Anyone using them? What is the verdict?....Some forum said they don't do a d*@#& thing , except last for 120,000 miles then U have to break them off to get them out!!

They have a longer life. That's it. they are no harder to remove than any other plug. Don't expect any power gains and you won't be disappointed. Don't believe any silly people that tell you they will increase power.

the only time these plugs will help is if your running forced induction other then that u wont see any improvement accept maybe .5-1 mpg improvement and better strart up and smoother idle. well worth their money none the less. you can find a full set for our cars for like what? under 30 bucks?

I'd save your money, and just buy regular plugs...

My brother in law gets these things free. I was thinking about getting him to get me some but I just haven't yet. Think it's worth it if they are free?

I thought this was discussed before. I know it was, the thread was prolly deleted due to inactivity.

Its funny how someone that says they are a mechanic will tell you that the stock parts work best. If that was true, then why are there so many aftermarket parts out there? Also, if that was true then why aren't all Nascar guys running off the shelf A/C Delco plus or something. Or, why is it that we use high end (special) plugs in our drag cars?

Speaking as a Mechanic myself, and a race proven driver and being in tune with my car...able to find the problems that the Dealer can't and fix them! I have these plugs. Yes, I did notice a smoother idle, and a little better gas milage. As far as all the hype on the imporved HP, and all those gains....its bull. The fact is the size of the electrode and the elements the plug are made of do provide better spark, and as we all learned in High School auto shop. Better spark can improve many things...I.E. gas milage and so forth.

Thats my peice.

Not that this topic hasn't been beat to death, but I have a few questions that some of you more informed guys could probably help me out with. What plugs are the NASCAR guys running and why? What special plugs are you using in your drag car and why? If you actually noted an improvement in fuel economy, do you think this simple change would have escaped the Toyota engineers, and would the added cost of irridium plugs (nominal, ND has been bedfellows with Toyota for a long time) not be a wise investment to increase C.A.F.E. ? Always curious and willing to learn. :lalala:

What about a better coil pack then? Or thincker gauge wiring where needed. If the coil pack is only putting out so much, how can iridiums be that much better? Anyone put their cars on a dyno and have the sheets to prove it? I mean actual dyno like what Modacar and Racetune have, not "butt" dynos.

Oh, and we're talking OEM 1.5 liter not 800 hp Roush or whatever V-8 engines.

always use anti-sieze! your heads are aluminum, and the thread bodies of spark plugs are steel, where dissimilar metals meet, there is corrosion. Some stores even sell single use packets... 99 cents can save you a lot of potential heartache.

i just installed regular denso plugs and felt the smoother idle, the main reason i nstalled them was to get rid of exhaust pops which they did. not bad for 1.69 a pop plus antisieze which we sell at work for .99 only took a few minutes to do.

why would anyone in their right mind leave a set of plugs in ANY vehicle for 120,000 miles? That's like believing that Dex-Cool coolant is good for 100,000 miles.

Scott17

Actually the irridiums will go 120k without a hiccup. Thats what they were designed for. As for anti-seize, you must remember it is CONDUCTIVE, so if you happen to get it on the insulator or boot you will surely get a misfire and possibly carbon-track the rubber.(which means new coil-pack) Denso and NGK plugs ( the ones Toyota use) are nickle plated so seizing is actually not a concern.

Most of the improvements are prolly because the plugs that were replaced prolly had ridiculous gaps in the plugs, ie worn out and needed replacing.

personally, i dont care for bosch products but we sell them at work so what can you do......as for those plugs, i have had a few people tell me they are worth it but if you are going to spend that sort of money just buy iridiums

Dave, you forgot to warn about abby normal muffler bearing wear too. Nothing worse then having a muffler bearing go out!

I am already running iridium plugs, b/c I need to replace them anyway, so will replacing the coil pac and or larger wires help?
can you get new plug wires to replace the stock? I am new to the import moter stuff,
so any explanation will be helpfuff. Thanx

WTF Over??? Have you seen where the coil pack sits? It's right on the plug, so larger wires won't help...Unless you want to change what the Toyota Engineers optimised to an accel coil pack and wires. Talk about going backwards...

thanx for the info, and no I did not know where the coil pact sat, thats why I was asking for some help with this. I am used to working on an older small block v8 witch is tottally diff from these motors. So will getting a better aftermarket coil pact do any good? does it do the same as up grading the plugs and wiers on a small block?
thanx for REAL info and help.

All kidding aside. I don't think you will see any appreciable gains for the amount of work you would need to get this to work. I would stick to Intake/Header/Exhaust. So far I have 2 out of 3. I will be getting a muffler soon. Injen SRI/Megan Headers/DC Muffler is what I'm going for.

Check this article out.
