I'm having a bit of an argument with my local independent autoglass professional and I'm wondering if someone on here can help me out. I have an 06 xB and I just had my second windshield replaced. This third windshield has about a 1/3" gap between the molding and the car (pictures included). The autoglass company insists they use the factory molding and that all xBs have that gap. I know my second windshield did not have that gap because I nitpick and would have noticed it when they (a different company) installed it a couple years ago and I would have complained about it then. And I do not remember a gap when I got it from the dealership in 2006. It looks kinda ridiculous and doubt Toyota would design a car with a gap like that.

Does anyone else have a first gen xB with the original windshield they can snap some pictures of? Thank you so much.

 

Don't have my old box anymore but to my memory there was a gap. I walked and looked and on our 2nd gen xB there is the gap as well.

 

A gap like that shouldn't be a problem unless water can get in. My windshield replacement wasnt installed correct and water started coming in. I had to use gorilla glue to fix it up. I wouldnt worry too much about something that isn't causing issues.

 

The gap is due to the aftermarket glass being a little off. I've seen that before. As long as they put the right amount of adhesive between the glass and the body it shouldn't leak. But you will have some dirt accumulate there with time, so it's not ideal. But you saved some $$ on the aftermarket glass.

 

I have an 06 with the original windshield...there is no gap like that on mine

Please do. The glass place claims they use the same molding as Toyota and insists this is what the windshield is supposed to look like.
