Default Going to check out an used 04 xb. What shall i focus on?

Hi everyone. I'm new to scionlife. Especially interested in xb.
Just located a used 04 xb and am going to check it out this weekend, what shall i look at? What could generally go wrong as a 04 xb with 74k mileage.
BTW autocheck report looks good and scores 90 (average is 58-74)

KBB price for private seller: Excellent 9105; Good 8555; Fair 7655
Edmunds price: 7163
How much should pay to private owner?

Hey, welcome to the site.

As far as what to be out on the lookout for, I would just go through all the stickies in the various sections to find what to look for.

In regards to price, xB's have recently seen a surge in resale value. If you come across an intelligent owner who knows this, you may very well pay every bit of 9-10k. If you're lucky, you might be able to get it for ~7k. Good luck.

PS Possibly less if you tell the current owner to keep those God awful wheels. They should have never been forced upon a toaster!

Ask how often they flushed the transmission. If they stare at you blankly, immediately knock off $1000 from the price (seriously).

Don't forget to do a compression check!

i picked up my 04 in march. it had just a hundred mile under 71k on it then, and i gave him $7k grand for it. at first he said he had been trying to get $8k grand for it cause that was blue book value, but he kept going down on it. he offered to gimme it for $6500, but i felt like i was beating him, so i told him i'd give him $7k grand for it.

then i look at the blue book a few months later with 80k miles, and the car in good condition private party was like $8400!

i'm enjoying. getting 34 mpg at least with 75/80 percent highway. i've gotten 39 with 90 percent highway once with ethanol free gas.

now the xb has some things you might not be familiar with. it's a noisy car, has a lot of wind noise, and sometimes road noise, isn't the smoothest riding car, and as you can see from other threads recently myself, and a few others have a slight problem with the air box vibrating, and moving around especially when in gear, and harder when it's hot, or when the ac is on. it's fine with me though i'm not complaining about it.

with 85k i'm just about to turn that on monday or this weekend if i use it. i've had no problems. no problems at least that required repairs. a few odd noises here, and there, front end makes a couple weird noises now it could be the brakes though now and then. especially when on gravel or grass, but no clunks, or pops, or clicks. steering is aligned perfect, and it's nice, and tight. needs tires soon cause these ones are dry rotted. belt squeaks a little especially when the car is cold. exhaust is a little loud. could have a minor leak. aside from that, and all that is no problem at all it's a great car.

i'd recommend this car to anyone especially if you like good gas mileage, and don't mind the look of the car.

Thanks to you all! Finally got the car!
@jbod I guess used car price just climbs up so much these days. Finally got the price down to below 8k. Done a prepurchase inspection, which indicated a possible leak in power steering fluid reservoir. Acceleration is somewhat slow but the mechanic said it's normal with this model. Hope that won't be a problem. And everything else turns out fine!
Driving back home without a tag, I was pulled over by the police and had to explain..
