How do you disable that God-awful beeping sound that the car makes when you pull the handbrake?

uhm release the handbrake?

uhm release the handbrake?

-_-;

I want to utilize the handbrake while the car is in motion for cornering. I don't want to hear it beeping at me as I do this.

Are you cornering, while on trays??? Please tell me you're not doing dumb stuff out on the street.

Not on a street, no.

well...the cable that connects it the handbrake to the dash is easily accessible if u lift up the panel...where the cup holder is...

i'd assume ud have to create some sort of bypass to always have the dash think its down

or u can always try the dealership? i believe they have the tools to turn off the seatbelt beeping. maybe e-brake too

Panel where the cup holder is?

I'm not near my car right now, but is there a special tool required to remove it or anything? I just want to make sure that if I were to somehow rewire it that I wouldn't short something out in the process. I'm sure the dealership could handle it but then I wouldn't be learning anything in the process. :)

the plastic stuff in the middle, including the cupholder

it just pops out like lego

its pretty clear inside there...everything is tucked away nicely, so the lone thin cable (i think its light green) coming out from the handbrake shouldn't be hard to find

disclaimer: the wire is right there...but i dont know what u would do to re-wire it...just telling u its there. do what u want at ur own risk

Appreciate the tip! Is there a tech manual or anything like it that I can pick up to show wiring diagrams or anything like that?

Why would you assume something like that? The reasons why I want to disable the beep should be less important than the fact that I'm looking for some information on how to do it.

Drifting in a FWD car? Hmm... I'd like to see video of this cornering you're doing. Good luck stopping the beeping.

It (drifting) can be done with FWD, but actually I was working on a 180 (which isn't technically cornering, I know).

Drifting in a FWD doesn't really help for speed, though. :)

OMFG. I'm not even going to be an as* and flame you for how incompetent you sound.

But, there is a little red switch in the center console that the hand brake pushes down when it's off. All you need to do is find whatever way you think is best for you. Either its just taping it down or something more complicated. It's an easy fix tho.

Do you even know what it means to flame somebody? Because you just did. Seriously, I don't know what everyone's collective bad attitude is about here.

So doing this on a tC wouldn't require any wiring at all?

^ You sure it's on the tC2? While I haven't specifically looked for it, I've dug around in there a bit and didn't notice anything.

@Clockwork: I guessed what you were trying to do (I haven't found any drift or racing teams asking for advice on here), and I wouldn't recommend it. I had the opportunity to spend some time learning those tricks and, while they're fun, they're hard on your car. From a purely practical standpoint, if you're going to try to learn an aggressive driving maneuver, start with the J-turn.

Good luck with the beeping though. :)

Thanks. I'm not trying to learn for racing or anything like that which is what people probably assume, but everyone seems more focused on the why than the how.

^ Absolutely. It's a kinda random question and most of us have no idea of the answer, so rather than sit quietly and read and learn, we judge you based on our assumptions. :)

Basically, we can't burn witches anymore, so we go here.

i actually saw a civic trying to drift in a parking lot. he gained speed (i wouldnt call it going fast, it was a civic) then pulled ebrake and turned, slid maybe 5 feet and did it again.

wow. lol

when you lift the brake, the switch hits metal and sends a ground signal through that wire to turn on dash light and whatnot.

unplug the wire. from the brake assembly. should be that simple. i havnt tried, but if theres no ground signal being sent through the wire, then you should be good

i would just think it would be better to leave an important safety feature intact

A beeping sound is an important safety feature? On what planet?

I'm not disabling the brake.

Thanks, I was thinking it would be something simple like that. Right now I'm stuck on simply getting to the brake assembly without causing any damage to that drink holder area.

Go to RedlineGoods.com and look up the instructions for the '11 tC e-brake boot. It'll walk you through getting the whole center console apart.

I know your not disabling the brake, just the soundto let you know the brake is on so you don't try to drive with it and possibly result in mechanical failure posing a risk to you and anyone around you. But that's fine, I don't know you so I won't be at risk.

Critical THINKING skills. Develop those.

If the brake is on then I put it there for a reason. Driving with the brake on... what kind of savages do you know? ;)

Critical social skills. Develop those. lol

For everyone in this thread with a bad attitude: You are exactly the reason that people told me that Scions are for whiney Asian kids that want to "rice out" underpowered cars when I purchased one. Don't be part of the problem, be part of the solution. If you don't have anything constructive to say then press on.

I'm not experienced when it comes to doing things with my car other than driving. I wouldn't think of doing something like this on my primary vehicle, so I'm probably just making this process out to be more difficult than I need to make it. :)

MightyP

^ All sorts of questions spring to mind with that revelation!

Anyway, it's quite true. The tC is a car made of legos. Snap in and snap out. This has got to be the easiest car to work on I've seen. At least for a car built in the last 30 years.

So, that said, what is your primary car? What do you use your tC for? Is this your first Scion? What kind of driving experience do you have?

One bit of info I discovered is how many tC owners are all about show with no go.

Anyway, welcome to the forum. Generally a good community here with helpful people. The people getting into it in this thread, including you, are new to the tC2 area of ScionLife, so don't take this as the norm.

My primary is a M3 Sedan. I've always been a big fan of Toyota products and this tC is my first Scion, I got it as a project car not knowing that it would be the first of the 2nd Generation tC models, so now I get the dubious pleasure of waiting for all the aftermarket parts to be released for it. ;)

Actually I was gonna get an old Supra but it was a lot easier to just go to a dealership and pick up a tC than hunt down a decent Supra on Craigslist or something.

Edit: PM sent concerning driving experience.

KidJustin
08-10-2011, 03:05 PM
instead of waiting for aftermarket parts...

go contact companies and tell them they can guinea pig ur car...free stuff!

that's what i'm doing...have to milk it while the car is still new

Clockwork
08-10-2011, 03:12 PM
Guinea pig it, eh... doesn't sound like a bad idea but if they slap some kind of turbo on it and cause my engine to spontaneously combust that'll void the warranty. In hindsight, maybe a less expensive Supra would have been a better idea, but I do like the tC. :)

Clockwork
08-10-2011, 03:15 PM
Actually my only real regret in buying a Scion tC is that I didn't wait until 2012 and instead buy a Scion FR-S. I've been following that one since before it was announced as a Scion model and it looks sexy.
