Factory Warranty
OK, So I searched the tC2 forums and couldn't find anything about factory warranty and what will and what wont void it. So what will what and what won't? Intake? Coil-overs? Turbo? Exhaust? Looking at your car wrong?

Dependant upon which dealership you go to it will vary. Some dealerships, if a bird poops on your car then your warranty is voided. But some dealerships treat it as they should, that only a portion of your factory warranty is voided if you install an individual aftermarket piece to it. For example, if you install an intake and you get a MAF CEL, then they wont cover that...but if you install an intake and you get a ticking cam gear, then that's still covered

first off thanks for the reply, second whats a MAF CEL? I just dont want to have a problem if i throw on a intake and some coil overs and then dealership just turns me away. I already spend enough getting my car and I dont want to have to pay for something if it goes wrong because between my payment and insurance i dont have much money to throw around.
Research research research...I've seen posted on this forum answers to ur q.
The answers might not be specific enough for u, but is enough info about the warranty that u can figure it out
Other sources....
Trdsparks.com
Scion.com and go to the warranty & maintenance manual
Or the warranty & maintenance manual from the car itself

Yea the search on the forum can be such a pain in the butt to use. But just be aware, that if you mod your car and that mod causes a problem, they 100% WILL NOT cover the problem that it caused
that will prob keep me limited to just really simple bolt on stuff, so i dont get my self into too much trouble. guess that will force me to make payments on the car instead of buying stuff for it.
I have recently talked with Scion themselves and they have stated that if you have a tC2 any parts other than TRD will void your warranty. If you want to install an exhaust you are allowed to install a cat-back with out voiding your drivetrain warranty as long as you
do not remove or relocate the cat or take out the oxygen sensors. As for the CAI you cannot put an intake on other than TRD because you have to remove and reinstall the MAF sensor. If you do this it will void your warranty. As far as turboing they stated that if you turbo your Scion that you will void all engine warranty's and risk voiding all others. You can believe this information or not, but this is what they stated to me.
I have checked with multiple dealerships and they have all stated this as well, as well as a few ASE certified mechanics. I have also asked about Descendant intake or parts and scion stated that if you don't want your warranty's then go ahead and do what you want. I don't know about you but I have a 2012 Scion tC and am looking to keep my warranty's. So I am going to install all TRD stuff. Just like the 2012 GReddy Scion tC.

But the dealership has to show that the modification caused or contributed to the failure of whatever part your trying to get fixed. My Injen CAI didn't void my engines warranty...maybe the MAF... but not the engine. But I'm sure the dealership will fight you tooth
and nail before they replace/fix whatever problem comes up. So TRD is probably a safe bet. But even my dealership gave me ____ a while back because I had a syncro go bad and I didn't bring my car in for regular service. I changed it more often on my own.
They fixed the issue but didn't replace the trans. So they try and screw you either way. At least TRD wont give them a way out of fixing a problem.

So would my intake void the whole engine warranty or just if the MAF goes bad. I couldn't give 2 craps about the MAF going as I would just buy a new one but the engine warranty is a different story.
Look up the magnuson moss act which states that a warranty can't be voided by modifications that didn't cause the problem. (Ex. Aftermarket radio voiding your whole electronic warranty) I mean if you install a cai and then blow your engine and they find sand or debris in your cylinder maybe because the cai may not have filtered to stock specs. But if you spin a bearing or your alternator goes bad they can't blame the cai ya know?
I can't tell you yes/no 100% bc im just another driver and all my warranties are fubar at this point. (Turbo/led swap/etc) maybe my corrosion protection is still good...doubtful tho.

Thanks for all the responses guys, looks like i will lean toward TRD more than any thing now just to play it safe. Its good to hear what other people have ran into when taking the car into service with third party after market parts on it.
u have to ask yourself a question - do you want to be limited in your "mods" or do you want to be unique and free. If your going to mod outside of the OEM market just know how to paly the game and do what you can to NOT f*** up your ride. Im cautious, but the attraction to theses aftermarket modifications became way to much to handle! lol
