Did you use two speedlights for that? Almost looks like one is placed behind you at your feet on a low power setting.

Yeah the hoodie sets it off. If I didn't already have that one I was gonna go buy one lol. I only used one flash mounted on the shoe. Bounced it off the ceiling at maybe 70*. It lights up the wall like that every time I take a pic with it as the backdrop. Plus the vignette enhances and rounds the light behind me.

first two were easy using a model to wear the mask...the self portrait proved to be more of a challenge.

I like the purple background and the way it's lit. What lens?

lulz i went crazy last summer and painted my walls purple left the ceiling white.
i bounced my flash off the ceiling creating the blacked out eyes and the white spot behind me. the lens was the 18-105mm kit lens set at 18mm set as low as the tripod went

im trying to convince my self that asking a professor to pose before class with the mask on in a lecture hall would be a good idea. then again the hard part would be to convince the professor :tap:

Speedy, the hard part is asking the professor, IMO.

Thanks man. The trick with b&w is to edit it as if you were leaving it in color, then put the b&w layer on top. That way the hues and tones will be the way you want it because the colors are interpreted differently from each other when using the PS layer.

^Nice shot it gives me an idea for one tomorrow but I'm not sure how I'm gonna pull it off. I find these portraits to be easier than normal ones because it takes having to get the right facial expression out of the equation lol.

Lol Agreed. Don't have to smile or look cool. Mask does all the work. How do you go about focusing when doing timed self portraits? That's my biggest challenge. Since I don't have a remote I find myself placing an object where my face would be and then focusing, then starting the timer.

All of mine, with the exception of the one I just posted, have been taken using the remote. I was too lazy to run back upstairs to get it. For the one above I stopped down to f/5.6 to give myself some room to play in the focal plane. I focused on a leaf then went and sat on that leaf lol.

i even got 2 since i knew replacing the battery would cost more than a new one.

the camera does a great job auto focusing when u use the remote...assuming your not at f1.8 u should be fine.

I like it just the way it is. I think its perfect. I didn't want the focus to be on the mask at all. Just wanted it to be there.

I like it because when you do see it it's like "oh snap" rather than forcing you to look at the mask.

when u put it that way, i see where u both r coming from. ive been focusing to much on the actual mask. i want a picture of a large crowd of people and 1 person in the mask. kinda like a spot waldo thing

I need to take a photo for this today. Just gotta come up with an idea...

^ Felt the same way. Was at the park and had a buddy wear the mask. I just keep it in the car now just to get pics.

I took this with my new 70-200 f4L. You can't really see the difference, but I snapped a few photos and this thing has great bokeh, even at f5 at 200mm.

Enjoy the lens Jasper. My Sig 50 came in today. Love this lens. Shooting with both I feel like the Sig can almost stand toe to toe with the 1.2L.

I've been trying to tell myself not to get the new nikkor 70-200, and to save for boost....but....I'd much rather have the lens if I'm honest.

I've gotta find one of these masks!

Lenses will hold value better... That's a plus.

Bump on crappy school semesters. As soon as this semester is over, I'll be participating in a few of these.
