View Full Version : Any "mini Hummer" xB owners out there? Post pics!

This may have been talked about before, but I can't find any results I like using the search feature.

It seems that people who buy an xB go one of two ways with it: Leave it stock, or mod it by putting street/high-performance parts on it.

How many people have turned their xB into a "mini Hummer"/mini SUV? Added off-road tires? Nerf bars? Brush guards?

I'm not suggesting that a 108Hp xB is capable of off-roading by any means (just like it's not capable of drag racing, yet still thousands mod their xBs by adding 19" rims, CAIs, and a host of other "street-centric" parts to them), but just wondering how many have gone for the "mini Hummer/mini SUV look".

If you have, please post pics. Seems like the body style would lend itself more to being modded into a mini SUV than a street racer.

Just curious... :)

that would be the wrong direction most people take with this car...
heavy and rugged is the Hummer
nimble and stylish is the xB

I've never heard of such a thing, but it pains me to think that anybody would conceive such an ill thought idea. Ick.

That xB is probably sitting on a Blazer or 4Runner chassis. It used to be extremely popular to put Chevy Vegas and Pintos on truck chassis back in the 70's.

That reminds me. Pinto wagons are way cool.

I don't think the idea is any stranger than modding a xB to look like a street racer. Both directions (street racer & "mini Hummer") attempt to turn the xb into something that it was never meant to be. I just figured with all of the customizers on here, someone would have done it by now.

C'mon... I think a BSP xB with a chrome brush guard, taillight guards, nerf bars, and a light rack would look sharp.

That reminds me of another idea I had. Don't think I'll do it, but I admit having the idea, which is to make the xB into a "tall Mini".

Probably look pretty lame though.

Jeeez! I was thinking more along the lines of stock off-road (RAV4 or 4Runner?) tires or something a little smaller!

The lift on that xB is a bit extreme for my tastes, but a nice thought. Maybe 1/2 as much lift, and more of a "military" look would be more my speed... Hey, at least it's something different and a new way to go, mod-wise. :D

Thanks for the link!

Ya know, you can order the xB with a white roof option. :D

The Pioneer Xb does not have an engine, it is used as an SPL vehicle.

you will probably never see anyone turn this car into an offroad vehicle, its frontwheel drive for starters, plus once you add bigger tires and wheels and lift the HP and gas mileage would go down the tube, this car fulled lifted and new wheels etc would get like 70 hp. it wouldnt be worth it plus it would be retarted. with enough money you could turn it into rwd and put a huge motor etc etc but it wouldnt be worth it and i doubt anyone will ever do it. unless they put the box on a different chassis

It shouldn't be a Hummer...more of a Mercedes GWagen.

personally I like the idea, but i think this is the wrong forum for that kind of modification. It would look pretty cool with bigger tires and a little raise. Not that I will be doing it, but just to be different, it's a cool idea. I hope someone does pursue that style.

Well, "retarted" or not, I think you're missing the point and spirit of this discussion. As I stated in the very first post in this thread:

"I'm not suggesting that a 108Hp xB is capable of off-roading by any means (just like it's not capable of drag racing, yet still thousands mod their xBs by adding 19" rims, CAIs, and a host of other "street-centric" parts to them), but just wondering how many have gone for the "mini Hummer/mini SUV look"."

A modded xB is no more an "off-road" vehicle than it is a "street racer". It remains an econobox with a stock 108Hp engine. This is all about exploring a different way of modding the appearance of the xB that isn't seen everyday.

To each his (or her) own. :D

Another good example!

A doctor at the hospital where my wife works drives one, and I've often made the same comparison (the xB looking like the G).

105 lbft of torque can just about turn these tiny azz wheels. Turning even the tiniest of off-road tires is out of the question. Even if they MADE a shorter final drive than the 4.30 the xB comes with, it would be a struggle.

Raising the car more than 1 inch even would lead to steering geometry problems and poor handling. The car isn't meant for this, it would cause problems.

If you want to put a brush bar and some KC Daylighters on and try to make it look like a 4x4, go for it. Just prepare to have people laughing at you wherever you go.

I never mentioned lifting it. That would be dicey considering the xBs shape and considerably higher center of gravity... There is about 3" of room in the wheelwell to play with, though. Replacing the factory treads with some larger rubber would fill in that space nicely without the neccesity for a lift kit. Since it would never be driven off the road (like 99.9% of the SUV buyers out there), upgraded suspension is not an issue either. :ponder:

Kinda like when people slap on 20s, lower them to the ground, paint them wild colors, and tattoo them with "sponsor stickers". Yeah. Wouldn't want anyone to "laugh" at me for doing something different! Why is it when you take a vehicle that looks like a mini van/SUV and mod it in that direction it's "odd", but if you try to make it look like a street racer, it's not?

I swear this forum is full of so many freaking haters. Why is that if some one does something new or different from the norm, No if they even ask about such things a wall of disapproval and warnings of ridicule come their way? The idea of a rally or semi beefed up Scion is different, its not even my style. But if the participants of this forum continue to hate on new ideas people will stop posting them and even worse people may stop attempting new things. Then where are we? No where. :tap:

Thanks, heme.

The funny thing is, I most likely won't even do any of these things once I get my xB. I was just curious if anyone had done something like this. I guess I know now that this is not a forum where you're allowed to differ from the "norm" (in other words, "street racer mods") and do something unique that isn't seen very often, popular or not. God knows the xB is certainly not a vehicle to express one's imagination with! :P

Well, at least I got a few helpful ideas. I'll catalog those and move on before WWIII ensues over putting off-road tires on a xB.

I've never liked raised trucks, especially when people do it half __ and do body lifts rather than suspension. Raising the Xb would make just as much sense IMO as rasing an Impala to fit 24'' rims. IMO retarded. Too impractical, too ridiculous, and its just...ew..

If you really want to do this, youre talking about spending thousands on custom parts just to get the box raised. And if you want to be able to drive it, you will need a big enough motor to turn the huge wheels you stuff under there. So all in all, your spending more money than the cars worth just to make it look like crap. IMO only.

Good luck. Cya
