So this will be my work in progress post, my current questions will be at the bottom of this, hopefully my car won't be out of commission too long...

1) I began by unbolting the coolant container


2) Then moved that off to the front


3) This is the belt tension-er bolt (or whatever its called)


4) Used a 19mm 6-side socket, put it on the bolt and attached a 2ft pipe for leverage. TIGHTEN by pulling toward the front of the car. It will move maybe 45 deg then stop.


5) Now belt should be loose enough to pull off


6) The s/c pulley is held on by a single 14mm bolt. I dont have a picture but this ones tricky because as i loosen it, the pulley will spin. So i attached a oil can removal tool over the pulley and tightened it so it wouldn't move. Then i pushed hard on the socket wrench to loosen. I took the bolt off, and spun the pulley manually and got a screech noise I didn't hear at first, but after a few more spins is went away. Anybody know what happened or if I F'ed up the pulley or shaft?


7) The s/c pulley just slid off but this little rectangular piece also came off, it looked like it was supposed to sit between the groove on the pulley and the groove on the shaft. At least I hope that's the way its supposed to be otherwise i broke something. Anybody know?


Took off bolt holding some wiring to the S/C mount


9) Took off these two bolts, one allen, the other is a 6 side socket, from the the empty holes in this picture near the idler pulley



10) Loosened these 3 allen bolts on the shaft to blower but.. it got stuck on the manifold shield.


11) This bolt connecting the shaft mount to the engine is SUPER hard to get off! After two wrenches and a pipe it finally came off and you can begin to wiggle your shaft free (lol). The horseshoe bracket can be maneuvered out along with the allen bolts holding it in place.



12) I removed the intake hoses, BPV/BOV, recirculating pipe, airbox, and battery to make things easier


13) Unplug the hose that goes from the top of the engine to your S/C intake, starts here

14) Find the oil feed line, goes from the engine along this blue rubber/metal line to the blower

Take it off the blower. Mine had alot of oil on it, must be leaking somewhere... how to fix?


15) Disconnect the radiator hose, watch out for coolant spillage if you haven't drained any coolant. Mine kinda went everywhere. One hose clamp on each end hold this sucker in place. Mine was really hard to get off, hasn't been touched in 5+ years. Also disconnect your af sensor plug so you can move it out of the way.



16) Remove the 3 large allen bolts holding the blower to the tranny bracket. I believe they were 8mm allen.


17) Now the supercharger blower should be free to move around, only thing i had left holding it was the hard metal fuel return line. Its held on by a rubber connector to the blower.
As i pulled up on the blower i pushed down on the metal return line

I was left with this on the blower


1 The blower is now out of the car!


Anybody know the answers to the questions I have in 6 & 7? I will continue more progress tomorrow.

 

1. No power tools needed.
2. No need to drain coolant, you will need to drain the oil when removing the s/c hard oil return line from the oil pan.
3. Pictures won't help.


I would recommend putting the bypass valve back on and see if it still makes the noise before removing the whole supercharger.

Search for other threads to help do a rebuild if needed.

 

Thanks! I will try removing the bov and putting back bpv and testing that first.

If problem still there I will take off the blower and shaft. Does that require oil drain also? I'm not replacing the oil pan and lines just yet.

Thanks, just want to avoid draining oil if I can.
