Default HEy NOW! Purchased TC With SRS air bagsWHOoping650 GRRR!

Hey fellas,
My wife just bought me the 05 Black Sand TC.... 2 days before my wife arrived she was told that by the dealer our vehicle was in. They did not mention the SRS air bags, at the time. She was told a certain price. Basically 16515 plus TTL, Since it was a trade from another dealer 40 miles away. All I wanted was a base tc. I did not want to add features on my finance. Plus Im pretty sure it added weight to my tc. They apologized to my wife. Stating it was a trade and thats all they had within this state. My wife tried to haggle it off. Called me, I tried to talk to them out of it, but they stuck to it. Would not budge. Im surprised, So, total out the door price was 17160. What do you guys think? Anybody, else purchase their tc with SRS airbags. It didnt even make a diffrence on insurance. Its such a bummer, since I could of added features worth 650....ANyways, Great Site! I went for base price so I can modify in the near future. I havnt been in the import scene in about 7 years. Joined the military. Since the price you pay for a tc with all the features could not be beat. I plan on simple modifications. IE the right lowering parts this time LOL etc. Going for show, not to worried on go. So, I dont have to worry about the cops and their dang fix it tickets.

....welcome!

I actually wanted the side curtain airbags and I was told Id have to wait 5-6months extra....I was like...hell no

Good thing about it though is you can get an added discount on your Insurance now...I dunno how bad Ins. is where you are, but here in Jersey it sucks.

congrats on the purchase!

i dunno how it is up there, but down here and id assume most places (maybe except CA)...cops bust people A LOT more for "show" mods than "go" mods.

So if i understand correctly

They told you that this car they had, not being what you ordered, was what you HAD to take and you HAD to pay the extra for it? No way man take it back and tell them you'll wait for yours to come in. They tried to get me into a silver one but i stated that i would wait for the white and that was it.

Sorry lab I explained it wrong. I got preapproved, I told them I wanted a black sand pearl 5spd. In a few days, My wife gets the call.... that they traded in their black automatic for it, from another dealer. We have the right color but asking us to pay for the SRS bags. I didnt want it in the first place. They were stating that they didnt know at the time. Until my wife came to pick up the vehicle. I am pretty disapointed. Since now I may be financing extra. I talked my auto insurance and they said it did not make a diffrence. Maybe not for another 2 yrs. TOTAL bummer. Hmmm! what could have I added for 650. ALot of stuff.

Well I think I was extremely lucky when I got my IIP...they had just gotten from a trade and I wanted the SRS Airbags.

It does make a difference w/ insurance costs for me at least. In a few months I'll be paying less then what I do now for a '94 Toyota Corolla...

But yeah, they should not have made you take that one w/ SRS if you didn't want it. I would have just stated I'd wait as long as it took.

I wanted the SRS and I got them. It is the only mod you can have that cannot be added at the port or a dealer. They are factory installed. Just suck up the payment difference and rest assured that you will have them should you need them.

Default worth the $$$

I waited over two months to get my SSM five speed with the SAB option. I think it is money very well spent. If ever they deploy you will be glad you paid the extra $650. Take a look at www.iihs.org for details....here is what they say....

"Side airbags: Initial analyses of the efficacy of side airbags suggest they have reduced deaths among passenger car drivers involved in driver-side collisions by about 45 percent when the side airbag included head protection and by 11 percent when the side airbag was designed to protect only the torso.3"

Congrats on the new tC! Time to start your mods.....tint first...

Who's your provider? Mine provides a discount for security system and airbags.

It's only $650, and a smart investment. I don't really know why you're disappointed.

I wouldn't really complain. According to my dealer, MT tCs with side airbags (especially BSP and FM) are hard to get. Sure it's a couple extra bucks a month, but it's something that could potentially save your life, unlike a body kit or nice system. I know someone who's very thankful they had the SRS system in their car. In fact, the reason he's still around is because of it.

And hey, you're in the military. At least you don't have to hit up a junkyard to Macgyver something up for your vehicle because somebody didn't think it was important.

$650 is what everyone paid for that got the SRS Side Airbag package. I feel you could have walked away from the deal since this isn't want you asked for. If you are complaining that they wouldn't take the charge off, they really can't, the deal could be rejected by Toyota Financial since they didn't sell you a unit with the same price as everyone else. I doubt it added much weight to your car, and if you ever need them they will be well worth the $650 investment. I actually wanted one with the SAB package and was not going to settle for one without it. Consider yourself lucky to get a 5spd SAB combo as those are rare.

I assume you are speaking of the side curtain air bags? Because all tCs come with driver, passenger and driver knee air bags. So if they are charging you for the standard srs airbags.... then hell no!!

yeah scion doesnt budge on the price. i didnt order mines but and the one i picked up had the obx shift ****. i tried to get them to remove it caues 56 bucks for it is way too much. i couldve gotten it for free elsewhere. id rather them take it off give me the 56 bucks and let me drive it off w/o it. but they said they did want to have that liability.

Dude, trust me, your life worth a lot more than the little tC. And it makes day and night kind of difference when you encounter a side on crash. Check out highwaysafety.org. Their comparison tests show that with an side airbag, your life might be saved. I know it's not in your original selection list, but you shouldn't be so upset since it's an option that you can't install yourself...

It is called SRS (side and side curtain airbags) on the scion website. Hope this clairifies the debate on what they are called.

On the sticker of the vehicle the accessory code is "BE".

SRS stands for Supplemental Restraint System. ALL airbags are SRS, which is why most cars have it printed on all the bag locations. The SRS acronym does not have anything to do with them being side curtain, dash, steering wheel, knee bags etc. Just a little more info
