I am looking to buy an xB VERY SOON but dont really know where to look but car lots. I know this is really the only way, but I am looking more towards USED. This is my main problem. No one in central FL has a used xB. I am in Titusville, where they launch the space shuttle (for those who dont know where the small town of Titusville is). And i am willing to go almost anywhere to get it as long as it isnt WAY to far. But yes... any help is needed and appreciated.

Thanks,
Daniel

ebay has auctions up for plenty of xBs. You'll find what you want in no time there.

Ebay can get you good deals, just be careful with the shipping. If you enter in your zip code, you can actually sort them by distance, so try that first. If you wanna try on the site, they pop up on occasion, except they're usually not stock and you will usually have to pay a little more for pre-modded boxes.

You won't regret getting one! I got mine today, and it is totally awesome. Already threw in my silverstars, soon my cold cathodes, and maybe go port-a-wall's with salt flats!!

have fun, and happy hunting.

Toyota's hold their value so well that it doesn't make a lot of sense to buy used when a car is so new.

Seriously. You can buy a 2004 xB like mine for maybe $12,500 or you can have a brand new one for $14,250. Is it worth saving barely $2k and getting a car that you have no idea if it has been abused by some idiot riceboy?

Get a new one dude, we are talking about $14k here, not $55k. You won't save much on a used one unless somethings wrong with it.

I wouldn't buy a used Scion. I think it's work it to pay 1 or 2 g's more for a new car, than to save that money on a car that has 14K plus miles on it, and you don't know how it was driven.

If you do get a new one, make sure you buy the license plate bracekt BEFORE you buy it. If not, they will drill some holes into your bumper, not cool.

Hi,

I just got my xB last week from CarMax. I had done some research and I had used CarMax before for another purchase.

As dealers go, I think CarMax gives a pretty decent value.

It's not much better over here in the Panhandle of Florida. The used ones that I've found have at least 15 to 20k miles on them, and are selling for upwards of 17 grand!

I don't know if it's hype, or if they go up in value or what, but dealers are asking a lot for used xB's.

^^^ you're right, most used xB's sell for more than new ones.

i'd just go ahead and get a new one, you're only gonna save 1-2K buying a used one and with the new one you don't have to worry about anything the previous owner may forget to tell you about.

CarMax does have good deals and they are pretty picky about which used cars they buy and very thorough about checking them out, I agree.

If I wanted to buy anything used, CarMax would be my first stop.

That said, I noticed you didn't mention the price you paid. I'd be amazed if it was less than $13k. As was said, these cars are often sold for the same price, or higher even because used dealers aren't bound by Scion's Pure Pricing scheme.

I guess I just don't see the value in saving $1-2k when you could have a brand new one that is a year newer and will be worth more at trade. New cars are great, and rarely are they as good a value as they are in this case.

New Scion's are just such a good value, I think you'd have to be ultra-frugal or misinformed to buy one used. Sure, you save a $1000, but you get a car that very well may have been beaten on by some young kid in it's critical break in period. You don't get the new car experience either. Not to mention that buying a car from a Scion dealership is far quicker and less painful than any other kind of car buying experience out there, except maybe Saturn--- and in that case, at the end of the deal you wind up with a Saturn and that's pretty painful by itself. LOL

Then again, I always prefer new because I'm a perfectionist and I don't trust anyone else to break the car in properly because most people don't.

I just did a search in a 300 mile radius of where I live and found these results for used xB's:

20,995 Highest price
$13,000 Lowest price
$16,351 Average price

That's crazy.

Hi,

I paid 12,990 for an 05 with 12,370 miles on it. I probably could have shopped around some, but since it was the only scion in their lot, I decided to jump on it.

As for buying used, its something I do by my own rule. Perhpas I am jaded because most of my cars have been American made and now I don't buy a car without a 100,000 mile extended warranty. I have NEVER lost money with extended warranty's in the long run.

The xB is laid out so nice, that the only thing I can really see being a HHUGE repair expense is the clutch and an engine overhaul.

But that doesnt take into account things like alternator, and moreso A/C repair-replacement. A/C work runs up bills very fast, even for minor stuff. Clutch wear & tear isn't covered anyhow unless it like self destructs (not likely but possible).

The 98 Windstar I traded on the xB...man did that extended warranty save my wallet and then some.....

Welcome to the world of Toyota.

Prepare to lose money on your extended warranty for the first time ever.

But that is actually good news, if you think about it. Toyota's are absurdly reliable. I've had 3 and took one all the way to 175,000+ miles and still had no major repairs or problems with it.

I have a feeling that Windstar might just be your last American car once you see what owning a Toyota is like.

Just my opinion, but I'd say the rule on extended warranties is very simple. If the dealers or companies did not profit on them, they wouldn't sell them. That said, I probably would like the piece of mind too if I were buying a used Ford or a used Hyundai or something, but I'm just not brave enough to do that.

used ones can sell for more than the new ones cause people can charge whatever they want for it. but for new ones the dealer has to follow the pure pricing so often times its actually cheaper to get a brand new one!
