View Full Version : Uninstalled Kaminari hood pics
ProPain 03-24-2005, 12:17 PM Whenever I was trying to help my girlfriend make a decision on whether or not to get an aftermarket hood, it seemed like there was a severe lack of GOOD pictures of the hoods. So, basically I'm just throwing these out there for anybody that might be wanting to see the quality of one of these hoods straight out of the box.
I will say that there are some minor imperfections that will require the hood to be primed and sanded on a little, and one edge that our body man said was, "A little too sharp," but overall it looks very good. Also, notice the latch on the hood. It is backed by a large metal plate on the inside which should prevent it from being ripped out by some fluke of aerodynamics.

Darkness 03-24-2005, 02:27 PM I like that hodd a lot, but not unless it is part of a whole body kit.
jmiller20874 03-24-2005, 02:35 PM Sweet hood. Wonder how the increased air flow will help something like the WeaponR Short Ram. :ponder:
dmikon 03-24-2005, 03:28 PM I really doubt it would increase any flow seeing as how the scoop is facing the rear of the car.
rolstc 03-24-2005, 03:43 PM air can still flow in there though!!!
tckurt 03-24-2005, 03:49 PM Its a nice hood just a little pricey.
VanillaRice 03-24-2005, 03:50 PM Isn't it designed to pull hot air off the engine bay?
dmikon 03-24-2005, 04:04 PM I don't think any decent amount of air will flow into it. As you are driving, the air is coming in from front to back, that is why hood scoops are typically facing the front.
It might lower the engine bay temperature by like 0.5 degrees simply because it is an additional hole for hot air to come out of.

That's the whole purpose of the reverse cowl hood on the EVO8, so I'd imagine this would be the case here as well. If it lowered the engine compartment temps then the Secret Weapon would be more efficient, in theory.
Lower air temp = more hp!
Traditionally forward facing hood scoops are for force feeding air onto a top mounted intercooler or forcing air directly into an intake. Reverse cowls pull air out instead of forcing air in.
hahaitzskippy 03-24-2005, 04:41 PM its actually meant for the radiator. the air comes in from the front and up and out the hood.
thats why you see this style hood on JGTC cars for better cooling of the radiator/IC.
dmikon 03-24-2005, 04:45 PM I think that unless you race a lot and your engine gets really hot, there is not going to be any difference except for the looks.
Beantowntc 03-24-2005, 07:38 PM does anyone actually have the full kit installed? any other pics other than the one's on kaminari's site??
jmiller20874 03-24-2005, 08:36 PM does anyone actually have the full kit installed? any other pics other than the one's on kaminari's site??
Ditto. Anyone?
hahaitzskippy 03-24-2005, 09:17 PM RULETKA
he has the whole kit installed except the hood i believe. PM him or something
CHICO 03-24-2005, 09:46 PM That hood is perfect for turbo applications. I would really love to see the full kam kit on a white Tc. or any other Tc for that matter.
jrv2000 03-25-2005, 02:00 AM if it rains a lot will water run into the engine? From the pictures, it looks like it would drip right in
jmiller20874 03-25-2005, 02:47 PM The only way water could get into the engine is through the intake. As long as no water enters your intake, your fine. If not, you'd have EVO's blowing up left and right.

Sorry, I should clarify what I meant. What I was trying to ask is if water can run into the engine compartment, I didnt mean inside the engine itself. Still though if the water still drips into the engine compartment it couldnt be a good thing. I would think that after a while you would start having problems with electrical systems and rust. Could anyone clarify?
jmiller20874 03-25-2005, 05:13 PM Oh ok, well in that case, do you drive your car in the rain? Your engine bay gets wet regardless of what vents are on your hood, rust shouldn't be a problem especially since most of what's under our hood is aluminum or plastic. The electrical components were designed to handle this stuff, so unless the front of your car is completely submerged, they won't be affected either.
dredge38 03-25-2005, 05:19 PM i want that type of hood for my xb
SupaWhiteTc 03-25-2005, 06:18 PM Yes air flows in the front and up and out through the hood carrying out the hot air. It is not made to suck air in like and actual hood scoop. Thats a pretty sweet looking hood though.
ProPain 03-25-2005, 07:50 PM If you do a search you can find a Silver tC with a full Kaminari kit. I ran across it while searching for different hood possibilities.
jmiller is spot on as far as what this hood will do. 8)

a lot of times you get what you payu for. kaminari makes an a great product
ToBeeyach 03-25-2005, 10:33 PM i was (well... still am) thinking of getting that hood. I emailed them last month and they said that they're gonna have this hood come out in a carbonfiber version... Unfortunately, i was not given any kind of date. It is a sharp looking hood tho.
falcon9094 03-26-2005, 08:33 PM hows the fittment, does it fit like it is stock?
