View Full Version : Anyone got their turbo kits yet?
Lyracon 03-25-2005, 06:27 PM Anyone get their turbo kits yet? I called scionspeed on monday and they said they started shipping them. My order with them is still pending hehe. Just wondering if anyone gots it and did the install yet. Interested to see if the dyno numbers are around the ball park of what everyday people get :).
Streeter 03-30-2005, 01:20 PM I'm curious too - my kit's on the way but I want to find out what's in it 8)
jmiller20874 03-30-2005, 01:47 PM If you do it yourself, How-To article please. I'm jealous, I want a turbo, just not until the cars paid off.
Streeter 03-30-2005, 04:37 PM I just want to find out if I'll be getting ahead of myself if I go and get some iridium spark plugs and new wires.
Streeter 03-30-2005, 04:47 PM Oh der. I forgot - the tC comes with iridium spark plugs stock.
Lyracon 03-30-2005, 07:15 PM Post when you get it :) my order is still pending I figure that they are awaiting for kits to sell cause they sold out rather fast? hehe at any rate I can't wait.
TimmyT 03-30-2005, 07:23 PM I'm waiting for the greddy kit. Planning on having one hopefully by june though. Intalling a bolt on turbo kit isn't difficult.. Tuning a turbo is though :P
Streeter 03-30-2005, 10:31 PM To paraphrase, they are building the kits as orders come in - so the initial orders are taking some time to be filled out. (I talked to ScionSpeed a little bit about 2 weeks ago.) I put in my order the last day of February, so I certainly don't expect it in 2 weeks ago. 8)
TurboMe 03-30-2005, 10:41 PM just curious, what stage did u guys order?
kocho333 03-31-2005, 01:41 AM wat numbers will u be lookin at wit these kits, and which kits are they, im dying to get some high numbers outa this sleeping beast, i was thinkin the SC, but that wouldnt be worth the money, id rather jus go turbo and have more fun
PSHHTTT!!!!
kosta
TurboMe 03-31-2005, 02:07 AM i too love the spool of the turbo.
ChuChuRocket 03-31-2005, 02:11 AM The turbos look sweet, inspecially the stage 2 w/the intercooler
franktherank 03-31-2005, 07:06 AM im waiting for some aftermarket SCs....since i got an auto....
Streeter 03-31-2005, 07:10 AM kocho333, read up on the turbo kits on ScionSpeed.com.
I ordered a stage II kit.
franktherank - interestingly enough turbo kits work magic with automatic transmission. do a search on it! it's good stuff.
Lyracon 03-31-2005, 07:12 AM I ordered the stage 2 kit hehe
kocho333 03-31-2005, 01:56 PM kool thanx, let us know when ur kit comes in, im even excited for itlol
Rollinroyce 04-01-2005, 04:12 AM Scion speed e-mailed with results of there car, prettry impresive. they installed a stage 2 kit and got 356whp@14PSI on the stock engine. they told me they were just going to up the boost untill they could find a problem area. there is a video clip of the project tC making a run in the 1/4 mile, Mid twelves  . Im still curious as to what comes in the kit and what the turbo is cable of produceing. so when they come in someone let me know.
Tc808 04-01-2005, 04:28 AM A quick question for you guys that ordered the turbo. What system if any are you getting to manage the air/fuel ratio?

Those are good numbers... but I wouldnt run it too long that way on a stock engine! I would tune it down around 9 psi to stay in the safe zone... that may be pushing it a bit on this engine though. I think I have heard that 9psi is considered on the upper edge for this engine in stock form.
swolenoggin 04-03-2005, 01:31 PM how much did it cost for the turbo shipped..i need prices help me...pm with the prices if anyone has it thanx
Streeter 04-05-2005, 09:03 PM Has anybody gotten their kit yet?
Lyracon 04-05-2005, 10:13 PM Nope not I. Still pending....gave them a call and they said they are still recieving parts for the kits.
retrodrive 04-05-2005, 11:23 PM Sent them an e-mail 2 days ago; no response. Tried calling too. Good to know that you spoke to them. I was starting to worry.
Thrawn 04-05-2005, 11:26 PM A quick question for you guys that ordered the turbo. What system if any are you getting to manage the air/fuel ratio?
If I'm not mistaken, all 3 stages come w/ a pre-programmed (by Scion Speed) Greddy E-manage piggy-back ECU. So, there should be no need to for any additional components to manage the a/f ratio. Hell, the fuel maps are 1/2 of the R&D for a f/i setup, I couldnt see paying $3300+ just for parts and have to tune it myself from scratch.
TurboMe 04-05-2005, 11:30 PM im waiting for some aftermarket SCs....since i got an auto....
you can still put a turbo on an AT, iono about greddy but scion speed said that they will produce a turbo for AT's.

I think you are mistaking. From what I know, e-manage is not included.
brownbanana 04-06-2005, 11:37 AM can anyone confirm that the greddy e-manage will be included or confirm otherwise? even if it came pre-tuned, id still get it tuned because not all our cars are exactly the same and not all of us live in the same conditions.
jmiller20874 04-06-2005, 01:49 PM How are the cars not the same? Even if you're using an intake and header, all that's got to go anyway since it won't be compatible with the kit. (Unless of course you've got forged internals or a ported head :D)
brownbanana 04-06-2005, 02:34 PM http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=979788
heres a good read. theres more to difference in two different cars than intake and header..
jmiller20874 04-06-2005, 03:37 PM Thanks, that was some good reading.
Lyracon 04-06-2005, 07:45 PM Just talked to the guy from Scionspeed.com He said the reasoning for the delay in the turbo kits shipping out is that the Turbos they are using are in backorder. He said that they were thinking about going with a 57 trim on the turbo kit but they gotta test it out and ensure its quality. Estimated wait time is 30th or so of this month if they wait on the backordered parts. However they said that if they went with the 57 trim the kits would be shipped out sooner. Also stated that they really don't plan on waiting for the backordered parts because they really want to get the kits out there. So perhaps most of us will be getting our kits here within the month or even as late as mid May. :)
retrodrive 04-07-2005, 01:12 AM Yeah, I have had a chat with Jason this morning also. I hope we get something sooner since I have a show coming up.
Thrawn 04-07-2005, 08:32 PM I think you are mistaking. From what I know, e-manage is not included.
I believe you're right, I am mistaken. It appears that just the harness to plug in an Emanage is included, not the Emange itself. Oh well...
Azure_Pearl_tc 04-08-2005, 05:59 AM Yeah, I've been keeping in contact with Jayson. He did talk about the delay in the back ordered turbo, and they will try to ship it with the 57trim, only after some R&D to make sure the Air/Fuel program is still good. You may have a choice to wait for the original 51trim or be sent the 57trim earlier. Trade off may be a slight more turbo lag with the larger trim...but if you tune it yourself, you can get more power with the larger trim.. man, the wait is killing me. I want to burn some 'stangs, camaro's, vettes, and some other ricers!

You are funny :D
I'd go for larger trim and get higher stall TC (nice to have an auto) so the spool should be just fine. I am thinking changing out whatever turbo comes with the kit for something that has antisurge housing (slows down the spool) for sound and BB option to compensate for that

why don't you go for stage III? and get the proper e-manage program with it instead of spending more money to sel-tune afterwards...unless you know how yourself?
retrodrive 04-12-2005, 08:32 AM This car is my daily. Just need a faster spooling, good sounding, descent power making setup. I am not about to start building my bottom end, porting head, swapping cams and tuning AEM EMS. I have gone through that hell with my other ride already.

I am thinking about it, but it is also my daily driver. If you drive normal, then the boost does not go up and thus not stress out your engine. So, is it still plausible to purchase the stage III, and still make it a daily driver...and still have power to burn the corvette ZO6's when you need it? I would hate to get stage II and then want more later, and spending more to get it. Besides, scionspeed would have stage III ready before stage II anyways?
retrodrive 04-12-2005, 06:23 PM I really would not count on burning Z06's. Those are real sports cars comparing to our econoboxes. The turbo in stage 2 should be good for 450+ hp flow. You would need to make all kinds of upgrades before you can push that kind of power safely. Should be more fun if Scionspeed goes with larger trim for stage 2 though.
