Power Steering Noise

Power Steering Noise
2008 XB 5.0, 75,000 miles. Noticed an odd noise from what seems to e the power steering. It is smooth and silent turning while stopped. But when the steering is returning to the center, I am hearing a strange hissing or wheezing noise under the hood. It sounds like a home AC unit when the compressor shuts down.
The steering feels fine when it happens. But in my experience, new oddball noises are not good.
Figures, my oddball transmission behavior goes away to be replaced with another weird noise.
Anyone else experience this? Makes me miss my 2006 XB before it was murdered.

Nailed it down. It is actually the rear disc brakes making that noise. So I'll be dealing with those soon. Thankfully it was not the power steering.
Never changed rear disc pads before. Hopefully it is not much different than the front pads other than the e brake cable. Researching that next for my days off next week...

The rear caliper piston has to be screwed in, don't use a
"C" clamp and try to push it back like you would the front brakes.
I had to back off the parking brake cable a couple of turns to get enough slack to unhook the cable from the rear caliper. to remove it.
Not a hard job.
