Yes I know.. search. I even Googled. But anyways:

For a few months, maybe a year? Ive been hearing this sound, it sounds the same as when you move a spoon across a plate (not paper) on its edge. I hear it at low speeds and progressively gets louder. non existant when stopped. and cant hear it anywhere past 45? Ive jacked the car up and wiggled the wheel and nothin. checked to make sure the shield around the rotor wasnt touching the rotor and thats fine. 54k miles on a 2007 auto btw.

Startin to feel paranoid here. Posted a while ago that i though my water pump was goin out, that transformed into thinkin i had a bent rod.. turned out to be nothing. :?

 

Ever get the brake pads replaced? It could be the low pad wear indicator. Its a small piece of metal on most brake pads, when the pads wear down low enough this metal tab will rub on the rotor causing a screeching sound almost. No big deal, buy some new pads and rotors, or get your rotors measured and cut.

 

I replaced em not to long ago. ill check them again later this week. new fogs and grills comin in anyways lol

 

It could also be a frozen brake caliper. Take off your caliper and see if you can move the brake pads out. Do this slowly with a large C clamp. If it seems like you are putting too much force on it you can either re-build your caliper or buy a new one.

Mine makes a sound similar to what you are describing, and I have plenty of pad left. In my case, I have what looks like like material transfer from the pads onto the rotor that seem to be causing the noise when they slide past the pads. I can feel them with my finger too. I'm planning to just cut the rotors for now, and will change out the rotors altogether when the pads are worn.

 

Thats my plan in the next few weeks, replace the pads lol

 

what kind of tires do you have?

 

I have the same noise with fairly new TRD pads and took to dealer, they suspect the tire(s). I am going to replace tire but I have heard the noise for about a year so I will need tread anyway. Maybe they did not want to pay for warranty work so I hope they are right and it is the tire.
