Default Maint. Code

Hi all.
I recently had the maintenance code pop up on my dash.
I completed my oil change myself and i attempted to fix the light on my dash by the methods that are posted on here and other scion sites. it didnt work
i have a 2008 scion tc.
and i did the method they say, 1) make sure its on Trip A 2) turn the key off and hold down the trip reset buttong 3) turn the key on and wait for ---- code.
Well when i do it, it says something else and there is no countdown. it shows a code that has a few letters then -off, and then id do it again and itd say -on. but thats it. just off and on, and ive tried setting it to both and driving and the code still sits on my dash. should i unhook the battery? or am i doing it wrong? or is there another method for 2008 and up scions?

Put it on the regular mileage thing, take the key out of ignition, hold down the trip reset, put key back in and put it on "on". That should let it count down always works for me. I have a 2008 as well and that's how I've been doing it.

That's why it didn't work. What thread did you look at? All the ones I've seen have the correct method.
