ReznorTC 04-10-2005, 12:54 PM The eclipe that I saw looked amazing but I wanted to know if there are any others that fit comfortable in the space...
check out these pics
that Eclipse AVX2494 system looks awesome, has a 20Gig HD and touchscreen. But I have no idea how much it cost.... anyone else have a dvd system and some pics?

MrBarraza 04-10-2005, 03:34 PM Wow !! That really looks good. I just have a few questions about putting a DVD player in the scion tc like that.
Is that a touch screen menu or do you control it with the little buttons?
Also, I have heard that you have to "shave" the DVD player before it is mounted so that it can fit....is that true and where would I go to have my DVD player installed?
Are there any problems/side effects/negative issues with installing the DVD player?
nice, very clean pics! Thats what i want for my tC
There is also Avic series from Pioneer, I'm going after AVIC-D1
kileil 04-10-2005, 05:09 PM Is that a touch screen menu or do you control it with the little buttons?
The eclipse above is a touch screen
Also, I have heard that you have to "shave" the DVD player before it is mounted so that it can fit....
No alteration of the dvd player, just sometimes you have to drill new holes in the Iso brackets of the car to recess it back further, allowing it to clear the door.
motozen 04-10-2005, 05:44 PM any word on the avn5495 coming out yet?
any word on the avn5495 coming out yet?

miller3624 04-10-2005, 07:58 PM by the way the eclipse shown i think retails for 3,000 and the kenwood shown retails for about 1,000.
MrBarraza 04-10-2005, 08:08 PM by the way the eclipse shown i think retails for 3,000 and the kenwood shown retails for about 1,000.
The Eclipse is on ebay for about 1,250 last time I searched for it. I wanted to buy it, but I don't know if I want to do put it in my car.
MrBarraza 04-10-2005, 08:10 PM triplesix: I love the inside of your car.
Just wanted t let you know. : )
whats great about our car is that we have a cover and somewhere to put those type of headunits on so perfectly and ppl wont be able to see it and jack it. unlike other cars, its easy to tell
miller3624 04-10-2005, 08:19 PM yea they have the avx2404 on ebay for like 1100, but the msrp, i am now positive, for the 2494 is 3000.
erickwu 04-21-2005, 02:14 AM i bought the eclipse avx-2494 and i love it i paid 1400 for it on ebay with s/h it's really easy to install too
ScionTcLuva 04-21-2005, 03:30 AM Yeah kinda a hard decision. The kenwood looks sweet, has a bigger screen but NO digital 5.1 decoder built-in. Personally I'm all about the digital sound so............... You can grab both of them of ebay NEW for about 1000$
Decisions, decisions Lifes so Hard  .
toastbox 04-21-2005, 03:57 AM The eclipse avn 24xx's go for ~$1200 on ebay. the avn 5435's (an updated 24xx model) go for close to $2000 on ebay. I found a shop that was selling them for $1700. I have not bought one from them yet tho.
The elcipse units are made by fujitsu ten, the company that produces the NAV systems for toyota, so the install is a *direct* plug and play....read: no adpaters required. The wiring harness that slips into your stock head unit will slip directly into the Eclipse. :) Plus, the Eclipse units are double drives, meaning you can have a the NAV dvd in one drive, and a cd in the other drive. So you can get NAV directions and listen to music at the same time :)

anybody put a rear cameras with it?
Oh yea! I saw the Eclipse AVN2454 w/ rear-view camera, looked awesome!
indecisive311 04-21-2005, 01:24 PM nice, very clean pics! Thats what i want for my tC
There is also Avic series from Pioneer, I'm going after AVIC-D1
just remember...the pioneer is dvd-rom only for nav. You need to hook up a dvd changer to play dvds.
soldiercontreras 04-21-2005, 02:23 PM Yeah that really blows on the Pioneer HU. I would have gotten that one if it wasn't built like that. Instead I have the Kenwood which is really nice.

ramen 04-21-2005, 06:08 PM about rear view camery for eclipse HU
where should it sit?
I was thinking of getting a BEC with my avn5435
but the shop couldnt really find a good place to mount it
looks ugly on hatch window, drilling a hole in bumper might ending up ugly as well
so where? I could have gotten it for $200 more with my avn5435 including installation, but decided not to do it. dont want to get my car all messe dup
any thoughts?

I was think of doing the same, someone help us out.
BTW, I am getting my Eclipse for $1400 brand new, without any discount, I dont know where the $3000 remark came from.
fausty 04-22-2005, 01:05 PM I'm getting the Kenwood Nav (DV4100) & Monitor (DDX7015) for $1500 brand new.
A rearview cam would be cool, but really, is it needed for a tC? I understand some things are just cool to have, but I don't know if I would cut up my bumper or anything for it. I'd be interested to see what solution you guys find.
thefajitascandal 04-22-2005, 01:43 PM The kenwood looks sweet, has a bigger screen but NO digital 5.1 decoder built-in.
It does play dts if thats what u mean..i just put a dts cd in mine yesterday and man it was amazing
ScottyeyttocS 04-23-2005, 03:42 AM Is there any online stores selling the Eclipse units? (other than biddin on ebay) If not, is there some kind of dealer search I could use to find a store that carries them near me?
Thanks
TheBigGuyRy 04-23-2005, 03:48 AM I found a shop that was selling them for $1700.
any chance you could let us know where that is?
I am getting my Eclipse for $1400 brand new, without any discount, I dont know where the $3000 remark came from.
Where are these prices coming from?? let us know, please.
TheBigGuyRy 04-23-2005, 04:16 AM And just as a side question, what are the major differences between the AVN5435 and the AVN2454, aside from one being newer?
Just curious as to what the fundamental differences are, whether it's worth the extra couple hundred for the new one.
adam1026 04-23-2005, 09:18 AM The $1400 Eclipse I got a price on was at www.jrscustomauto.com but I dont know if they will ship you one. ANd I think the only difference between those two stereos is the button colors, ones red and the other blue.
TheBigGuyRy 04-24-2005, 03:17 AM ANd I think the only difference between those two stereos is the button colors, ones red and the other blue.
So... you're paying a couple hundred dollars extra for different colored buttons? :tap:
I think it's a little more than that. For instance, the newer model has 5V instead of 2V or something like that.
I'm guessing there was software and processesor upgrades also, between the two.
yamaha16bw 04-24-2005, 06:30 AM ^^^ all that info is on there website www.eclipse-web.com
TheBigGuyRy 04-24-2005, 11:39 PM Is it? Cause i'm pretty sure all that tells you is about the new model, nothing about the old one.
evelasc0 04-25-2005, 07:05 PM Ive pre-paid for the avn 5495. it cost me $2800 with instalation. I have to wait for them to be released from the factory. Eclepse Told me that the unit would not be released till middle of May.
TheBigGuyRy 04-26-2005, 07:21 PM Good God that's alot of money.
I just couldn't bring myself to do that. :nails:
eddo456 04-28-2005, 02:19 AM Also Eclipse is made by fujitsu ten, which is owned by toyota. The eclipse screen doesn't need any harnesses and the factory plugs just plug right in, kinda neat. It is the model that is installed on high end lexus models, with the navigation and all.
Womenlover 10-31-2005, 08:54 PM Does anyone know if yo ucan do this to your xb
toastbox 10-31-2005, 09:15 PM yes, the eclipse units will fit into the Xb's. I can't speak for the kenwoods.
The previous statement about Fujitsu-10 being owned by toyota, I don't think that is true. Eclipse is made by fj10, and toyota does indeed use them to supply all their NAV systems, but i don't think Toyota owns them.
Mista3 10-31-2005, 09:29 PM This thread was just wat I was looking for. I just installed the tCover and think that an upgraded H/U would be the iceing on the cake 4 any tC owner. I need more people to listo other options for the factory radio door.

does this mean no holes will need to be drilled with eclipse? i've read you need to drill holes when using the kendwood models.
jOhNL45b 12-04-2005, 11:41 PM Here......so everyone can see this is my dvd setup http://www.scionlife.com/gallery/personal/15183_2.jpg

fastandcurious 12-05-2005, 03:34 PM http://www.scionlife.com/gallery/personal/15183_2.jpg
Is it just me, or does the screen on the passenger seat look different than the other two?
JINeration 12-05-2005, 03:35 PM i was just wondering if the pioneer or kenwoo still lets u use the control buttons that on ur steering wheel on the 06 seris of the TC im tlakin about the buttons that can change the tracks and volumes

before i looked at the second pic i thought you had a tv in the steering wheel, and the dash infront of the passenger. lol then i saw it in the headrests. look nice tho.
jOhNL45b 12-05-2005, 04:49 PM lol....not quite steering wheel...that'd be crazy...ludacris possibly..but not me lol..but thanks for the compliment...oh and fastandcurious the right screen came out wierd in the picture thats all
toastbox 12-05-2005, 07:09 PM Also Eclipse is made by fujitsu ten, which is owned by toyota. The eclipse screen doesn't need any harnesses and the factory plugs just plug right in, kinda neat. It is the model that is installed on high end lexus models, with the navigation and all.

you *definitely* need to drill new holes with the Elcipse AVN's, if you want the cover/door to close flush. it's not a huge deal, because you ahve to remove the mounting bracket anyhow to get the factory stereo out (if i recall correctly). Simply make sure you pay attention to which side is which, and the way the brackets mount up (they only fit in one way anyhow), and then just measure about 1/4" further back on the bracket (read, towards the engine). It's really not very difficult.
JINeration 12-09-2005, 02:58 PM if i was to get a kenwoo for my 06 BSP would i still b able to use the controls on the steering wheel????????
fastandcurious 12-09-2005, 03:30 PM this guy was able to do it with the eclipse:
http://scion-tech.com/zerothread?id=199&postid=2328
don't know about the kenwoods.
does any of these have a custom screen layout you can put in? like skins?
-Keith- 12-09-2005, 04:19 PM Eclipse is not to be sold online... So if you find it online dont expect a waranty
ivandrios 12-09-2005, 04:46 PM OK OK just wait for the Pioneer Avic Z1.....you guys will love that one..but not the price lol
ivandrios 12-09-2005, 04:47 PM wont come out till 2006
Onikage 12-09-2005, 09:27 PM wont come out till 2006
That thing is probably going to be over 2 grand :silly: .
ivandrios 12-10-2005, 12:39 AM yeah thats for sure but its well worth it...its like haveing a TL lol
JINeration 12-10-2005, 05:06 AM will the pioneer work with the steering control?
Onikage 12-12-2005, 07:39 PM yeah thats for sure but its well worth it...its like haveing a TL lol
I've been thinking about just doing a car pc install. It'll probably be a pain in the butt, but at least it won't cost 2 grand hehe.
ivandrios 12-12-2005, 09:00 PM well i was actually think of getting a tablet pc..its about 1500....but you get wifi and all...
MonkeySan 12-15-2005, 01:52 PM Apparently Alpine has a touchscreen double-din DVD unit coming out for 2006:
http://www.yoursciontc.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8103
For less than $1000, looks good to me...NAV is an additional option.
ivandrios 12-15-2005, 02:04 PM not bad at all i guess
ivandrios 12-15-2005, 02:09 PM check this out http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/press/release/detail/0,,2076_4313_281602044,00.html
MonkeySan 12-16-2005, 12:59 AM The Pioneer sounds sweet. I've always been a fan of Pioneer units.
ricexizxgood 12-16-2005, 11:51 PM I think the Pioneer HU's will work with the 06 steering wheel controls, if you have the PAC SWI-PS.
ivandrios 12-17-2005, 08:03 PM man i cant wait for this to come out.....if only they can email once it comes out...if anyone is in las vegas jan. 5-9 they have the CES consumer electronis show...thats where they will release it to the public.
chrisonfiya 12-27-2005, 07:18 PM http://www.scionlife.com/gallery/personal/15183_3.jpg
hey does that in-dash in the front actually fit and doesnt hit the cover piece??....cause if it does i rather have that than a tv screen.....
Stu_Gotti 12-27-2005, 07:26 PM I am hoping to get my Alpine installed soon.. damn installation sucks :)
chrisonfiya 12-28-2005, 12:41 AM will an in-dash dvd player fit in the console and not hit the top cover lid??
jOhNL45b 01-30-2006, 02:56 PM yes but you have to cut into it and custom make it so it woulnt first
Da_Mac 01-30-2006, 03:24 PM Do you have any closer up pics of the flip out H/U?? I would like to see it open and closed (monitor out/monitor in).. I would prolly go that route instead of spending a grand or more o a full screen..
jOhNL45b 01-31-2006, 04:21 AM yea it'll save sum big buck...i dont currently have any with it open and closed but i'll try to remember tommorow and i'll post umm up for you
Revilo 01-31-2006, 04:30 AM so any double din would fit with closed cover?
GammaTNT 02-01-2006, 09:18 AM is it true that they can't play dvd while the car is in drive for safty reason.
krdshrk 02-01-2006, 02:17 PM Not any. The Kenwood DDX models won't fit (meaning the door won't close fully) unless you re-drill the holes on the mounting brackets.
If the HU is wired right, it won't play unless you're parked - there's a parking sensor wire. You can just ground it so it will work but keep in mind that it's illegal.
jOhNL45b 02-01-2006, 02:19 PM yes that is true, BUT there is a wire u can *confuse* not sure the correct way to say it ..to make it so they can play while driving and i changed mine its a yellow wire on mine...but i've watched movies while driving ever since i've had it....well (other people watch) but yea...i think there is one unit out there u cant change some pioneer or sumptin not too sure i forget
