hey .. question on CF hoods .. whats the difference between single and double sided hoods? (besides the obvious) i know the double sided ones are more expensive but is there a big advantage? is there a big quality difference? racing solutions is selling a single sided one for $245 plus $130 shipping and fiberfx is selling a double sided for like $350 ... plus shipping .. btw why is the shippin so much $ for that? guess its just big .. oh well .. thanks for the info

Well supposedly its sturdier and its more of a show quality type thing... as for shipping because of insurance and size on it.

Its mainly for show... however the underside of our single sided hoods are very nice. The box the hoods ship in are quite large and because of the fragile item that is being shipped, it costs more.

there ireally isnt a difference.. CF is a strong material to start off with. if you get in a car accident, if it cracks, its a gonner.
doublesided hoods jus had more weigh and mainly for show

technically speaking, it's not really a cf hood. those hoods are just fiberglass w/ a layer of cf and clear coat. true cf hoods cost well over $1,000 and are made of 100% cf.

i agree. carbon fiber is a strong fiber. but in the case of an accident. its usually the resin that cracks rather than the fibers breaking. the cool thing is that even though the resin cracks, the hook flexes back to its original shape.

well who has 1000 dollars to spend on a hood when you can get the same effect w/ one thats much cheaper .. i know the quality isnt there and technically its not the real thing ... its still considered a CF hood

I was actually considering ordering one of the colored CF hoods from Import Precision (http://www.importprecision.com/carbon_fiber_hoods/carbon_fiber_hood_mainlist.htm#carbon_fiber_hood_colors). I think the red would look nice on a SSM. It would be great if they could actually apply the red to an oem lip spoiler as well to match. 8)

Yea I want a blue/black one but I want it for the hatch too so I'll probably go with fiber fx.
