I'm Looking to buy a roof rack for 4 snowboards. I was wondering what type you got, what all is needed and where you purchased them. Thanks

I saw a guy with a Yakima on an xb.......he had nice small rails screwed into the roof that the rack mounted to.....it was very clean and sturdy.

yakima has one, but you buy them by pieces.

www.yakima.com you can build your rack and then go to the store and get what you need.

Yakima is the only one. We are waiting to see if Thule (pronounced tooley) is coming out with one. They don't have one yet, but my husbnad prefers telling people his wife has a nice swedish rack instead of a Japanese one or something like that. I personally don't care, I'm ready for one now. If you head on over to the thread where we put our Scion Exposed pics, I have a pic of the Yakima rack.
We fit three people and gear in my xB with the 60 seat down, but I think we need the rack. The car more than likely won't hold four people's gear and four people, but then again, we fit four people and over $400 worth of groceries from Costco, so it may be possible.
We bought our last one at a place in Costa Mesa for a really good deal, and we had called over Socal to find a good price. If you are interested in the place we went to, PM me. (I can't remember off-hand.)

i have the Yakima rack ... basket and bike, getting the snowboard, and use them all the time ... with more than 2 people it comes in very handy

base part - $300 (got at The Bike Rack)
basket - $300 (got at REI)
snowboard - $100 (will get at REI)

btw ... Thule does have a rack out .... saw some pic's on the yahoo group

I saw the snowboard attachment at Sports Chalet in Costa Mesa for $60 or so. It was $40 off as a sale item.

i picked up a rv inno snowboard/ski only rack that has dual angles. Got it for abot 250. I like it. If I had a digi i would have pics for you. OWell

It is primarily used for a long board, but the attachments for the bike or the snowboard just clip right on to the poles. It is nice.

Toybox1 has the best roof rack I've seen yet no clamps and very clean!

I have the Yakama set up. I used to sell racks. If you don't need the boards to lock on, then just get the barsw/ locks and strap your snowboards on w/ cargo straps...if you do it right they won't go anywhere and you will save yourself $200 in extra "snowboard" mounting racks that make a lot of wind noise and you have to remove everytime you want to put anything else on your racks. I have the "clamp" style not the "rail" style and the wind noise in minimal. Use wide ski racks rather than the snowboard ones, they are more versatile, lower profile, and have lower wind noise if you have to have them on. I found most people purchased them because they wanted to look cool or needed to lock the boards on. The locks however are real easy to break.

First off, let me say that Yakima is and has always been AMERICAN. Made in CA. And they are the Best!

The Qtowers sit on top and are clipped into the edge of the doorjam. No drilling or anything permanent.

I think Toybox's rack looks sweet too, but the rails match better cuz his ride is black.

The advantage to the rails is that you have more flexibility on the span of the rack to use different accessories, etc.

Not the cheapest route, but IMO, I would go with Yakima Qtowers and then the bike attachments depending on what type of bikes you have. Check out yakima.com for their configurator. Funny thing when I just looked - the only Scion listed for 2005 is the tC, you have to select 2004 to get xA and xB.

Once I recover fully from this surgery I will see if I need one or if my bike will fit inside the cabin. I actually like the look of the racks on top unlike most vehicles I see on the road with racks.
