Default CM fx500 vs CC Stage 5

Just trying to get info on each clutch, who has used what, how they held up, and their exact power ratings. They both come sprung if desired so thats a plus, i need something to hold around 400wtq.

The Stage 5 Clutchmasters is only mean to last about 2000 miles. I speak from experience.

lmao. I've seen the CC stage 5 be advertised for "strip only" do you think it could be THAT harsh on street even sprung?

I have the clutchmasters fx400 with the fidanza 9lbs flywheel since 2007...lots of dyno done to it was at 350whp... never had problems...even that it was still harsh especially in traffic/daily driving. It bites real quick, but youll get used to it.

Don't get clutch masters or competition clutch. If you want 400hp and driveability, buy a vette. Otherwise get ACT street organic... wont chatter, rated 398 . But if you race, get 6 puck.

Its not a matter of being streetable. The splines on the clutch disc wear.

I am running a clutchmasters pressure plate from their stage 5 kit with the ACT 6 puck sprung disc. 500wtq no slipping

ACT 6 puck sprung with extreme pressure plate. Held ~500wtq for almost 15k miles with periods of that being closer to 550-575wtq. This is including being on slicks and MT ET Streets. Ended up breaking a spring window - not sure if it was due to power or just a random failure - didnt happen during a pull - it was actually while driving around after doing a trans swap :/ Originally ACT had this clutch rated at 599tq, but has since downgraded it to 499, why i have no idea, its exactly the same cluth.

Ill be honest, I replaced the trans twice during that 15k miles and I may have misaligned it or done some damage to the disc. I put another one back in (ACT REALLY hooked me up) and its running great again. Its literally never slipped on me. Oh yeah, it is a little hard on the leg/foot, but very street driveable. Wouldnt recommend driving in traffic though or youll be cussing up a storm.

As a side note, when I pulled the clutch (after 15k miles), it looked almost new - still had plenty of meat left on the pucks and the pressure plate was smooth with no large heat spots (other than the normal wear)

In the spring, Ill let you know how this thing holds up to 600+wtq on M&H DOT slicks

Difference between this ACT 6 puck rated at 499tq:
http://www.dezod.com/pd_act_6.cfm

Compared to
This Xtreme rated at 504 tq?

http://www.dezod.com/pd-act.cfm

Why would i go with the harsher of the 2 with the same rating? I understand one is a street disc, is this better or worse for racing.

This is the exact clutch I'm running and its not bad at all. At first since I was upgrading from a stock clutch it took some getting used to but now even in traffic it feels fine. Its not bad at all

the xtreme pressure plate is stiffer, harder pedal. Higher clamping force combined with organic disc, so you get no chatter but still hold torque .

Only drawback with organic , once it is overheated it never h olds the same. With the 6 puck you can beat the snot outta it. The 6 puck with lighter pressure plate holds as much as the organic with heavy plate. The clutch kit rated for 600 is 6 puck with heavy plate .

When I put my motor and trans back in I used the Centerforce DFX sprung (6 puck ceramic). The construction looked very good. It is rated for 440 ft lbs. It has a pedal feel like stock but has more of an on/off switch when it comes to engagement. After all the failed clutches before I thought I would try one that has been around for many years, we'll see how it goes
