View Full Version : Even MORE disturbing is NO manual transmo . . .
I know the iQ was released elsewhere with a 5-speed as an option. Yet our version has been released without one and with discouragement as far as ever expecting one. I feel Americans have a bad rap for being bad clutch jockeys. There is talk of a new 6-speed in development but still not for us here in freeway land.
After having driven one I believe a manual would make the iQ quicker and more fun to drive around. It seems to have such a heavy German feel on the road you feel tempted to grab a gear and go for an apex on a freeway ramp. With out that gearshift lever the iQ doesn't have much of a chance to snag male buyers off the floor.
Hopefully Scion will make the correct decision and let us have it.

jadeT 01-28-2012, 07:51 PM I'm sure it'll come out fairly soon. I can't imagine the IQ without a manual option.
marsrvr 02-19-2012, 08:05 AM The CVT's laggy and slippery alright. But after 15 years drivin' my Suzuki 5-speed, I don't miss the clutch chore. If you stand on the CVT's throttle its control logic will fake up a decent 3-speed automatic (it will actually disengage momentarily to upshift 3 times on the way to 70).
I'm working on a way to identify the system, crack the ROM and tweak its gain scheduling a bit...In theory it could actually be reprogramed for different driving conditions, shift the power curve around a bit...
Roller_Toaster 02-20-2012, 03:25 PM I know a company cracked the fit's cvt system, and had one setup as a 6 (or 8 speed) tranny? Pretty cool stuff, but I don't think they can handle alot of power.

Anything is possible if the right heads bump.

confirmed a POSSIBILITY of maybe coming to the US. This car still has to SELL in order for the release series models to be considered.....
SciPunk 03-02-2012, 01:17 PM True, it does have to sell, but i'ts nice it even considered a option :)

Well if it makes you feel any better, Scion sold more iQs than xDs last month.

well, most urban areas.. they've been increasing in sales.... and also the gas prices sky rocketing again has caused a slight increase as well..
however... for my purposes... i know many people (including myself)... not wanting to buy one... unless it was a manual..
so if that 6-speed manual tranny came over.. tell me where to sign.
gjpjr84 03-06-2012, 12:51 AM Scion did sell more iQs last month then xDs. if it keeps up like that then i would imagine not offering a manual iQ but offering a manual xD, might change their mind.

err.. weren't xD's offered as manuals already?
gjpjr84 03-07-2012, 12:53 AM yes, thats what i meant. they were saying that if there is enough demand then they might offer the manual.
they sold more iQs, but there are manual xDs and no manual iQs.
marsrvr 03-10-2012, 06:16 AM Hmmm...I could envision a kit that'd add steering wheel shift paddles, and in theory the CVT could be reprogrammed to behave like a whatever. It could probably all be done in software....
hotbox05 03-11-2012, 08:54 PM It really wasn't that bad. keep it in "S" if you want sporty pep and "D" for cruising. and "B" for going down a hill or extra stopping power.
Yes I still prefer a manual, not so much to do it but because I know Automatics cost A LOT to fix when they break, and CVT's EVEN MORE so.

Damn the Cube and CRZ are hurting for sales right now.
bellnier 08-17-2012, 04:50 PM I passed on the 2012 iQ and will continue to drive my 2005 xB (108,000 miles) for now. Scion has always marketed themselves as the "fun to drive" car brand, yet they came out with the slug-like-performance iQ. I'll buy an iQ when Scion can squeeze 5 or 10 more hp out of engine and it's connected to a 6-speed manual transmission.
