View Full Version : alpine or memphis components for tc
yellot00tr 04-07-2005, 05:02 PM just trying to see if anyone has one of these components:
the memphis Power Reference 6.5" Component Speaker
15-PRCS6
or one of these alpines:
Alpine SPR-17LS Type-R 6.5
or
Alpine Type-S SPS171A
for some reason crutchfield is saying that these won't fit the tc. i've heard that people have the alpine stuff. trying to see if anyone has any opinions on what might be the best way to go. i'm prob not gonna run an amp for the components. i have the bazooka sub already and i don't really need to blow out my eardrums. just the stock speakers leave a little to be desired. since the bazooka has its own amp i don't wanna have to add another amp and take up space in the trunk-even though an amp isn't huge. my trunk is already packed with all my crap. thanx
SCI_TC_GUY 04-07-2005, 05:11 PM if you're not going to amp them, go with the alpine type-s.....lavabox has those unamped but with an aftermarket hu......he's always bragging how they don't need alot of power......with the others, you'd be wasting your money not to get an amp.....
LavaBox_v1 04-07-2005, 05:25 PM Alpine all the way ...
Type-R you should amp
Type-S you can run off headunit
I have the Type-S on my Alpine headunit and it sounds awsome ... The headunit has a buil in EQ and Crossover which helps ALOT with the sound!
yellot00tr 04-07-2005, 07:10 PM can the stock hu run the alpines? i thought the stock was 160 watts or something like that. or do i have to get a new head unit?
LavaBox_v1 04-08-2005, 12:34 AM For best sound a new headunit w/ some built in goodies like EQ and Crossover ... The crossover will let you tun the Front, Rear & Sub all seperate while the EQ will give you that fine tunning! ... BUT if you get the TypeS components you can use the stock headunit but I would look into getting a good EQ/Crossover that way you can fine tune them to get the best sound!
tckurt 04-08-2005, 01:50 AM please don't get memphis speakers...
SuperCrunchyAction 04-08-2005, 03:24 AM please don't get memphis speakers...
Care to explain why?
LavaBox_v1 04-08-2005, 02:40 PM I have heard good things about Memphis ... Did we miss a problem with them?
SCI_TC_GUY 04-08-2005, 03:26 PM I've heard older Memphis Studios and they were awesome!!! depends on what you like
mandos 04-08-2005, 03:28 PM Trust me, most any 6.5" speaker will fit a tC's doors. You just might have to build a spacer from MDF so it doesn't hit your window :)
tckurt 04-08-2005, 03:37 PM I've just heard some bad things about people having problems with memphis' longjevity with their door speakers... but their subs are fine.
LavaBox_v1 04-08-2005, 03:47 PM Ooooo Did you hear any problems with SQ? ... Speakers last only if you take care of them ... if you abuse them and balst them to hell, they wont last long
Jimmy 04-08-2005, 04:49 PM jl audio all the way.the vr series is what i have and they sound clean
SCI_TC_GUY 04-08-2005, 06:48 PM i have VR's also.....they do sound very sweet....like music to my ears.....wait a second.....
yellot00tr 04-08-2005, 09:01 PM 2 things-the alpine sps 171a will def fit the tc? also, how hard is the install? something i can do myself, or do i have to go to a place to get em done? i don't really do stuff like this, but i wanted to get the alpine set off of e-bay cuz i've seen em for like $110 shipped, supposedly brand new. places and even online guys like crutchfield sell the sps171's for about $200. online then charges you like $20 shipping and places in NY charge you almost 9% in tax.
MB Quart premium series 216.
you wont regret it
tckurt 04-08-2005, 10:43 PM Well if you want to go all out get the JL XR (I have em they're awesome) or the MB Quart Q series...
go with memphis 'cause everyone got alpine.
go with memphis 'cause everyone got alpine.
great reasoning
TCgetonmylevel 04-09-2005, 02:12 AM Well if you want to go all out get the JL XR (I have em they're awesome) or the MB Quart Q series...
where can i get these from?
sraudio 04-09-2005, 02:15 AM If you are looking to maintain the stock radio and upgrade speakers i would suggest something along the lines of FOCAL Access series componets if you are looking for a good clean speaker that will work well with stock head but leave you room to grow
yellot00tr 04-13-2005, 04:25 AM i went with the memphis 15-PRCS6 component set. heard really good things about em, and i ended up getting them for a little cheaper than the alpine set. f in steaL.
mandos 04-13-2005, 04:36 PM Well, if you're considering JL, I'd have to suggest the eDi 6500s. My roommate has JL XR's in his van, used my eDi's for a couple weeks before I got them installed and was threatening to just steal them from me. Everyone that listened to them in his van agreed, the eDi's sounded better.
And yes...I work for eD...but this was last year, before I did, and I've been making the same suggestion since then.
