View Full Version : 17s or 18s??
peppy 02-16-2004, 10:26 PM i can't decide if i should do 17s or 18s?? i got tanabe df210 springs on the car and i love the look of 18s but 18s make the car higher off the ground which i don;t like, but i want the car too look good, can you still be a baller with 17s? :)
scionracerxb 02-16-2004, 11:05 PM get as big as you can get!!
EL_PAALO 02-17-2004, 01:47 AM but 18s make the car higher off the ground which i don;t like
No they don't. A 215/35 18 is a smaller overall diameter than stock.
Munch 02-17-2004, 01:47 AM I have the same springs. I'm going with a 18x8 with a +30 offset.

Thats what I am runnin, the 215/35/18 on velox rims and they feel great. I have been to vegas twice and to el toro! :D Look and feel great! with eibach springs I don't worry too much about scraping.
Aggin_Motorsports 02-17-2004, 04:12 PM Go with the 18's. bigger is better!
hnefrdo 02-17-2004, 04:36 PM smaller is better. go with 16's. if that's not an option for you, go with 17's for looks. im finding 16's to be a nice compromise between looks, performance and comfort.

I used to have 16s on my last car and kept rolling up on guys with 18 and 19s and then the little green monster was kicking me in the head. Should have got 18s!!! Now I am on 18s and the monster gets chicks numbers from the passenger side!!
Burn0ut 02-17-2004, 06:04 PM It depends what you want it for. If you want your xb to be fast don't get heavy 18s. I mean if you can afford light 18s (I.E.- Volk te37s or RH rp035s) then 18s would be great for performance and looks. If not, lots of companys make affordable (er...sort of) light 17s. Heavy rims make a huge difference in performance....you'd be suprised. If you want to be all show...then get some 19s...it'll be bad ___...
peppy 02-17-2004, 08:27 PM i don;t care about performance i want it to look good and ride nice, i'd like to go 17s but i want it to look baller :) and when i see 17s i think, they really wanted 18s but couldn't afford them, maybe that's just me?? i'll probably do 18s

I could afford 20s
yet I ride on 15s
and I race my car competitively
there, now ask yourself if you want to burn your money and pay for 18 inch wheels and tires.
16 or 17s plz =)
Burn0ut 02-17-2004, 08:45 PM if you don't care about performace, get 18s, 19s, or 20s.
peppy 02-17-2004, 09:17 PM well 20s are not an option casue i think they look like ___ on a scion and 19s are also too big, i think 18s look perfect but the only reason i would go 17s is for a lower stance and better ride

I think you just answered your own question. Get the 17's :D .
hnefrdo 02-17-2004, 09:25 PM looks like we've come to a conclusion here. get big wheels (17"-19") if performance is not an issue; they look cooler. get smaller wheels (15"-16") if better ride comfort and higher performance is desired. agreed?
i would still get 16's for my xa. it's not the size of the boat, but the motion of the ocean. heheh. jk.
Burn0ut 02-17-2004, 09:36 PM IMO 17s are a good blend of performance and looks for most cars. If you get light wheels that is. THe tires on the 17s will have a smaller wall thus the buckling and bending would be less likely. Light 17s such as te-37s are light enough for most cars push without a problem. I like personally like the balance between performance and style that the light 17s offer, especially because the xb (nor the xa) is a super racer....just my two cents.
peppy 02-17-2004, 09:44 PM i still can't decide, the main reason i don't want 17s is b/c i don;t want it to look like a couldn't afford 18s :) yes i know it's dumb but that's the impression they give me, i need to test fit some 17s to see how they look
ncscion 02-18-2004, 03:49 AM that was the way i felt but i think if you get the right drop and the right rim it will look like a 18" and you can get a cheaper 17". example go with a wheel that doesn't have a lip. i know lips are cool but to me they make the rim look smaller. my problem is i want 17" but want it to look like i have 18's or 19's. i think i can pull this off with the right wheel+tire+drop combo. just my 2 cents.
westsype 02-18-2004, 05:07 AM If you get some 17" volks or works rims, those will cost same or even more then some cheap a$$ knock off 18" or 19" rims. And you will still be a baller cuz you got some volks or works. NAH MEAN! Just like it doesn't matter which jordans you have on your feet there jordans and they cost more then those payless!

yu factored in performance and style, which is good. but, yu forgot to factor in price. forged rims, liek the TE37 yu mention, are not cheap to buy. :?
BoomBox757 02-19-2004, 10:40 PM I think I 'm going to get 19" Koing Blatants in silver with a 2" drop  if I can save up the money

sorry but i don;t think that looks good :( 19s are the biggest i'd go
Kendo 02-20-2004, 12:56 AM I'm running 17×7.5 with a 35 offset and I'm perfectly happy. The front wheels are pretty much flush with the fender and the rears are pushed out more than the stock wheels, plus with the 40 series tires I don't have to worry about "taco-ing" my rim all the time on these wonderfully kept Los Angeles streets of ours...

Personally, I think that 19s still look like bottle caps on the xB, but maybe thats just me?
