I bought my hotchkis springs, and LOVE them. However, I am currently getting Ksports.

SeveredVegan also did the same thing. He absolutely loves his ksports, and I can't wait to get mine on!

k sport coil or springs?

Sorry, Ksport kontrol pro coilovers. The ride height is adjustable without changing the springrate on them, which is a huge plus for those of us who want a performance aspect.

18x9 offset

I have 16" konig backbones that I stripped and painted.

The hotchkis springs are GREAT, just about perfect ride height for dd ( I RARELY scrape on anything) and give a great improvement in handling. Unfortunately no one makes, nor are they going to make a 3 way adjustable shock/strut for our cars. That is why I am getting the Ksports.

Here is my car on the hotchkis springs:

You should talk to Cionide about offset and poke, he will get you set up perfectly.

Yep. I like my KSports, but I'd still go BC Racing if I had to purchase new. But that's me.

My thread with my fitment and stuff:
http://www.scionlife.com/forums/showthread.php?t=207760

I have more pictures, but I have processing to do.

Also, depending on the offset, 18x9's should be easy to do. You'll have to roll the rear fenders and flip the front fender liners inside the fender lip.

i was thinking 19 x 8.5 +40 offset. would that be crazy rub? will i have to roll fenders?

xseveredveganx
10-27-2011, 03:28 AM
Depending on how low you go, you'll probably rub the front fender liners a little.
Also, depending on how low you go and tire size, you may have to roll the rears a little bit just to not chew tires. Not a big deal at all. I'm sure there's someone in your area that can do it.

I ran my TRD 19's (19x8 +48mm) with 235/35R19's prior to my Rotiform setup. I had to roll my fenders just to flatten the lip, no pull. There's a spot on the rear by the bumper mount I had to flatten out and also the spot by the rear doors and 'dog leg' that is thicker than the rest of the lip.

Why would you go BC if you had the choice?

xseveredveganx
10-27-2011, 04:32 AM
BC seems to really cater to the scene and will hook you up with higher spring rates and valving, free of charge. They don't even charge for their 'extreme drop' setup, which is shorter springs and inserts.

They're really good for the money. I haven't rode in anything with BC's yet, but there's some Mazdaspeed3 guys out here that run them and love them.

BC FTMFW!!!! Seriously I heart My BCs. The ride alone is worth it. For the money they CANT BE BEAT!! I need to see about possibly getting some shorter springs. (to my wife's dismay)

Look into the Swift brand coilover springs for shorter springs. I know that's the route i'd go.

Could even up the spring rate a tad, which is what I would do.

Next time you have wheels off, snap some pictures of those warlocks. I'm curious what they look like and stack up in comparision to other brands.

So the Ksports ride rough, or are the spring rates NOT stiff enough for you?

Compared to the hotchkis springs+sways/oem struts, would you say its much stiffer (15%,25%,45%, etc)?

The current sale on Ksports is VERY difficult to pass up..

xseveredveganx
10-27-2011, 10:06 PM
Honestly hard to say, numerically. The dampening is adjustable, so it's all subjective. Being more into stance, I want the ride stiffer so I don't fudge up fenders. That's the only reason I want a higher spring rate. Well, that and you can use a higher spring rate with the Swifts because they don't get stiffer with more compression.
I have mine set pretty stiff, but can still go stiffer. I like the ride better than the Hotckis, this is even prior to my current wheel set up.
You'll be happy with the KSports. I'm just one that has to tweak everything, can't leave anything well enough alone.

i ran tein s-tech springs when i first bought my xB but ultimately the drop was not enough. i did the air ride with mini trucks and was burnt out on it, and always like static drops better. i am currently on D2BD coilovers which give me the drop i want. I had 20s with the springs, but trying to find wheels that will not rub on my current drop. ride wise, the springs were pretty close to stock and the coilovers are not  post up shots with your ksports, i almost ordered those but waited for scion pro to make theirs....

@Slamyoda hows the ride of the d2bd coilovers compared to your drop springs? was the coils more harsh or about the same as your drop springs? thinking of picking them up and just wanna get your input on the coils and can it go lower then your first pic? thanks in advance

hey, sorry it took me so long to reply. yeah, the tein s-techs were pretty much the same ride as stock. still had the front end dive on braking and rear drop on accelerating. ultimately couldnt stand the raked looked of the coil springs....

as far as the coilovers are concerned, the car was totally different. the ride is extremely stiff! there is zero front end dive on hard braking and they have the same ride on accelerating as drag coils. there is pretty much no suspension travel. i scrape everywhere  Can't expect there too be 3 or 4 inches of suspension travel, when the exhaust hanger is 2 inches off the ground. if you want a nice 2" drop all round and not have to worry about scraping, get springs.....if you want to slam the heck out of your car, spend a couple weeks taking the wheels off so you can dial the coilovers in perfectly, then get coilovers. if i didnt NEED to be this close to the ground, i would have kept the teins. and yes, there is at least another inch of drop left on the coilovers. theoretically i could drive the car to a show, crank the coilovers down and set the car flat on the ground, and then raise it back up to drive home. it would take a good bit of time to do, but that is how low they will go. Nice!! :icon_razz:

Darn still debating if I wanna pick them up because I want that low low. But I wanted the feeling of drop springs cause I'm running df210 and I scratch so and so at Places . If you ride over a bump do you bottom out or no? Thanks again slamyoda.

if you like the drive comfort of springs, don't get coilovers imo. i thought i could tolerate the harshness of coilovers but it was too much for my liking so i switched to bags and couldn't be happier. although i'm now looking into an air over set up...

Being that low, you HAVE to sacrifice something. It's not going to ride like a new Cadillac. However, you don't have to have the dampener settings that high if you don't want to be quite that low. Having them turned down a bit increases the comfort and makes the ride a little more plush.
If you start getting super low or want to run aggressive wheels, you'll have to turn the dampening up. I still prefer the ride of my coils to springs. I've just had to change how I drive a little.

Style> comfort.

Whatever you want to, really. My xB is my DD and I have 19's... don't scrape, but I'm not really that low. Front lip scrapes a bit pulling out of some driveways.

If your budget doesn't warrant the price of coilovers, then run springs.

xseveredveganx
11-28-2011, 01:31 AM
"Best bet" is subjective.

I still vote coils. I waited 6 months to get the Hotchkis springs, even though DF210's were available. Thought about getting coils then, but didn't get them. Waited until about 8 months ago to finally get some. Should have got the coils from the beginning. But that's me. It's all on how low you want to go. All the DF210's I've installed feel pretty decent. My Hotchkis springs were a bit stiffer. My coils are stiff, but bareable. I just have to slow down for bumps in the road and dips.
If you get coils, just get the bumper sticker that reads: "be patient, I'm lowered".

BC is my opinion. I haven't used them, but would really like to. I like what they've done for the stance-oriented community and their service seems top notch. Their product is very nice for its price point, as well. The D2BD coils are also VERY nice. I love my KSports and haven't had an ounce of problem with them. I just don't like the lack of the provision for locating the ABS wire and brake line. The brackets they include are very flimsy and the wrong size for the strut/knuckle bolt.

Import Image Racing is where I would get BC's from, or any of the ScionLife vendors. Please check with our vendors first. They support us, so we should support them! :)

I was wondering where I was going to put my abs wire/brake lines....

xseveredveganx
11-28-2011, 06:24 PM
*sigh* zipties... that's what I've done. As much as it pains me to do so, I feel it was my only option at the time. I've been thinking about cutting off the stock provision off the OEM struts, welding on a piece of strap steel, then welding that to a washer that I can put on the knuckle/strut mount.

slamdyota
11-28-2011, 07:01 PM
that's one more thing good about the D2BD is the oem style mounts for those.

Honestly, I'll probably just tack a small bracket on there. < 2 min of work to keep my brake lines out of the way. For what I paid for them, I definitely can't complain.

xseveredveganx
11-28-2011, 10:33 PM
Did you get the Kontrol Pros or the GT Pro? GT Pros have a steel perch, so you could have someone weld on the stock mount.
