Driving straight into a 20mph wind, the "BOX" struggles to get up to 65, then 70 , then 75, then........WTF ........I floor it, still can't get to 80 !!!! :tap:
Finally, I barely make it to 80....just ease up on the pedal, BAM, back to 70, then 65, .....just another BOX experience...

I know what you mean. Traveling with a headwind, the rpms stayed at 3500 for 70 mph.

My xB doesn't need wind for that!

whooo for a 5spd. although i couldnt make it to 80 when i was going up this incline. stayed at 75 through the whole thing flooring it in 4th. hahaha

Yep , AT alright....you should see the drivers behind me ! They thought I was just taking it easy, when I was STRUGGLING to get to speed

im fine in chicago the windy city..but sometimes i get some trouble. but there is no wind that the fuji cant handle.

throughout the rolling plains of nebraska i dont even have that problem :ttth:

i love 5 speed. i love intake. i love lowering. hell, i love my box
i think for you that might be an excuse for supercharged fun :lalala:

Have you ever looked at the front of your car? Not exactly the most aerodynamic thing on the road.

hard to go 80mph straight on a windy day

i thought about this a while back when people were talking about the massive differences in top speed they got for the xB.

If a massive headwind can slow you down that much... imagine what a massive tailwind can do...

oh and... did you try popping off the O/D so you have more power without the O/D gear?

I know what you mean. Traveling with a headwind, the rpms stayed at 3500 for 70 mph.

3500 @ 70 is normal uphill, downhill, wind or not...

that's why on the highway.. i've become the DRAFTING KING......

Hell.. i went to visit my friend in Atlanta.. and on my last fillup I drafted with a trucker (I asked permission, pulled up beside him) and I got over 45mpg... was awesome..... Riding out 75mph at like 2900 rpms...

Anything over 3k rpms in the box kills....

this may be a dumb question... :lalala:
but what is this drafting that you speak of?
from context i assume it is something to do with big trucks and better gas mileage
but please explain?

Drafting is where you let the vehicle in front of you break
a "wake" in the air, and you basically ride in the pocket of
calm air behind him.

Just like bike racers who ride really close behind each other,
just like NASCAR how they stay close and in a straight
line, just like ducks how they fly in an echelon. It's all to
let the one in front of you and break the wind and the air for
you, making you more efficient.

Most people don't realize or think about things this way,
but we are nothing but a different type of fish walking along
the bottom of an ocean of Nitrogen and Oxygen. And that
ocean of gas is slowing us down with "air friction".

drafting = tailgating lol...

actually I wouldn't advise drafting behind a truck.. you can't see around them... and those air brakes will stop them pretty quick (so long as it dry pavement).

Don't know the technical definition but...
Drafting is pretty much riding/driving in the area of broken air behind a car (the larger the car you are behind, the better and easier it is). Since your car meets little to no wind resistance, your engine doesn't have to work as hard to maintain speeds. Behind VERY large objects travelling at high speeds (like a truck) a vaccuum can form behind them... which can actually PULL you to a limited degree.
You can see this in effect in almost all racing sports.. but most notably auto racing and cycling.

edit: oh raven beat me to it lol good answer

Must have been a big incline.

I've been able to just make it to 100 on a slight incline in 5th gear. You have to be patient, build your speed steadily.

I can do about 118 on level ground, if you give me a few minutes to get there. :relief:

Wow, that blows--so to speak! HAR HAR!

Wait a sec. You've got CAI, headers AND exhaust and it still won't make 80 with the headwind??!?

Thank god for your mods, eh? Sounds like you'd be going backwards without them.

But Does the AT really sap that much power? I wouldn't know; we got the stick (now and always).
