Hey guys, I am currently looking at purchasing a 2012 to replace my 08 that was totaled out last week. I have noticed while trying to price things out that the TRD CAI has just up about $150+ since i purchased it for my 08. Does anyone have a 2011-12 that is sporting an intake option? I'm not married to the TRD it was always just so easy to let the dealer handle it, but I am open to other options. Any input would be much appreciated!!

your going to get alot of people saying search and blah blah blah... but as far as intakes imo trd is way to expensive. I have injen and i love it! Descendant intake looks pretty sick and if your going for just a short ram the weapon r is a good choice and u can find it pretty cheap. Takeda intake according to few people have given check engine lights so i would not go that route. good luck on your search

I'd drop the new TRD intake setup from the list of things to get. More on the "to don't" list.

Injen makes good intakes. Weapon R is another pretty good one. Depends on what you want. I've installed the K&N Typhoon on my buddy's xB2. It's a great piece.

However, I have the older TRD CAI. I love it.

No to TRD, you can get a more reasonably priced CAI and put the money you saved towards something else. I am running the Fujita on my RS7 and I love it, plus the price was easy on the pockets. Here's a vid of how it sounds... if ur into that sort of thing...:lalala:

my problem is that it seems that those no long work on the 11-12, are any of you sporting an xB beyond the 2010s?

The new model is listed on the accessories page for the xB but it looks like you cant build it into the scion because it can no longer be rolled into the financing. It has to be purchased separately and installed by the dealer or you can do it yourself. The site has it listed as $475 and when I talked to my dealer it looks like its about $615 installed. I am going to pass on it for now and see if any other options come up soon. If not I will purchase it from probably trdsparks and do the install myself, seems pretty straightforward. Hope this helps anyone who is in a similar situation!!!

FWIW -- this sub-forum is dedicated to F/I, and adding a CAI or SRI to an N/A engine doesn't convert it to F/I. Forced induction is either turbo or supercharger, so the next forum back ("Drivetrain & Power") is the right place for this question and thread. Also, think I already responded to this question elsewhere in this forum. (Yep, different poster, but also in this sub-forum -- the wrong place!)

I Have the weapon R secret weapon. Love it! Off the subject though, when I was installing my intake I noticed that there was a secondary filter permanently attached to the air box lid. Does anyone know what that is and can you run it without it. I was thinking about taking it out of my wife’s 09 xB. Also what is the extra air box mounted to the intake tube closer to the motor?

I just put a AFE CX2-Pro Dry on my 2012 XB this weekend.
Easy install and well put together.
I took a couple of pics, will post LTR.

Would an 09 Weapon R SRI fit 2011-2012 XB?

My ebay cai works great, there's even a whole thread on it.

I want to get a good CAI for a decent price, without voiding my warranty. Any suggestions?

the secondary filter is most likely the carbon filter that prevents gasses and emissions from going out of the intake. The extra box might be the silencer. (the small box?)

Whether a CAI will void your warranty can be debated. It could cause trouble for you at a dealership unless it is the TRD intake which I don't believe is worth the money. Ask your dealership maybe, just an idea.

I paid $65 for an Ebay intake that has worked fine for a month. I believe all of the intakes are pretty much the same except for the filter and how the intake goes around to the bumper. I believe some go next to or over the battery. But if you can justify spending $300+ on an intake go right ahead.
