Can an S pipe cause a CEL P2238?
I purchased an S pipe which measured in at 2.6". My tC has thrown CEL and the code is p0402. Therefore either a) my primary cat (the one in the header) is bad or; b) there is "excess air" passing through the new S pipe. I've found a used primary o2 sensor for cheap. The problem is that i don't wanna by a used sensor, because that could be bad as well. Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions on remedying this issue?

did you put the s-pipe on and you got the cel,if so that means you had to change the 02 sensor...the s-pipe wont cause the cel,it would be the sensor that triggers the cel,if the cat was bad,your car will stink or be loud
An aftermarket S-pipe shouldn't cause a CEL since it is after the primary O2 sensor and you have the OEM primary cat.
Further investigating your code it is an excessive Exhaust Gas Recirculation flow which seems to be rooted from a vacuum problem versus something an S-pipe would induce.

Yeah, theres no leaks, ANY leak would be audible. Hmmmm, the vacuum leak is a possibility, i did have a LOT of hoses off when I took off the turbo kit. I'll start there. FWIW, the car idels and drives perfect. No hiccups or stutters of any sort. As far as upgrades, all i have is CAI in S Pipe. Thanks
to the OP, are u sure ur code isnt p0420?? which would be
1. Gas leak from exhaust system
2. Air fuel ratio sensor (sensor 1)
3. Heated oxygen sensor (sensor 2)
4. Exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly (TWC: Front catalyst)
5. Center exhaust pipe assembly (TWC: Rear catalyst)
ugh, i totally typed the wrong number. The code is P0420... mi mal. Yeah, i've just checked for vacuum leaks, discovered the vent that goes from the crank case to the CAI wasn't clamped down, so i put clamps on that. Secondly, I took off the breather from the crank that goes into the intake manifold for the turbo. Third, I replaced that with the original hose, reconnecting the crank case vent to the intake manifold. Fourth, I replaced the primary O2 sensor (the one in the header).
Now, after driving it a bit, everything seems fine, but the moment i hit WOT the light pops back on. I've gotta go back to Autozone to check and see if its the same code, so I'll do that sometime this weekend. I've gotta figure this out because the car needs to go to emissions.

Try the ecu reset but I'm sure you have already done so, anyways replacing the primary 02 was not going to be a fix there are codes specific to the primary o2 my money is on your rear o2 is on it way out so it is reading slightly outside its parameters and thinking the gases are just rich enough to through a cel
So i just got the new code read after replacing the O2 sensor and buttoning up a few other things. The NEW code is P2238 and NOT P0420. P2238 is specific to the primary O2 sensor not reading correctly, I believe. So is it possible that the brand new O2 sensor is bad, or is it something else?

I just e-mailed the seller to either get a refund or exchange. I know the primary and secondary O2 are functionally different, but are they visually similar? I only ask because maybe they got mixed up somehow during packaging?

O2 sensors are the same, you can install the back in the front and so forth. The front checks to see how the car is running, while the 2nd checks for cat efficiency. But why the heck would you cheap out on an o2 sensor and buy it off ebay?

The primary O2 sensor is a "sort of" wideband sensor, while the secondary O2 sensor is a plane jane O2 that you could get from any auto parts store. The primary sensor from the dealer is quite pricey, so I decided to look elsewhere.
As far as why i "cheaped out" I mean, why not? The vendors on ebay obtain the same products that would be placed in your car from a mechanic, its just cheaper for folks not to stock inventory. Anyway, any assistance you guys can provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Looks like you did cheap out, seriously that O2 you got from ebay .. Just take a look at all the "compatible vehicles" listed on just that ONE O2 sensor listing... seems very generic to me.
A 3.0L v6 o2 would definitely not work for a 2.4L i-4 lol, etc... you didn't notice V6 engines listed as well as i-4 engines ?? That right there would already tell u "This ebay o2 sensor works anywhere" .. yeah right. lol
just find one from salvage yard or find one on ebay for a true fit. you are correct though, its more wideband like for the primary.

Fongyz. Just because it can fit V6's, V12's, v92's etc doesn't mean its not right for the tC's motor. They all will tell the same information to the ecu.
Certainly the OP has proven that ... this specific O2 sensor doesn't work as claimed by the seller on ebay... so it's not right for the TC motor... lol
I'd rather be 100% sure it's for the 2AZFE engine than risk the hassle of buying and returning ...basically risking a hit or miss on "universal" O2 sensors. :X

Again, reading is key, i didn't say "all."
Not to be rude, but maybe you should read up on the tC a bit first. Our cars have an O2 sensor that is more advanced that the traditional O2 sensors. That i know.... my question is more so related to its physical appearance and not its functionality.
Very few cars, if any, actually use wideband o2's stock.
Wrong again. As stated above, the O2 sensor not only measures the difference is gases pre and post cat, the primary is also more advanced than the secondary.

Yes, it is a possibility that the sensor itself is either incorrect or simply is inoperable. However, you do realize that the 2AZFE motor is in a number of other vehicles. Additionally, a number of other parts are transferable between platforms. So who is to say that a sensor for an engine isn't transferable. Either way, if it doesn't work i'll get a refund and it didn't hurt to try a cheaper alternative.
What concerns me is that one code went away (P0420) and was replaced by another (P223
