I scratched up my dash putting my seats back in after installing Dynamat. I was just wondering if anyone else has done something stupid like this while doing a relatively easy mod...or am I the only idiot?

Ok here is my stupid story. I was just doing a compound and wax job on my box,due to some scratches. So i was about to compound the door and after it hazed i was wiping it off and realized there was a big rock on the rag i was using and caused more scrathces. Then when i was wiping down the rear bumper i nail my finger on one of the bolts that hold the bumper on, and ripped the tip of my thumb off.. Is that stupid..

How about this ??
I tried to clean the airbag warning stickers off my sun visors with Goof-Off. It wrinkled one of them real bad and it looked worse than when it had the sticker. So I spent the $35 and bought a new sun visor complete with the airbag sticker I tried to remove.

My new visor finally came (complete with new lovely airbag sticker). So I opened up the door and began to install it. Just then I dropped one of the screws out of my hand. And it fell right into that little hole that is in between the rocker panel and front fender. If you open up the door and look in front below the door hinge, you'll see the ONLY little hole there. It was a million in one shot, and the screw went right down that hole. I then had to jack up the car and remove the front wheel and the take off part of the rocker panel and part of the inner fender liner just to reach that %$@#@ screw with a magnet.

So........just to remove a sticker cost me $35, and about an hour and a half of time. Needless to say, I felt like an idiot !!

Ok, here's my idiotic story on what i did to my poor baby.....

I was waxing my car for the first time and i was going around making sure i buffed out all the wax. Next, i need to get the wax between the fender lines and little area that wax was still in. But, since we have nothing that can reach the wax to clean it out, i decided to use a box cutter wrapped in paper towels (several Layers). I did the driver side, and back end.........everything went well. Until i did the passenger fron fender when the box cutter cut through the paper towels and left a nice Gouge 2 inches long..............F_ck!

Dave: I agree.

I melted a tail light in the oven. The first one had been a little harder than usual to open, so I popped the second one in a little longer and a little hotter. It was all wavy when I took it out.

there's this little clip thing by the triangle cutout where the mirror attaches, above the inside dooor panel.

The little screw wouldn't come out, so I just pulled the rest of the panel off, and it exploded past my ear into Never Find It Land.

I also got insulation stuck between my new speaker and grille, which looks funny.

My shift knob's on crooked.

Uh... that's it.

I was going to wax the xB and didn't want to start it up to back up 10' out of the garage, so I got in the drivers seat and pushed it back with one foot out the door. Unfortunately, I didn't get the drivers side door closed enough before it ran into a wooden shelf. Fortunately, only took off 1/2"square on the black tape right above the window sill. Didn't bend door, was lucky. It will not happen again.

I cracked my gas gauge needle when I was modding my speedo to blue. I was able to get Krazy glue to hold it together, but not well enough to zero out the gauge completely so when I get to the top of the E line, I'm done... Also managed to get a finger print or two in the krazyglue so it looks like CSI did a number on my fuel gauge. Of course, Toyota doesn't sell the needles separately, I'd have to buy the whole instrument cluster... (cluster is a good word for it) The worst part is now the sharpie wore off so my speedo's back to white but the needle's still jacked up!

everybody's done something dumb! if they say they havent it just means there too embarassed to say what it is! ive done my share just not yet with the tC!

Just last night i was wrestling with my fiance and well to make the story short, her "horseshoe" belly ring caught in my nostril and wripped the end of my nose! it blead quite a bit, about a 1/4 deep cut, very wierd, but it still looks much better than michael jacksons!

i ended up making a wrong turn, so i decided to pull off on a side street and do a quick U-turn. this was only a 2 lane ( one each way) residential road thru some neighborhood. i hadn't had the xb very long, but i thought it could pull the U-tun in the tight spot. as i start the maneuver i see a car coming up on me, so i go ahead and give her a little gas so i get out of the way. needless to say i didnt make the Turn and scraped up the curb into somones front yard and some conviently placed bolders in their yard scrached my bumper all up....

I got bored one night around 4am and decided to take apart the entire car as much as I could, removing all 4 door panels, half the front end, half the back end, removing parts of the dashboard and entire center console and stereo. I was able to get it all back together fine, but the reason it was stupid was because I had no clue what I was doing and was "hoping" I would be able to put it all back together. I did manage to get a really nasty cut on my hand when removing the front passenger side door panel though, that was pretty dumb.

**went out to a buffet with my girls and stuffed ourselves to the point of no movement...but we at least made it to the closest car in the parking lot: my car...it was cold outside and we were still trying to decide what was going down that night so i turn the heater full blast....when my xB was all warm and toasty we got comfortable, took off our jackets, gloves, hats and even took off our shoes. i didnt want the air blowing in my face anymore, so i changed it full blast to our feet.....hehehe....the air quality went from zero to STANK in 2.5 seconds...and even IIIII (the culprit) thought it was sooo bad i had to lean out my window for air and put my shoes back on...hehe...thats bad when u think ur own funk is bad..our food stayed down though--and so did our windows ......needless to say we headed to the mall several days later and i replaced my 6yr old pair of shoes with a new pair of pink phats and silver adidas...ok, not "replace"...i really love them...i still have them *blush*

went to take out the trash and im kinda short so i used both hands to toss that trash in the dumpster.......yepppppp my keys went flying with it...evrything on my keychain, car, apt, my friends spare keys...mustve been like 10 pm and i was going on a date that i totally didnt want to miss so i was just like "i'll call the maintenance guy tomorrow morning..." well tomorrow morn came and i was late for work so i had to call him that afternoon....well they'd compressed the trash by then and there was no way of getting it out------so bye bye keys.

i did it again a couple months later.....soooooo, if you guys find an xB keyless entry and actual engine key on a silver doubled headed Scion keychain (that NOBODY has anymore--except maybe a few of you)---pls gimme it.

you do not know how many times i burst out laughing reading these stories, especially the foot odor kid!! hahahaahahahaha

I spent an hour and a halp trying to install tailights on my box and couldn't figure out why the stock ones wouldn't come out of the tailight area. An hour later, I sit on the bumper pondering and the lights fall out onto my lap. I'm such a retard!!

Like redneck 69, I put my lowering springs on the front, got them done, then went to the rear and saw the bump stops sitting on the table. Had to completely start over on the fronts, both of them.

Max
04-12-2005, 02:34 AM
Also, on the spring replacement, I used a floor jack to jack the car up, then jack stands at all four wheels. When I went to lower the car back down, I did not account for the lower springs and let the car back down onto the floor jack. Well I actually caught the mistake in time to keep from bending or breaking the ground effects. Jacked the car back up and put some 2x4s under the tire, really, really close to disaster.

did the same thing with my springs, wow i am accident prone. i used a swing arm lift for my install. when i went to set it back on the ground the lift wouldnt go down far enough, so my xb just sat on the lift instead of the ground.. i had to push the car to the side and swing the arms out, then push it the other way and get the other arms out.

Yup, I did that yesterday installing speakers. According to law, the little rivet stopped directly centered beneath the car.

I once threw my cell phone (stupid nextel) in disgust and broke my windshield on my old Dodge Stratus. Cost me 250 to get it fixed and i traded the dumb thing in 2 weeks later for my box. And now I don't throw my phone anymore.

Tried to remove the Dealer Sticker on the rear, had the tips from SCIONLIFE on doing it (using a blower, fish line,etc)..So I tried to pry off the thing with a thin screwdriver wrapped in a thin cloth..it came off alright, in pieces and NICE SCRATCHES !...tried to remove scratches, made it worse...Now I need a paint job!...

Well here is a tip from a veteran of stupid things ... First, don't ever try and remove the cloth insert from your door panels. The entire interior of my box is painted, except the dash, did it right, looks great, so I thought I would do my inserts since I've done it before on other vehicles. Well let me tell you, the cloth comes off easy enough, but the foam, that is an ancient chinese secret, that ____ is fused to the plastic. Having access to a shop I tried everything ... solvents, acids, gas, laquer thinner, paint remover, A GRINDER !!, nothing got that foam off. Ended up having to buy leather and doing all the door panels cuz dumb ___ me removed the material from all the doors first, instead of one at a time.

Second dumb story .. involved my beetle ..

As you may know removing the intakes from a beetle engine is a bit tricky, one bad move and a bolt slides right down into the engine. Well, this time I thought I would be real careful, use magnetic sockets, etc ... I got three of the four bolts out, put them down, removed the fourth, cleared the engine, felt great, got about 15 feet away from the car, slipped in some oil, threw my hands back and swoosh .. bolt right into the engine from 15 feet away .. Mind you this hole is less than 20mm wide and I made it from 15 feet without seeing the target .. The NBA aint got nothin on me !!!

Here is my bonehead mod gone wrong !

Mesh grille on a xB, not bad if you are on a budget. The End result although it doesn't look too bad I don't like it's not the look I thought I was gonna get.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v629/blue05xb/GrilleDamage003.jpg

Taking it way to far --- Don't try to put mesh were it doesnt belong or in this case fit ! Had to sand it down a little was actually a little worse.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v629/blue05xb/GrilleDamage008.jpg

Snow shovel incident - pay attention to where you throw the snow as to not hit ur car with the shovel :tap:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v629/blue05xb/GrilleDamage007.jpg

& yes I did get some paint on the rotor :loser:

End result, I was just plain stupid ! I now must pay $275.00 for paint & bodywork & I will now do it right & purchase the 3pc. billet grilles probably about $250.00. This lesson will only cost me $525.00 & the loss of my xB for 2days.

Friends don't let friends drink & mod + shovel snow !

Oh yeah, I mounted a tweeter in front of where my glovebox opens without realizing it, then went to the dealer to get an alignment and oil change for free. "Where's your service manual?" "oh, it's right... *thudthudthud*... in the glovebox which I can't open."

They did it all for free without questions though :)

I think I need to post that pic of the nasty key scratch someone did to my car. I will make everyone cry.

And now just today, I scrapped my bottom bumper. Not paying attention, and realizing how difficult it is to see the front of the car, I went too far and let the front hit the side walk curb.. .ARGHHHH!!!

I screamed at my wife one night cuz i thought she was going to do this. The parking stalls angle into the curb, I was on the passenger side, one of the rare times I'm not driving. I said "Stop.... STOP" Got out, she was still about a foot away... had to apologize profusely... BUT the next time she drove, she parked it on top of the lip, right on the parking block. I had to stare at it all thru dinner wondering if it was going to slide off the block OK. She walked home with the kids, we were just a few blocks away. I think she was afraid that if we loaded it up it would grab. I told her if she messes it up, I'm buying a lip kit. I think that was probably the last time she's driven the Box...

after leaving the clubS saw a lot of cops on the road..., finally got pulled over for 50 in a 35 (N Tryon)...got a ticket......was on the phone with my boys who were all coming down that night too to hang with my girls and i at my place ---not even a mile down the road, cop was coming from the opposite way---didnt pay attn and almost ran through a red light but my friend shouted so i slammed the breaks really hard and was about a quarter way into the intersection....didnt get pulled....met up with the guys and drove around to grab some latenight food and had to slow it down several times again...i shouldve just been super careful to start off with after we saw the first few cop cars....most idiotic part was that i knew the police station was right there and thats where i got caught for speeding....right after i zoomed by the station......

I couldnt afford an audioforms enlosure, so I cut a hole in the panel and dropped an old 10" sub in there sounded like crap then I bought a nice sub that works in free air. sounds better but I still need to get an enclosure.
Iv'e sone so many stupid things I can hardly remember most of them, I left a brand new gleaming shiny diamond plate aluminum toolbox full of expensive drawing supplies in my crx parked in harlem. my window was broken within 3 hours.
also my girl was trying to stop me from leaving her house so she jumped in the crx and stalled the engine, then she started laughing (because she was nervous) so i got ____ed and jumped on my own car and punched the windshield in.
