for my Auto.

Got AEM on my auto, there is a little power improvement, and sounds better. Throttle seems a little quicker to respond as well.

Sounds good, thanks for the help. I might eventually go with either the short ram or CAi.. but which one performs better?

I've got the Injen CAI and I think it greatly improved the auto. I wasn't dissatisfied with the power before, but the CAI gave it a lot more responsiveness in the low rpms. It helps both at starting off and also I find myself not having to make it downshift as often to get going when on the freeway. It didn't seen to increase the sound, which I didn't want, but maybe I'm just not hearing it. Also, you can remove the secondary pipe and make it a short ram, which I plan on doing at some point just to test it.

Definitely worth the money...IMO.

Thanks, that really helped a lot actually. in the near future i'll definently plan on the CAI.. but i still don't know the positives of having a short ram. Can someone briefly explain to me why the short ram is in most cases less expensive than the CAI? I''ve never been told what exactly the short ram does, thanks.

A typical CAI has more piping than a short ram so that's why the price is different. The CAI for the xB puts the filter right down in front of the driver's side front wheel, the short rams put the filter in the engine compartment where the air is theoretically hotter. The downside of the CAI is that if you were to get into a deep puddle or in extreme weather events, there's a possibility of sucking enough water to hydrolock your engine. Basically, if you suck enough water in one shot to fill the space between the piston and valves, when the stroke comes up, it will be a sad day for your engine. The AEM CAI offered by the dealer has a bypass valve to guard against that. I was just in some pretty heavy rain today and didn't notice any problems. And if you live in a really wet area or just don't like to risk it, you can take the secondary pipe off and run it as a short ram so the filter sits right between battery and the engine.

The Injen "short ram" puts the filter right behind the driving light. It's NOT in the engine bay. The piping is VERY direct, not convoluted and contorted like the AEM setup. The Injen is cheap, puts the filter in a safe and cool (temperature) spot, and the piping is short and direct. It's the way to go, IMO.

Not for the xA, it will be in the engine compartment next to the engine where it will suck in hot air. There is a lot more room on the xB for it to go in front of the battery.
