Someone please explain. Last week I was goofing around getting onto the interstate. Brand new 2012 xb completely stock automatic and decided lets see what it tops out at. Here is my question. It's my understanding its a 4 speed. When I hit 119mph and just about red line in 4th gear its shifted I think and went to 3500 rpm. I had no more power to go faster but didn't loose speed either. Anyone know what the hell happen. Cause as soon as it happen my friend and myself were like WTF what did it just shift into. Sadly never hitting 120

 

Rev limiter? Governor?

 

That's my thoughts but not sure. Hoping someone on here will know.

Not worried about the top speed. Just want to know what the shift was.

What did the digital gear indicator say when it happened?

 

Due to people getting arrested lately on youtube for posting high speed I don't think I'll be recreating it. I don't think anyways

It could have said 4 but that’s not necessary the gear you’re in. You may have been in 3rd and did not realize it. When you put into sport mode and punch it the car will downshift for you even if it says 3rd. you could have up sifted thinking you were going into 4th but stayed in 3rd in tell redline then went into 4th. Just a thought

 

I understand what youre asking. Me bringing up the top speed is because ive been in cars when it hits the limit and some feel like a shift or it pulls back hard.

The owners manual says that 4th (manual trans) tops out at 111MPH. Has no info on auto trans

 

If I remember correctly from when my xb2 was an auto, 2nd gear was massive, and so was 3rd?

It's very possible you weren't in 4th gear yet if you weren't actually shifting 1-2-3-4, but just putting it into sport shift mode and setting it to 4th gear, then punching it?

 

That was the "Flux Capacitor" kicking in. Since you had already crossed 88 MPH. The next benchmark was ripping the fabric between space and time.

you were in 3rd and once it relaxed it went into 4th. though 3500 at 119? thats awfully low i think.

3k im at 65-68 ish. in 4th gear. i hit 134 yesterday pretty sure i was around 4k maybe 4500. ( i have no governor)

You guys are pretty brave going that fast in an XB! I never got mine above 85mph lol stock tires are not the greatest, hope you guys have better rated tires going that fast!
