Default Painting Carbon Fiber?

Just throught i'd shoot a question in the dark here, but has anyone have an idea on how to paint a carbon fiber anything into a different color?

and i'm not talking about a carbon fiber whatever changing to a solid color anything, that's basic painting plus i don't here good things about sanding/painting CF...

I'm more see if there is such a thing as maybe a colored tint paint(?) that could basically change the color of the typical black or silver carbon fiber and still keep the same carbon weaved look

possible or impossible?

It's possible. A friend had his hood pearled in BCP. Looks good on dark colored cars.

This was years ago so I'd just ask at a reputable paint shop.

Ends up looking like this.

Don't quote me on this but all of the carbon fiber that I have seen has the weave showing up. the amount of coats and the type of fiber will defiantly play a big roll on it but I haven't seen any carbon fiber painted that will make the weaves go away.

OMG I WANT. What's the paint called?

Is it just a light coat of pearl paint?

its normally a pearl powder that they mix in the clear coat and gives it that color /clear effect.

I have my carbon hood and spoiler painted on my Z. I'm not a fan of carbon on black so my body shop did this. Its awesome looks stock from far away but when you are standing right next to it you can see the weave.

It's easy to do. Just basically a tinted clear coat.

I would go to a shop to do it just because carbon fiber from my experience is very delicate. I did have a friend who did it himself, but he's like a paint guru and it came out great.

You can add whatever color you want to clear. The more you add obviously the less transparent its gonna be. If you have a white car you may want to see if you can get a silver cf hood. It would be an easier base to start with and may look good all by itself.

You can use pearl or also the candy coats as well since candy paints have a silver based with a transparent color over it. The reason that carbon fiber hoods are delicate is because they are resin coated instead of clear coated regular paint jobs. I only know this from working with fiberglass in my car audio days.

The OP wanted to paint an actual carbon piece, not paint something to look like carbon.
