Default Ready to buy. What should I watch out for?

OK XB gen 1 owners, I need your help. I am ready to buy and just need to find a car. Is there anything I need to watch out for when buying an XB? Are there typical problems or issues I should know about. Should I go for an extended warranty? I am looking to buy a 2005 or 2006 XB with an automatic transmission. Please post ehre any tips or cautions you have for me. Thank you.

Extended warranties are hit & miss.... Depends a lot on how many miles the car already has.....

Check for Warped front brake rotors...vibration in the brake pedal during light to medium braking.... Our front rotors are so small to start, I just put new rotors on when I do my front brakes....why bother getting them cut ?

Put windows part way down, see how bad they rattle...seems to be a common thing... 8-(

Rear Wiper arm can crack where it holds the rear blade, allow for the blade to move around.... I adapted mine to accept standard blades, others remove the rear unit altogether and plug the hole.... A new factory rear wiper arm is like $75 from stealership....

Soft tires wear faster than they should for the light-weight of the gen1 xB....

If it has cruise control, make sure it works.... Wish mine had it...

2006 may have the Aux-port for an MP3 player...make sure it works....

Rear Hatch "Handle" (aka Garnish) can easily break off in your hand.... see if its loose...

I had 2 of 4 factory steel wheels go out of round....had to get new wheels....

Spark plugs often run well past when they should have been replaced....see if they have been changed.....

If you live in a warm climate, DO make sure the A/C is working rightly....

Hope you find a car you like... I would buy another one in a heartbeat !!!

i think sammydad summed it up pretty well. i have the window shake problem and the hatch garnish problem. fixed the garnish with a new one but the windows still rattle like crazy!

Oh Yeah....Forgot one other....

Rear Power door lock actuators have failed for seemingly far too many folks, myself included.... Did the ebay actuator fix per the DIY...worked out great....

Head gaskets may be a problem - also dome light bulb burns out. I only have 340,000 miles on my 05 and am experiencing both these problems now.

Though the above post is accurate, you might tell my tongue was stuck firmly in my cheek when typing.

I wish I knew about this when I bought mine earlier this week! I didn't notice it until after I had the car at home for a while. I bought it from a reputable dealer and they'll replace the wiper arm but they're 60 miles away!!!
