Default Car Audio and Music

Question number 1.
has anyone thought of using a portable hard drive for there music through the USB hookup? I have no clue if it could work but maybe? any input?

Question number 2.
I dont have an xB yet...around February hopefully but is there any room underneath the rear seats to be able to put 2 12's? and what are some good subs that will hit hard? always been a fan of kicker comps but not sure if they are some of the best... any input?

Depending the headunit you have, you can easily do that with a portable usb drive.

There won't be room under the rear seats, front eats yes but I wouldn't recommend it but some people on here have put them there. As for sub I am running 2 shallow well 12" pioneers RMS 500 watt hooked to a alpine v power class d amp. Sounds icnredible and has a great sound for just about any deep sound. Plays rap and rock extremely clean and its a bass you can feel.

I am running it at 3/4 power and I hit 127db, not looking to compete and I know its not to much but its a extremely clean loud.

As for the rear seats I put my amps underneath there. Perfect spot for it especially once you cut a little bit of the plastic away from the underseat storage in the back. Mine are in the trunk btw

I like that set up but are you not worried about messing up your sub? you should at least get the sub guard just in case (imo) But i was looking at doing the spare tire sub and read up on how everyone did it...but what i dont get is what they used as a guide to build the box...any light on that? and how much did your set up run?

What do you mean? Those are speaker covers.

My setup ran about 300 bucks i did however also get a headunit. What I used to make it fit perfect is the foam in the trunk traced that onto a piece of mdj and cut it out. What I would recommened is cutting out the lip that holds the foam in place and running it a little lower just build something for support to hold it up. that way you can use your stock rear trunk cover.

I bought all my stuff on ebay new, Would of spent a hell of a lot more if it wasn't for ebay. My one sub alone would of cost 250 when i got 2 of them for 160 and the amp for 150.

BTW those speaker covers kicka$$ for the sub. Very sturdy if thinking of going similiar route as my car I recommend those covers highly.

oreo!!! explain to me the proces of how you set those in the floor. i want to do the same. but i need mine to be flush with the floor. i carry about 200-300 pounds of stuff sometimes for djing. so it needs to lay flat or flush wiht the floor (with the covers) also where did you store the amps? if you but a cloth or blanket on top of the subs does it really kill the sound?

Ok the foam holder that lays over top of the spare tire. I took that out and traced it onto a piece of MDF. then took a jigsaw and cut the trace out and then built the box to that piece of MDF. Should have to many fitment issues as long as you trace that foam piece just right. The only I can see happening is if you box dimensions need to be larger. I am running shallow well subs so I only need a depth of 3 inches.

If I have to change anything the lip that the foam sits on I would of cut away and built a little stand on the floor to keep the box lower. As my box sits currently the subs sit higher then the black cover that comes with the car. Its the thing that latches in and locks and relatively sturdy. But you can make it work setting it on the plastic holders in the car.

If you follow this link you can watch a video at the bottom of what I am talking about.

http://www.newscionxb.com/131-audio-...33-subtub.html

You will see he took the foam piece out and what the foam is sitting on is where my box sits and it is attached with liquid nails. It is all but immovable. It basically becomes one with the car when you do it that way.

I stuck my amps under the rear seat and have never had any tempeture issues, now granted I am running a class D amp so that helps with heating but when windows are down air goes right under the rear seat to them and keeps them cool. I just trimmed away part of the plastic under the rear seat to make the amps fit perfectly while still retaining a mostly stock look.

There it is just sitting in there

Then I found the best speaker covers for it

and where my amp is at

If you go the route I did with covering everything up and leaving the speakers exposed you could easily put a nice carpet over it to protect the subs some more. The speaker covers are INCREDIBLY strong as well. I wanted to wrap my box in suede just to make it look nicer, but if you wrap it in carpet then build a piece to cover up all the ugly storage bins it looks nice as you can see in my first pic. One other possibility would be to build the box in the center like in the pics in this post then take your trunk piece that locks in and cut holes in it so the speakers cover poke through just a little bit. With those speaker covers you could put just about anything in the trunk without an issue. I hope that I came across clear in this post with everything?

not really we built mine around the air tank and fiberglassed the bottom of the box to the floor of the car to get all the air space we could get out of it.

Looks real good chef

Frozone, its honestly extremely easy to do. If you know how to use a saw and half decent math skills you can build the box in the box in a day

I dont know about online, for help.

If you want a clean bass go with either a 10 or a 12. Anything larger is just gunna be to deep and just not a great sound IMO unless at shows. Most subs you get will give you a diagram and specs on how the box needs built. I LOVE my pioneer shallow 12s. They hit HARD but a very clean sound. Not distorted or anything just nice clear and crisp. A good amp however goes a VERY long way for sound.
